Relevant in what way? Just because he didnt do any new projects doesnt make him less interesting as a comedian and person.
LOL

You question his irrelevance. And now you question his relevance. Okay.

Look, I wish him the best. I enjoyed his shtick 12+ years ago. If I go back and watch it now though, not so much. If he improves on his shtick this could be an interesting project. I'll definitely follow it somewhat.

Borat and Ali G are still brilliant man. Id advise you to rewatch some Borat interviews he did in the USA. My question wasnt about relevance, you brought that up.

I seriously don't understand how the fact that his stuff hasn't been in the spotlight much a negative thing. Just because he isn't as popular or 'relevant' like you say, doesnt make his new show potentially any worse or better just because he's not as relevant.

Also in the highest times of his popularity, people saw through his characters. He is all about method acting in such a way that popularity and fame would only be a negative for him.

So yeah your story about relevance doesnt really mean anything.

The dude's a madman, I'll watch anything he does.

Brothers Grimsby has recently entered my "so stupid it's actually amazing" tier of movies, it's worth watching alone just to see Donald Trump swallow aids blood. (yes this is a thing that happens)

Yeah, and? Who gives a fuck what they think about it? Not that what you're saying is true to begin with, though
Okay, so, first off - the hell is your problem? What are you so mad about? How about you actually engage with what I'm saying instead of telling me "ur wrong lol" and then peacing out? Or would you have to admit you don't actually have an argument then?

Second - I see no issue in criticizing social commentary that makes no attempt at making any social change. We should probably care what they think because they're the people in power, and making fun of someone's grammar while they're hauling you off to the camps is unfunny AND useless. The current far-right fascists of the US have built an empire off of being entirely shameless. Yet another show poking fun at them for being buffoons means literally nothing to them.

That video of Trump mentioning Sasha Baron Cohen is real or is it doctored?

If true just how many celebrities has this orange fuckwad picked fights with!?

Cautiously optimistic. Da Ali G Show is one of my favorite television series ever. Borat and Bruno were both really damn good.

The Dictator flopped? What the fuck? One of the funniest films I've ever seen. As good as his other work. That said this guy's a fucking hero so I'll be watching the hell out of this. One of the best surprises of the week to know he has a new show coming as quick as Sunday. I like him because has has the bravery and balls to do what no one else would do. That and he's beyond hilarious.

EDIT: Just checked and The Dictator made 180 million on a 65 million budget. So a modest success. But it didn't flop.

I got no problem? I have no idea what you're even talking about here.

So what are you suggesting then? That this highbrow satire should be changing the minds of these fascists? Because that's not going to happen. You, yourself, said they don't care. That stuff isn't for them because they don't care. The only things comedians and satirists can do is point out these things to people who do care, giving it some kind of palable edge with comedy. Which is happening a lot in American comedy right now, probably more than it has at any one point in time really. If you're takeaway from a lot of that is just them correcting grammar (whatever that refers to), you clearly haven't been paying much attention

I enjoyed it too. But it didn't have the same spark as Borat or even some Ali G interviews where the comedy came from putting real people in awkward situations

It was more in line with the Ali G movie, mostly canned and scripted so it didn't have the same comedy effects

Yeah I see where you're coming from. It wasn't as explosively hilarious "grab your side because you're laughing so much" as his other work like Borat but at heart it was still good and the concept was quite clever. That said this new show sounds exactly like what you're talking about and love from him so this should hopefully be as good as his best stuff.

I mostly don't enjoy that style of pranking/deceiving people humor anymore, but if the targets are people who deserve it I could get behind it.

Also I've actually never seen Ali G.

It'll be interesting to see if his style of comedy holds up...

Also, this show would have to do something impressive to be "dangerous"

That trailer looks dope, I'm in

How is this just a warning
People get banned so much I'm surprised there ARE warnings tho lol

I assume they've ALL been warned before and ignore it

Can't wait for this. Need Trump to get ACTUALLY pissed off again, and sounds like he gives a shit about Cohen making him look dumb

I'm wondering if he is also impersonating a Russian to get Republicans who have been compromised by the Kremlin to slip up? He definitely is putting on an accent in the Cheney clip.

Distinguishing between "high-brow" and "low-brow" is a fool's errand.

You're continually relying on the force of moderates in a country that is growing, for better or for worse, increasingly divided. This isn't an entirely unsound method, but it's growing less and less efficient every day, and here's the problem with the fact that Trump and the GOP have no shame - people like that. The right has successfully convinced the public that having no sense of decency whatsoever is just a lack of "political correctness" and is in fact, somehow, rebellious. Repeatedly pointing out that these people are acting like assholes does nothing to a public that generally already approves of that.

Cohen's work isn't entirely useless - comedy is an important tool in convincing the youth vote, which every day is worryingly trending more and more towards the right - but the point I was making in that post is that there are reasons to be skeptical to an approach that depends on a group of clowns to have decorum.

Your response was to ask me "who gives a fuck," claim that I was wrong with no counter-argument, and then insist that you weren't mad despite that.

I never said "who gives a fuck," I said who gives a fuck about what those people who are the target of satire what they think about said satire. No one is mad. Just because someone disagrees with your opinion, based on nothing since you gave no examples to begin with, is not someone being "mad."

^ Oh my god, if the show is going to be him as some crazy truther style, right-wing guy, this could be super hilarious. That website and name alone, TRUTHBRARY is already pretty great.

Asked this in another thread but will ask here as well:

What's the best way to watch this if you don't have a Showtime subscription?
