Just another heads up about the LG B/C/E7 OLED panel uniformity. In the comparison above you can see my B7 on the top and X900E on the bottom. Settings are very close to each other although I gotta admit messing up the backlight/brightness on the Sony a bit (should have been 8, was 12). Picture of B7 was taken with iPhone 6S and the Sony with iPhone X, but I think this comparison is valid enough to show how bad the uniformity can be in LG's OLED panels. So if you're interested in getting real value for your money and you're interested in the quality of your picture in the future, do the following for you new LG OLED B/C/E7:
Keep your tv on for over 4 hours after setting it up. Play a game, watch some movies...it doesn't matter what you do. Then power it off by pressing the power button on your remote or tv. The tv turns off as expected but in the background it triggers the first compensation cycle that last's about 10 minutes, so wait about 15 minutes to be sure it's finished and turn the tv on. Now the panel uniformity is pretty much in the state that it's going to be for the rest of it's life, so head on to YouTube and watch
this. Preferably in a dark room with
these general settings provided by rtings.com. If the banding looks as bad as mine (the right side of the panel), you're bound to see it watching normal content. So I'd advise returning it immediately to the store because shit like that is unacceptable in a premium tv like this.
I'd like stress out that this is just a friendly reminder to everyone! I'm not a purist or expert in these things and I wasn't set out to find the perfect uniformity in a tv panel. Heck, two months ago I had no idea what "banding" or "panel uniformity" meant. I read the reviews and decided to invest my hard earned cash on this B7 because it was hands down the best tv in 2017 according to everyone. It didn't take long for me to see that there's definitely something wrong with the picture after watching a handful of movies. A bit of googling around and then I wished I would've known all of this before buying.
And the brightness comparison a couple of pages ago is pretty spot on according to my experience. HDR on my B7 was very dark and muddy; HDR Game mode was absolutely dreadful.
