There isn't a single moment in any Avengers movie where I've said to myself, wow that's a character I'd like to see in a full length movie. They have to sell this shit to me.

It's a prequel set before Avengers 1?

I'm interested. Although, it's odd how the two female-led MCU films are set in the past.
EDIT: I see I'm not the first one to notice that.

For the "I don't want this" crowd: For each one of you that don't, there're 1000 women of all ages, including many who have grown up on the MCU, that do.

I have hard time believing that the entire film will be a prequel, especially with Winter Soldier being involved. It makes more sense for a plot like that to tie to the present. It would feel weird to me if there is a prequel story that shows us they had some sort of a relationship without actually seeing the relationship now in some form.

Another option: Marvel has locked down Scarlet and Sebastian for a multi-film deal. Captain America 4 will follow the Black Widow film and feature Bucky in the Cap role, showing us a relationship similar to that of what we got in the comics. The Black Widow film will help set up the context for that.

Also, Scarlet is awesome as Widow. Don't @ me.

I wanted to see that Black Panther guy, but apparently he had already gotten a movie

I don't see the point of this, but I'm sure it'll be good. All marvel movies are. I'll check it out on digital probably

Just make it like that JLaw Russian spy movie but actually good and you nailed it. Or female Bourne.
No, don't make it anything like that JLaw film.

Besides the ballet school and her working as a spy, there wasn't anything about the film that should be emulated. She wasn't even an action spy, just a seductress.

Will that be like, the third MCU movie where females aren't just underwritten love interests? Wow. Marvel is on a roll lately.

Hope it's more of a break from the usual Marvel movies. I would love if they tried to make something more niche and subversive, since she's the last of the original Avengers to get a film (poor Hawkeye and Hulkfallo).

That happened a long time ago. Stan is on a nine-picture deal and iirc Scarlett's on an eight-film deal, which this movie would then be the end of. Unless she has reupped again since.

Maybe this will explain what happened in São Paulo, the hospital fire and Dreykov's daughter.

I think they should try to keep this a lower budget affair (as far a Marvel Studios film goes).
This feels like a what...80 mil kinda project? Since it's a prequel I would imagine it could really deal with anything. Probably not very many superpowers on display, maybe some globetrotting spy stuff. Dosen't strike me as all that expensive of a movie.

I can see it being around $100m, which is about the same as what Logan was (and what Solo should have been). Scarlet is a big star and will be getting a very nice paycheck. And Winter Soldier should lend to some more expensive-looking fights.

I truly don't believe this will 100% be a prequel though. And if it is, I think it leads into a Bucky as Cap/Natasha CA4.

Yeah that seems like a modest enough budget for this. It would be interesting to see how it would tie into modern day events. I don't think we are going to hear much about those kinda details for awhile. Outside of a leak that is, ha.

As others have mentioned, its placement in the timeline does raise some questions as to if Black Widow survives the events of Avengers 4, but perhaps I'm over-thinking it.

Sounds interesting but I reeeeaally hope they don't milk the whole prequel idea to death. A few standalones here and there are cool but I think people are invested in the MCU timeline and want to see how it progresses.*

*Speculation
A4 is likely going to fuck with the timeline anyway though and Feige has made a point to let everyone know that future stories won't be so linear to it. What I do wonder about is if this is their work around for potential A4 deaths? Chris Evans said it's better to get off the ride when you want to instead of being thrown off so while he might die in 4, they could always do a film set between CW and IW later if he wants to do another one. This makes me wonder if BW and Hawkeye are going down in 4.

She and Banner are probably retiring and adopt kids while in space.

She had a whole thing in Age of Ultron? She's got plenty of personality!

You mean where she had a totally unconvincing romance with Bruce Banner that came almost completely out of nowhere?

Or the part where she gets kidnapped by Ultron, a subplot which has absolutely no bearing on anything or anyone in the film?

Out of all the significant MCU characters Black Widow and Hawkeye are by far the least compelling. Hopefully they'd do something completely different than the rest of the Marvel movies to make it interesting. Maybe make a Bond type movie.

I still feel like this is a waste of time. I'd rather have a solo movie about anything else really...she-hulk for example.

They had interactions in the original Avengers, and they built it up in Age of Ultron. It was also three years after of the Avengers and things can happen on screen. It's fine.

And maybe your right about the kidnapping, but oh well.
