Heading to Best Buy tomorrow - plan is to buy the 65" LG B7 or C7.

Downside is I've agreed it will be my Christmas present from the wife. Next few weeks are going to be agony.

Congrats!

As I said to parisian above though, if you do plan on making it a present please make sure to at least take top box off and plug in. Sometimes small cracks can only be seen when the tv is plugged in. Really would hate to see someone who buys something this pricey open it up on Xmas to only realize then and there that it's broke.

Do all the streaming apps like Netflix on the Sony do 4k and hdr? Never had an Android tv.

And I'll be keeping this for at least 5 years probably. It's going to be for gaming and movies in my basement. Using a PS4 pro and Xbox one s.
Can you report back here with what you think after you get the x900e home? I'm pretty much about to buy it or the tcl tonight. Thanks!

So my setup is going to be:

Switch
PS4
XBO Slim
FiOS

I was going to leave the TruMotion on for the gaming stuff because I heard that the games are really as affected as TV shows by that feature, and then with the FiOS settings, I was going to shut that TruMotion off.

As for the modes for SDR and HDR, I will try out both and see which I like better and go with that...

These sets are just awesome and the technicolor update just made them my fav set I've ever had.

Full disclosure though I'm an avid AVS reader and fairly big AV enthusiast. I have prob close to 20k in AV equipment. So I get that I'm on a gamer board for the most part and most of my recommendations are for just pure AV/Movie pleasure.

I do have PS4 Pro / Xbox X though for 4K gaming goodness.

Has anyone here directly compared or have spent time with the 2016 OLEDs and this year's models?

Are the improvements worth it?

If you have the budget for I m pretty sure you ll be more happy with the sony . I could not justify the 400$ difference as I have a lot of other things to buy in the near future (like a new ipad for my son's school). Tcl is a great tv for its price but the x900e is still quite better and it reflects in the price difference

On the 4k movie front, I just picked up:

Spiderman Homecoming
Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Planet Earth II

Technicolor is sure fine, but the lag is very bad for gaming, I don't know how you do it. The difference between this mode and game mode feels more than 20 ms. Using a mouse on technicolor is not a pleasant experience.

I thought Sony was updating there sets with DV sometime in December

Only the upper models x930e and above have the hardware to support it, those will be getting DV before end of year probably next firmware update. Though, Dolby is working on a software version of DV so the x900e may not be left out...but nothing is a guarantee.

Looks like LG sets are going on sale for cyber monday here in Japan on the 8th (delayed cyber monday?? ok)
If they're the same price as US I might have to take the plunge. I thought about importing one but with forwarding fees it was a bit too pricy for me.

Received mine on Tuesday from Amazon. I've been using a 8 year old Vizio 1080p and this set is beyond an upgrade for me. I don't care much for the Android TV part even though I am an Android phone user. There are apps you can't uninstall that are clearly there just for advertisement. But playing gears of war 4 was just so good.

My question for someone who might know, is there a way to quickly switch picture modes from custom and game? I am using rtings settings and work the Xbox doing passthrough I have to change picture modes when going from game to TV which is a pain.

im pretty sure lg has a Prototype oled with 700+ NITS sustained 100% window, strapped with heavy heatsink and watercooling + 800 watt power supply,
controlling each pixel brightness with max brightness on oled puts power consumption though the roof, brightness and resolution killed king plasma.

What in the world is this? The LGs can get much brighter than what's shown here. In fact, if anything, the C7 should be showing what the 930e is in this comparison, while the 930e even brighter. Ever seen The Martian or Mad Max on an LG OLED? Plenty bright.

edit:
Overall the peak brightness is a bit less than the LG C7 in all tests, partly because the ABL is slightly more aggressive on the A1E.

Has anyone here directly compared or have spent time with the 2016 OLEDs and this year's models?

Do you already have a 2016 model? From various reviews at least, the 2017 models are better, but not worth upgrading from last year's for the same screen size anyway. They handle near black slightly better and have slightly more nits as well as better input lag in game mode. This was before the more recent technicolor firmware as well as the update that apparently helped near black and shadow details anymore. If you already have a 2016, it should be easy to wait until next year or even later. If you don't already have one, now is one of the best times to get one.

