I wonder if there's anybody still doing roster updates for the freeware Eastside Hockey Manager. I had a lot of fun with that game back in the day.

Leaf fans are weirdly obsessed with Islander fans after signing Tavares.

Toronto, after earning top spot in the Atlantic, goes home in the first round after losing to a wild card team from the Metro: the red-hot New York Islanders.

He is an offensive defender who was nearly PPG. He still had a few minor issues defensively that he could work on, as well as trying to get more points at the NCAA level.

I'd say let him head back to Michigan, play with his brother, and hopefully lead them to a National Championship (or close to it?). When that season is over, regardless of whether or not they make the playoffs, then he can sign and finish the Vancouver season. They'll be meaningless games at that point, but he'll still be hungry to finish the season strong as a pro.

But he probably is good enough to play in the AHL as well, so idk.
His "few minor issues" are things he can work on at the NHL level, to be fair. The question would be more around whether he can handle an 82-game schedule and going back to college isn't going to help that much.

I'm not too fussed if he stays in Michigan for another year. I was more joking as the coach is no doubt just trying to hold on to an asset that can help him win a championship. I just don't think there's much advantage, if any, for his development.

Lol EA gives up in like January, gotta pony up if you wanna play with Tavares as a Leaf

I just edit the rosters frequently all the time in NHL games. I also make like the Top 5 Draft picks in create a player or college players/KHL Players that aren't in EA's system

It really sucks we don't have KHL in the EA NHL games, was the KHL ever in any of the 2K or EA Hockey games? I can't remember.

Yeah...

Other teams, like the Blackhawks, got to have a fun ride. It's been hard being a Leafs fan since the mid nineties.

It couldn't have been that hard at the time because I can remember quite a few times the Leafs were "Stanley Cup hopefuls" after they signed big name players. Both from fans and media.

Of course this time feels different now because Tavares isn't over the hill, but the hope was still there among most Leafs fans at times throughout the 90s and 2000s.

We're not obsessed. We're simply forcefed a steady diet of Leafs propaganda all year and it's especially bad right now with the constant circle-jerk that TSN, Sportsnet and CBC are doing with the Tavares signing. It's gotten even worse now with social media magnifying each and every detail. It was the same when Babcock signed too. They had people preparing a welcome fit for the Prime Minister as soon as he stepped out of the plane.

The rest of Canada simply can't escape the Leafs. I've been sick of them since the 90's but they've also done nothing of merit to warrant such coverage.

Like... Hell, the Habs are just as historic a franchise but I don't see a fraction of the reporting on them vs what the Leafs get. At Least the Habs have had a measure of sucess in the past few decades.

I'm mostly glad that at least we have our local team here who have finally begun to bear fruit in terms of success. It helps drown out the incessant noise from the east.

Mid-nineties?! You weren't born during the Ballard years were you?
Edit: or watch hockey

I don't think so. I probably became a true fan in 95 or thereabouts.

It couldn't have been that hard at the time because I can remember quite a few times the Leafs were "Stanley Cup hopefuls" after they signed big name players. Both from fans and media.

There was some hope and there were some good years, but they were few and it's been a rollercoaster of emotion and poor management. Even then, certain deals didn't go through because of ownership. Deals that likely would've made the team more of a contender.

Sundin carried the team at times.

You clearly dont remember the Blackhawks in the late 90s and early 00s

I do. You know how it feels. I'm just saying that it's frustrating seeing us get shit for being excited when teams like the Blackhawks have had great success and I was happy for them. Now it's hopefully our time like they had theirs.

I remember very well the Blackhawks' bad years, and I sympathize. They've won three Cups since though. We haven't seen one, many of us, at all. The Leafs haven't won in 51 years.

Bell and Rogers co-own the Leafs and Toronto is the largest market in Canada by a significant margin. Why wouldn't they cover them more than other teams?

I'm not saying that I don't sympathize. I may come off more crazed and celebratory than I am in real life here, but a lot of the time I post in fun and in jest. I remember when the Canucks got a lot of coverage and I couldn't stand it, so I sort of get how it would feel.

I am in no way saying that people aren't allowed to dislike that. Bell and Rogers do own the team, though, so that's part of it. What I am saying is that Leafs fans aren't the enemy. We've suffered more than almost any professional sports team's fanbase. Hell, even the Cubs have won.

We may be celebrating and hopeful, but that doesn't mean we're the enemy. Some Leafs fans are annoying idiots, but that's true of any fanbase. We just have more fans, so everything is multiplied.

It's nice to be happy and hopeful now, because it's been rough on me particularly and my mood is so heavily tied to the team. They're one of the only things I have going good in my life. I'd like to see just one Cup.

This article just showed up on my Google news feed. I can't tell if the author is being serious or facetious:

https://editorinleaf.com/2018/07/11/toronto-maple-leafs-trade-erik-karlsson/

Not only is the entire premise of the article laughable, his proposed trade offer for EK is just plain insulting:

-Garret Sparks
-One of Travis Dermott, Rasmus Sandin or Timothy Liljegren (Senators option)
-First round draft pick (2019)
-First round draft pick (2020)

LeafsERA, you guys need to reign in your delusional journalists.

I wish

I almost posted here, jokingly, asking if Karlsson was a Leaf yet. This was the other day, though, and I didn't because I figured Cake Boss would probably climb through my computer screen and beat the shit out of me.
