Haha, don't feel pressured to listen to everyone's opinion!
Ladies, what's your opinion on The Witcher 3? I've been thinking about borrowing it from my brother, and I'm trying to set my expectations. I'm not a big Tolkien-style fantasy person (so like, Skyrim style), but that doesn't seem to be an issue for this game. I've heard that the combat is mediocre, which is fine unless I have to also fiddle with a million systems in order to deal with it. I'm more interested in the story and characters since I've heard good things. Opinions?
I've played through the game a few times and can honestly say it's one of the best RPGs in recent history.
Geralt is boring, but the people around him are interesting. The story develops in ways you may not expect depending on your choices. You may want to read the wiki on the events of the first two games and the books to catch up, and to get to know the cast of characters. It's not hard to pick up on who everyone is, the structure of the world, or why things happen the way they do, but a lot of the previous games and source material is referenced throughout the story. The side quests also reap valuable benefits, and some even impact how your playthrough unfolds.
Combat isn't too complex, but I like that. It feels very much like Dark Souls lite. You have "signs" aka magic, fast attacks, a crossbow, heavy attacks, parries, dodges, etc. it's not hard to pick up.
The game is gorgeous, too, so there's that.