Anyone have experience with buying TVs from Crutchifield? Ordered the 65" LG OLED from them and any idea when they generally call for scheduling delivery? Hoping they deliver on weekends.

Hi everyone, just wanted to hear your thoughts about LG OLED55B7V? I know it's an outgoing model, but therefore it can be grabbed for a pretty good price at the moment. The price would be - give or take, in dollars 1800 I believe.

It's widely considered as one of the best TVs you can buy today.

Thanks for the answer.

Yeah I sort of got that impression of it being a pretty good one based on reviews, but Im completely out of the loop when it comes to tv:s. Im just checking the boxes, 4K - check! HDR? Check! Input Lag? They say it's good in the reviews so check I guess!? Haha.

Hi,

Just got the LG55C7 and love it! been playing around but would like to know if anyone was able to use the Device connect to work with Arris cable boxes. They do not show up in menu and have tried multiple other manufactures but can't get it to work.

If not i will live with using multiple remotes (Boo)

Just bought a B7 myself, but please be aware that OLEDs are susceptible to image retention and possible burn-in. So just know that, and if you can, purchase one from a retailer that offers an extended warranty that covers burn-in and image retention. It's not something to stress out over, as the 2017 LG OLEDs have multiple layers of software-based functions to help limit image retention, but know it is something that can happen depending on your usage.

Picked up the x900e (49") yesterday. Assassin's Creed and Forza 7 really stand out on it. Still haven't watched anything that is 4k and HDR, but loving the tv so far.

I stayed up till midnight (UK time) to buy a 4k set. Was going to buy the 55inch B7 from John lewis (5 year warranty that by most accounts they honour pretty well) for about 1499 pounds. Didn't have enough in my paypal by about 20 quid and wasn't going to have them take the whole amount though my non-UK accounts that the PP account was linked to so I closed the browser and went to bed. woke up, checked JL's website and they cut 100 pounds off due to a price match and so I was able to buy it this morning for much cheaper than last night. Chose delivery next saturday rather than take time off work from wednesday. Stoked. I've already started building up a library of 4k UHD material and both 4k consoles.

now the waiting game. also, now browsing for hungry hungry hippoes.

What kind of settings people with the LG have for media? I'm using PC input with most of the processing turned off, with PC Input the TruMotion is disabled and it cannot be switched on but the other "enhancements" can be turned on, is there a reason to though?
I'm just wondering if there's any way to make better use of my TV, most of the setups seem to turn them all off so I guess they don't improve the PQ, rather preference kind of processing?

I just realized my OLED is 120hz at 1080p so I needed to test it out. Doesn't look much different I think but it definitely feels different. Any comparisons I can do?

have people bought from dell or frys and ever had to do a return/exchange?

how do they handle returns? sounds like you're responsible for shipping it back yourself which could be a pain. dell seems to charge a restocking fee but that $998 price + getfrugal 21.5% cashback is tempting. wish the 65x900e was in stock.

Okay so based on great reviews and the reported low response times I got the LG B7A 55" from Newegg for $1,399. It was a flash deal that apparently beat even the BF deals by $100. I can't wait to hook up my PS4 Pro to it and play The Frozen Wilds!

Hey guys, can anyone help me out here

Can anyone vouch for the HDR on the Samsung 55MU6400? Struggling to see if it's worth the upgrade from my Sony 40R, since I'll get barely any benefit from the 4k right now.

Mainly a gaming/ Netflix tv, if that has any baring.

This model specifically since it's on offer, but I'm open to suggestions if HDR is at all worth it at this price point.

I noticed Overwatch on PC is a bit blurrier than other games when I set it to 1080p 120hz on my 4K OLED. Is there a setting that I need to adjust?

