I didn't remember that. Because it seems like they fully hide it. And she acts like it's her baby when she knows it's in no way her baby.
It was in the middle of last season, so it's understandable to not remember it. Haha. Serena was there to oversee them having sex the first time in Nick's house (I'm not sure what to label this as--it's a house, right?). From there, they started having a relationship. Yeah, she's delusional, so of course she'd act like it's hers despite everything.

edit - I can't remember if Serena or June explicitly told Fred that the father was Nick...certainly they did throw it at him that it wasn't his child, though. Even if they weren't explicit, though, he can probably put two and two together about who the real father is, given that he knows Serena was in on it and the opportunities available.

Serena told him in his office, she flatly states the baby isn't even his because god didn't deem him worthy and that's why he has never been able to have one

Just watched Episode 9.

w8fIA.gif

My eyes started to water pretty early on and I eventually lost it and sobbed when they were singing America the Beautiful. Fuck me.

Also is it just me or is Nick's actor serviceable at best? Normally wouldn't complain but he's surrounded by A+ acting all the time and it just sticks out.

He is not good and they seem to deliberately not give him much in the way of challenging material.

Just watched Ep 10, done for tonight despite the cliffhanger. I'm such a damn sap. Was crying so hard during the reunion. This show has me by the balls.

Honestly, I think I would be ok if they recast Nick for Season 3. Max Minghella is just awful and it gets more and more apparent with each passing scene. When literally EVERY other main/recurring role (more than just a couple episodes) has A+ casting, it's just stupid to have him on the show.

Wow she spends seven hours preparing a little bag, looking around the house, changing her clothes, listening to music, etc and she's surprised they get to her before she leaves?

This show got so fucking boring

The fact that she did NO damage to an old wooden slat garage door was the dumbest fucking thing ever.

Holy lord that episode was a nightmare. Definitely done after this season. @ me when season five ends and plot has finally occurred and I'll start again.

I figured it was part of the direction for nick and Fred to be so stilted and wooden. Every guy that's part of Gilead is that way. Though Bradley Whitford out acted both of them in just a couple of scenes last episode. Fiennes was OK in that scene where he had it out with Serena joy in fairness.

Nah, I think Fred's acting is pretty good. He shows nuance. Nick... doesn't.

I like how people say "this show won't make any forward progress" when only 22 episode total have ever aired.

The evil people running Gilead don't seem too keen on using technology. Why are there no surveillance cameras?

Yeah I was going to mention this earlier but it's so potentially spoiler heavy I held off. Basically at the end of the book, in the epilogue (warning: potentially major entire series-ruining spoilers):

It's heavily implied Offred never escapes. It's also confirmed Gilead eventually falls. What season 1 didn't cover was the epilogue at the end of the book where people in the future are listening to June's secret tapes she recorded during her time in Gilead (that's what June's introspective voice over is supposed to be, June recording the tapes) and it's inferred she never escapes because the only record of her is from Gilead i.e. nothing from her time in Canada or any record of her beyond her being a Handmaid in Gilead. She's supposed to be this cautionary and inspiring story that has long lasting impact post-Gilead decades after it has fallen and her tapes become famous evidence that influences future humanity for generations. So it really depends here how close they adhere to the book moving forward.

The show stopped following the book at the end of season 1 - but if they stick to the message of the book, and they might with Atwood on the story team, June's never going to escape.
It'll be very interesting to see whether they adhere to, or diverge from the book. One of the best produced shows on television right now IMO. Will be tuning in for as long as it airs.

So yeah, probably the most eventful in terms of holy shit moments, but the internal logic of this show is just crazy. One moment people are hanging from walls and being stoned to death and the next they're welcoming them back with open arms. One moment no one can sneeze without being beaten half to death by a guard, and the next people are sneaking around Gilead like they're playing hide and seek. They really need a central character to "rule" Gilead. The show also needs to establish more consistent boundaries on what the female characters can and can'[t get away with. You'd think their government had just been overthrown and it was a free-for-all with how everyone was acting in this episode.

Also, my goodness.

June, you can more effectively search for your daughter, help the other handmaidens, or any other task you choose by leaving this place. Unless you're going right now to where Hannah is, she's not in any more danger now if you leave.

It's finally done? Is this season worth it? As in, I know the performances and such are good, but does it spin its wheels too much? Feel like I've seen a lot of complaining regarding this.

The finale is 100% one stupid decision after another fuckery. It's like they wanted to have a bunch of crazy things happen without actually having anything happen.

If I wrote the finale

Hey Serena Joy, since you're the only one who knows where my daughter is and probably are privy to your insane husband's plans, why don't you come with us and help us liberate the entire country? Yeah let's go right now, we'll stop and pick up Hannah, and ride for Canada. You can also provide a temporary cover story until your husband wises up and puts everyone on the lookout for us. Otherwise he's going to hang you probably, or maybe just cut off another finger. Let's get in the car.

Uh, how do you figure?

She can be far more effective working from within. Working with the dad from Get Out.

She has sacrificed her life for the cause. It's why the Martha's don't leave. Noticed she tucked the picture into the swaddle.

If June escapes to Canada, there is no show. I hope season 3 shows June navigating her way through the ranks of the resistance, much as I hope that next season will explore Serena figuring out how to negotiate her way through Gilead's twisted infrastructure.
