Yep, after the Harry Potter announcement they did say that they were going touch on the future of Pokémon Go this week.
I got to play Pokemon GO in San Francisco again for a bit and it made me very spiteful that I didn't get to play the game opening month in a massive city. All the Pokemon Spawns, all the stops, all the lures still in use. So gooood.
Yeah. I' eagerly waiting. It better be a big gen 3 roll-out
Looking at the blog post again it mentions "improvements to certain features", I wouldn't expect much. They did have to pullback an update which was on a new engine version. So they probably had to roll that update and the "improvements" into one update
They did announce that iOS 8 won't be supported after 11/20, so we should know soon.
The announcement will be me finally getting a freaking EX Pass! Everyone and their mother (quite literally lol) are getting passes, but Niantic is still neglecting me for some reason.
I came here to ask if there would be a event for thanksgiving but it seems everyone here is just waiting for a announcement. Looks like I just have to bunker down and be patient like the rest of you guys/gals.

People in my group actually go to Amsterdam by train to do a raid there just to have the possibility to get an ex raid pass. It's insane.

People on the Silph Road Reddit are throwing around a number of 20 million active players. Each player would have to catch 22 Pokémon a day.
As each of the first two goals are met spawns increase and we get double stardust and xp, both of which are big motivators. It should be doable.
If the first goal is met tomorrow afternoon we will be on pace to reach 3 billion.
It's either already active or will be active around 3pm Eastern.
It is also ironic, but we have to hope the bots are doing their job.
Not if they artificially inflated the active player count used to determine the targets for this event. Do scanner accounts have to actually catch Pokemon to gather all information about them? If not, they are dead weight in terms of meeting the event goals.
The scanner bot accounts have to get to level 30 in order to report a consistent CP of a Pokémon. Pre level 30 CP would be all over the place.

You asked if bot accounts have to catch Pokémon. I answered yes and gave the reason why.
Because accounts from level 30 and above see the exact same wild Pokémon (IVs and CP included). So in order for a bot account to report accurate IVs and CP, it should reach at least level 30.
Scanner accounts have to get to level 30 to accurately show cp and IV bc those values are random for every account under level 30.. So they have to catch to get to 30.
Last time I asked my discord guy he said he had around 30k accounts going with more in reserve.
The point I was getting at was that level of account is a non-factor in terms of this event. I legitimately did not know if catching Pokemon was required to scan IVs (there are at least three times the server can transfer information to the client about a wild Pokemon, and I don't know on which transfer the client finds out the full statistics). However, the largest local scanning community here actually killed their IV scanning because their bot accounts kept getting banned, so I guess it's a net negative if we're relying on the scanner community to do the work for us if this is a common decision.
That logic makes sense. I just hate the regional situation in general.

But, I'm happy to be a participant again; I managed to get a shiny Duskull right near the end of the Halloween event so that was totally awesome. My first shiny in Go!

Same, plus I have a ton of cleaning to do at the house because of relatives coming. I'm basically only going to be able to catch what shows up while I'm sitting at my office (which is not a lot, like 1-2 an hour at most).
You know what would be great?
If they actually, you know, put anything in the game at all that actually told people there's an event going on. There was no push notification and the news button still pulls up the Alola outfits ad. The player population that reads anything about the game on social media must be a minority.

And hopefully double increased spawns kick things into high gear. I've caught about 90 Pokémon so far. I need double xp to kick in so I can make some room.