Not gaming related, but for those who are getting, or just got an OLED, do yourself a favor and borrow an Xbox One S (or X) from someone if you don't already have one, or just buy a dedicated player.
Finally got to watch this today, and oh, my god. The hype it gets is 100% justified. Unlike the majority of the currently available UHDs, this is native 4K, and really shows the potential of the jump from 1080p to 2160p, even at a similar viewing distance. It's pretty much a reference/demo disc for these TVs.

Just another heads up about the LG B/C/E7 OLED panel uniformity. In the comparison above you can see my B7 on the top and X900E on the bottom. Settings are very close to each other although I gotta admit messing up the backlight/brightness on the Sony a bit (should have been 8, was 12). Picture of B7 was taken with iPhone 6S and the Sony with iPhone X, but I think this comparison is valid enough to show how bad the uniformity can be in LG's OLED panels. So if you're interested in getting real value for your money and you're interested in the quality of your picture in the future, do the following for you new LG OLED B/C/E7:

Keep your tv on for over 4 hours after setting it up. Play a game, watch some movies...it doesn't matter what you do. Then power it off by pressing the power button on your remote or tv. The tv turns off as expected but in the background it triggers the first compensation cycle that last's about 10 minutes, so wait about 15 minutes to be sure it's finished and turn the tv on. Now the panel uniformity is pretty much in the state that it's going to be for the rest of it's life, so head on to YouTube and watch this. Preferably in a dark room with these general settings provided by rtings.com. If the banding looks as bad as mine (the right side of the panel), you're bound to see it watching normal content. So I'd advise returning it immediately to the store because shit like that is unacceptable in a premium tv like this.

I'd like stress out that this is just a friendly reminder to everyone! I'm not a purist or expert in these things and I wasn't set out to find the perfect uniformity in a tv panel. Heck, two months ago I had no idea what "banding" or "panel uniformity" meant. I read the reviews and decided to invest my hard earned cash on this B7 because it was hands down the best tv in 2017 according to everyone. It didn't take long for me to see that there's definitely something wrong with the picture after watching a handful of movies. A bit of googling around and then I wished I would've known all of this before buying.

And the brightness comparison a couple of pages ago is pretty spot on according to my experience. HDR on my B7 was very dark and muddy; HDR Game mode was absolutely dreadful.

Damn, that is one bad panel - you lost the panel lottery big-time.

It really is a lottery - one may be lucky and get a clean panel, or the complete opposite. The state of the panels seem to vary between and inbetween absolutely horrible and pretty good. I haven't seen an OLED with perfect uniformity yet.

I've ordered a C7 and pray I will get a good one. If not, I'll return it (I get a two month return period). I was initially planning on buying a 55" X900E, but no retailers have discounted it, while the C7 price was slashed. I'll give OLED one more go (already had 1x EC9100 and 3x E6 - right now I have the 65" X900E).

If youre using Nvidia, go into the nvidia control panel and set scaling to gpu. Display scaling looked blurry at 1080p 120hz for me but having the gpu do the scaling solved it.

Jesus, if you wait till next year around this time and start hearing about new tv tech next year...you'll probably never end up with a new set lol.

Edit: Seems like smaller sets are some years away but some big names investing into the tech. Next few years in TV tech is going to be quite interesting.

is hdr being too dim after a firmware update still an issue on these lgs?

if your talking about game mode, last I heard yes. Apparently LG deliberately did that for better tone mapping. Some people think its just too dim and some like it, I looked at it in store and was too dim for my liking. You should go see it yourself assuming their display unit is up to date and you have access to controlling it.

I know some folks are just gaming out of game mode, but input lag is higher. I'm very sensitive to input lag so that wouldn't work for me.

Netflix is streaming planet earth 2.... would it look as a good as if I bought the 4K blu ray?

No, but it should still look better than a standard 1080p blu-ray if only for the HDR. What region are you living in btw? Over here, it only has the original Planet Earth.

Having more than two technologies that can potentially replace plasma is good. The only downside with this news is that you can expect it to be at least 3-5 years before affordable sets start appearing, similar to how long it took for OLED to become "reasonable".

I just don't trust LG and this type of tv

That is disgusting

There needs to be more manufacturers
