It's analog noise. Without seeing your whole setup I couldn't really see what the cause is. Could be ambient rf interference, could be fluctuations in power, there are innumerable possible causes.

Anyways, I picked up Duke Nukem for Saturn this week. Haven't got a chance to sit down with it just yet.

yeah, it's a crazy chapter. i'm loving this again.

see, part 1 (US) took me ages to find < $100, but the JP ones weren't too pircey, so i also bought those 3 and then burned the most recent versions of shining force central's fan translation effort, which is absolutely excellent & the only way you're gonna experience the whole trilogy.

what blows my mind is, i went out of my way to save/spare certain characters in scenario 1 that i'm told will affect things in 3...and each scenario seems to show the war from a different perspective.
this was like '97 i wanna say, how cool is that?

hey, Laevateinn i was looking into the fan translations,

what do i need to play them on a PVM?

do i need to buy the US versions or can i get the JYP versions. how do i patch and play them? what do i need to get/buy?

You will need to be able to play burnt games or cd images to play the translations. I use a Rhea. I'm not sure if anyone still sells mods but Professor Abrasive is working on an alternative that hopefully will be released at some point in the near future. Otherwise if you're willing to live dangerously, you could always go old school and do a disc swap.

Assuming you have a way around the system's copy protection, the process is pretty simple. First thing you need to do is put your copy of the game in your computer, download the patch, run the provided executable and it will create an ISO for you. If you're using a Rhea or Phoebe, you'll need to convert it to CDI format. In terms of what version you need, you will need the US or European version of scenario one to play in English. The patch only works with these versions. Of course, the scenario one patch is only necessary if you want a slightly better translation and the real ending instead of the stupid one Sega of America made to cover up their lack of resources.

Which model of Saturn do you have?

Edit: I forgot you can play burnt games using an Action Replay

You can use Pseudo Saturn to play burnt games with an Action Replay. I have no experience with this but it seems like a lot of people do this. I'm sure someone else here can help you accomplish this. If you go this route, you won't need a Rhea. With how hard it is to get a Rhea, you might want to look into how to set up Psuedo Saturn and see if it's right for you.

Unfortunately, the scenario one English patch is only designed to work with an English copy of the game because it's only changing a small portion of the game. Scenarios 2 and 3 were only released in Japanese so that's your only choice but for Scenario 1 you will need a western copy.

Rhea is only if you want to permanently mod the system and use SD card instead of CDs.

If you just want to play a burned cdr, then you need pseudo Saturn or ps Kai. I prefer Kai. But that is just me.

For those you will need to swap once to boot into the installer for your action replay. But once you have the AR flashed you can play all the burned games you want.

There's also the Gamer's Cartridge, which is basically Pseudo Saturn Kai, but also allows direct save to cart, which is pretty important to me IMO. Also you can export your saves with an SD card, so that's also nice!

yeah that's a helluva holiday haul!
and Ark's plot directly ties into III so doing that one first is best, plus it's one of the best dungeon crawlers I've played

Wow, amazing get.

I can't believe they sold you that Nights. It's like they can't even read or something.

Hope you enjoy Shining the Holy Ark. It's a great adventure. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

i will! i'm pretty excited.
not sure what i'm going to keep. i just grabbed everything since it's only a once a year, one day sale. i can always go back and return things. i just didn't want others to grab it and i decide later i want it.

i also grabbed 2 US CIB legit neogeo AES games for 54 and 66 bucks each but don't even have an AES yet.

there's some turbo games so i might go back later tonight.

It's the season for some Christmas Nights too :D
i hope it's worth 27 bucks =P

It's totally worth $27 just to see Sonic in Nights.

That's a good price too. I paid $60 for it sealed in an issue of Next Gen magazine

The first part of this chapter is so good. I hope you're ready for some daddy issues though. :)

Princess Crown is one of my all time faves. Before I learned Japanese I played through with a printed out translation, then replayed the PSP remake while I was living in japan. It's so good.

I'm not a huge fan of Princess Crown's battle system. The game is beautiful and has a lot of potential but I just couldn't stand fighting anyone. If they made that game as a more traditional action title instead of pseudo-RPG it would have been perfect.

It freaked me out recently when turning off the light in the next room caused the picture/sound from the game to temporarily disappear. Unplugging the video cable and plugging it back in again seems to work sometimes. Another replugging in the power cord worked. It's bizarre.

Shining Force III Ep. II エルベゼム神殿前 Before Elbezem Temple is complete bullshit. I'm having a terrible time figuring out where the lightning actually strikes.

There's only a few places the lightning will strike. Even though it's mostly random where danger will be, you should be fine if you rush to safe areas. This makes the confrontation with the enemy force pretty tense because you need to fight while avoiding the lightning.

It's also a great place to level your healers if you feel like they've fallen behind a bit.

The only issue is Donhort who, unfortunately, is mostly useless as a main knight.

I payed about a $100 shipped(US seller) for a JP Model 1 bundled with Bomberman, then looked at some prices of the games I want on Ebay. It's only gonna get more expensive from here on out -__-
I should have started collecting ten years ago but I was young and dumb :)

Yeah, Saturn collecting is not cheap unless you want a bunch of copies of Soviet Strike and Daytona.

I've recently decided to delve into original hardware for a few older consoles, and that includes the Sega Saturn. It's already been quite expensive... I'm currently waiting for the PACKAPUNCH cables to get back in stock too.

So far I've picked up Layer Section, Street Fighter Zero II, and Virtual On. A lot of the other shmups I'm looking for are quite expensive unfortunately. I'd like to pick up Vampire Savior and Bomberman sometime soon too.

Uh, if cost is a concern this is not the system to collect for. It's not as bad as Neo Geo or PC Engine but it is pricey

One game at a time.

Is it worth opting for the US versions of the first two Panzer Dragoon games for the story, or is there not much of it?

That's funny because the fighting game styled battle system makes this game much more interesting to me.
