Well finally finished the game so I will post some of my impressions, this definitely feels like a step in the right direction, but still there are a lot of problems.

The story - Not good at all, it starts bad, then gets decent in the middle, then gets pretty awful by the end. Bayek is a fine character, probably the best since Ezio, but all the surrounding cast is barely present or notable at best and the big historical characters are completely wasted. This was the game that was supposed to show the origins of the Assassins and unfortunately most of the scenes relating to that fall flat. One in particular
the brotherhood one
. The villains are really weak, the last couple of ones are barely introduced and the ultimate villain is one of the least fleshed out villains in the AC series. Even the twirly mustache dude from Syndicate was better.

The modern day story - Just abysmal, the characters are awful, the voice acting is awful, the writing is awful ("Why so aggro?"), the plotline is awful. I was always the one to defend the need for modern day segments in Assassin's Creed games, but after four games of nothing but disappointment I would be willing to let them just cut it. Either actually commit to this modern day stuff or don't do it at all.

The sidequests - Probably one of the most improved aspects of the game, this is definitely where the influence of the Witcher can be felt the most and it is cool that there is more story and more connected sidequests than before, however, this is where the fact that Assassin's Creed is now a weird hybrid of Action RPG hurts the most. The sidequest objectives are incredibly repetitive, the amount of follow/escort missions is crazy. The fact that there are no dialogue options really hurts the game in this area, since every time there might be something unique and interesting that might happen, like say Bayek going to a party it will ultimately be interrupted and you will be sent into a combat scenario, Again.

The world - There is no doubt that the world looks amazing, though the lack of Luxor is a really big shame. However while the game shines on the art side, the rest of the game lacks in history/world lore in almost every facet. The fact that every time you finish a tomb you are rewarded with nothing but "Ancient Tablet, From the Old Kingdom" is crazy. Like come on, at least put a myth from Egypt there or the story of the exploits of the Pharaoh the tomb belonged to. There is also no database at all. Now maybe that is all being saved for the tour mode that will launch next year but it is still really disappointing.

The combat - Definitely better than what we had before, but can still be rather clumsy. Now while the combat can definitely be tightened up there is an aspect of it that I am not sure will fit well with the AC games. This sort of combat relies a lot on preset areas and allowing the enemy full control of its surroundings, however since AC games feature freeclimbing and running this creates a lot of problems that I am not sure can be solved easily. Numerous times I had enemies climb a roof then climb down then climb up again for no reason, they just get confused by the geometry.

The music - It is ok, there are some good tracks, but in a year of amazing OSTs this one is nothing special, the fact that at one point it also references Jespyr Kyd's famous score for Assassin's Creed also unfortunately shows that this OST is still no match for his stuff.

The loot system - strange, very strange. It seems like it is only vital early on, and by the time you hit your stride in the game you will be drowning in various items. The tools are also overpowered so you will rely on your weapons even less than you normally would. It also seems strange that armor/outfit has no impact on your character. There are some cool weapon designs and more variety at least, so I guess ultimately it is a positive in that regard.

Ultimately, I am happy that they definitely tried some new things in this game and most of that stuff is an improvement over the old stuff, however in a year with a game like BOTW which also did something similar it just doesn't seem quite enough. Hopefully they finally nail it in the next game and for the love of god get some good writers / or let the writers do something with the overall story.

I'm enjoying it for the most part so far, but god the combat feels clunky as hell. I've only been playing for a few hours though, so hoping I get used to it in time

ALSO wow is it just my ears or does the vocal mix sound super muddy and bad? like, the voice acting itself is great, it's just the actual quality of the audio is lacklustre af

I also get the same issue with audio but it seems to be periodic. I've noticed a few occasions where it just sounds awful.

I agree on the combat though, it's just bad, like barebones minimum they could have done. Fighting basically any animal can be easily done with two dodges and a spear lunge looped and humans take little more effort. Its only difficult if the enemy can practically one shot you.

That said I'm enjoying the world which is mostly what I was in it for but I still think the AC2 trilogy had better combat since you had a larger variety of attacks and could counter with anything resulting in hidden blade counters or disarming. I'd be fine with losing these if combat felt more challenging but it basically swapped from go ham or counter to just go ham.

Final stretch of the game wtf:
Playing as Aya which means you don't have all of your gear. What's the point in doing all of this gear drop stuff if the final conflict is with someone else lol

Was working two hours ago.

e: just tested again. working fine.

PC or console?

Cause I've done two reda missions on pc.

Get them from Reda, do the objective. Go back to Reda, disable internet connection, turn it in, get reward. The mission "completes" and then I enable the internet again and .....nothing happens,t he mission stays complete and that's it.

I've tested it with two types of Reda missions, the one to get materials and one to find a missing worker, neither worked for me.

I must be approaching the very end now - I hope - the quest has the word 'final' in it - and everything is starting to fall apart. Quest bugs, new characters making an appearance that seemingly want me to do their busywork like finding missing tools while Bayek's words speak to doing nothing else but the main mission at hand.

I followed the main objective, which led me to an NPC outside of a tent, which started a cinematic as I approached, but while watching two men converse only one of them had audio for their voice, but lips moving. After this one-sided cinematic I was left there standing next to the previously mute NPC, who now didn't move in any way. Nothing was happening. Wasn't moving his lips, nothing. Just standing there. The two of us locked in silent nothingness. So I pressed circle to skip this non-conversation conversation which led to a pop-up saying I had just failed not one, but two quests and I then had to use the pop-up option to reload the previous quest objectives which reloaded me a little ways away.

I checked the quest log, saw the two quests I had supposedly failed, neither of which were my main mission but in fact some other side mission that required me to complete a separate side mission (???) as part of its objectives, so I re-selected the main quest and saw that my objective was a very long ways away. Wtf?

So I head out and eventually reach the city that is my main quest destination. As I approach the entrance to the city on horseback I see a group of soldiers, also on horseback heading towards me along the road, but no worries, they just ignored me and passed on by. A few moments later I see another group of soldiers on horseback no different than the first -- only these guys immediately aggro for no reason and I had to kill them all.

I barely understand whats going on, and every step I take towards my goal is just causing bugs and seams to show. At this point I just want to power through to the end, put this mess of a story behind me and get back to open world goodness.

Edit: Actually, seeing that the main quest is now two levels beyond me and there are a ton of side quests here, powering through doesn't seem to be in the cards. And considering the bugs I guess I'll just bounce out for now.

Mm, agreed, especially about the combat. I also felt like AC2 trilogy combat was also a loooot more fun and fluid, too

It worked for me (PS4). I did it around 10 times, best part was you didn't even have to repeat the mission, you just straight talk to him and claim the reward.
Yeah, today's mission was good to do the exploit but quest doesn't reappear for me. I think I did something wrong like talking to the guy within seconds of disconnecting.

Didn't work for me on PS4 this morning. Maybe I talked too quickly to Reda or I reconnected to internet too soon. Anyway not a big issue.

I keep getting some minor shadow flickering during cutscenes, very annoying. Is the movement also this slow on purpose or am I missing something? How do you make the horse gallop faster? Isn't there faster sprint for Bayek?

You can get outfits and mounts from the Heka chests but they're pretty rare. I saw a breakdown where someone used a glitch to get a few million drachmas, then bought like 3000 Heka chests and from those got like maybe 20 outfits/mounts.
Thanks for reply. I did Reda cheat maybe 15 times total and so far it's all weapons (purple or yellow). I guess it makes sense that odds would be against us, they want us to spend real money in the store. That won't stop me trying tho :D

Seleucid in the arena is bullshit. Ones you get him to very low health he just spams those firebombs.

Curious if anyone else playing this on Xbox One X is having issues returning from rest mode. 75% of the time the game restarts after returning from rest mode.

Also noticed Dolby Atmos does not turn back on 50% of the time if I go to Home or another app and return to AC.

Is there any reason to keep rare weapons if I already have legendaries of that type? I'm a hoarder in games, but would rather sell them for gold if there isn't any greater purpose to keeping them.

Also, how far in am I?

I'm about to do the crocodile main quest. I assume another tier of targets appears after killing him?

Accidentally turned off HDR in Alexandria and holy crap what a difference it makes when it's on. The lighting looks so natural with HDR enabled.

Game is really dang good by the way, they made some awesome changes for this series and it feels so refreshing.
