Towns in Valkyria Chronicles 4.

Yes or no?
None of the other games had towns, so no. I'm guessing it'll do something like the other games, use a location where you upgrade your units/equipment (can't remember what it was in 1, in 2 it was the school and in 4 it'll probably be the sub) but it's just background, you don't actually explore it

Brandon is officially losing me.

What was up with him dancing around the word "predatory" when talking about loot boxes? That's not up to discussion - it is an admittedly predatory system, that literally brags about chasing whales.

And saying it's all about messaging while bringing up how casinos have a fine line talking about gambling addiction hotlines as if they do it out of good will, and not because federal regulation forces them to? What?

I'm really glad Ben was in that panel.

Hah cool to see Jon Finger too.

I was wondering what drama there is going on right now since there was so many new pages since I last visited the thread. Seems to be about Moriarty. I wouldn't bring him as a guest to EZA, but I see no problem with Brandon being a guest of his. I'm not super familiar with everything Moriarty so I leave the judgement of his character to Brandon who knows him better than I do (tbh he seems very arrogant and that's probably why I never cared for him). I did see the the tweet about Asian Americans and I'm also aware of the women's day tweet.

Edit: Seems like people already moved on for now, sorry.

To be fair, I didn't know that was federal regulation for casinos to offer an addiction hotline.

AC Origins has been ok, kinda hoping to wrap this up. I kept seeing how different it was, but it feels even more of the same because every mission was infiltrating an area, setting someone free and get out. There is very little variety in mission structure that we saw in previous games. There is no more killing someone and then hiding by sitting on a bench or blending in with a crowd of people. I don't know, I was hoping for more with a game set in Egypt, but damn it does look great. And I did love the climb to the eagle's perch at the top of the great pyramid. Best one in the series by far.

Edit: 100th post. Glad to share it with y'all.

Did Ben ever make it on here? I feel like whenever he's on the podcast I can always count on him to say something insightful on the heavier/not purely games-focused topics like he did this week with the microtransactions thing. Obviously I love all the allies but Ben does a great job of being a genuine caring person.

AC Origins or Shadow of War?

Anyone play both and have an opinion?
Haven't played either but I just picked up AC: Origins. I wasn't too impressed with Mordor and then the sequel added all that bad stuff.

I couldn't get into it and dropped it.

Yea, I'm not sure what to say. The game is definitely slow to start and would be difficult to drag through if you weren't enjoying it. I feel the repetition does pays off as the game hits its later act.

Anyways, just finished it. I'd put Night in the Woods beside Persona 5, Nier: Automata and Yakuza 0 for the most impressive games I've played this year.
Still need to get a Switch though.

I uninstalled Shadow of War after a couple of hours, drab, dull and repetitive.

You could argue the same about AC: Origins (well, it's not drab) but I'm really enjoying it. It's fucking gorgeous on PC and the world is huge and alive like Witcher 3.

I wouldn't play AC Origins on PC. Sure, it works OK, but I'm not subjecting my CPU to 100% load for long playsessions. The wear and tear on that, the PSU feeding it and the cooling is not good at all.

Want to play it as ive heard good things, but I'll wait until Ubi patch it out or it gets cracked.

I'm not sure what to think of Night in the Woods. I found the characters very charming and the tone very relatable.
However I did not understand the plot at all, well not before I watched video explanations. Also I thought the third act came out of nowhere.

Probably still the best 2017 game I've kickstarted, even though I haven't played neither Yooka Laylee nor A Hat in Time lol.

I had missed the Walmart deal on Mario + Rabbids but managed to snag it during the Amazing lightning deal.

Pretty excited to try it out. Could anyone give me an estimate as to how long it is generally?

I 100%'d the game and my activity log says I spent 37 hours with it which seems about right though I did leave my Switch running for 2 hours whilst I had to go take an after hours client call. I think a crit path would be in the mid low 20s but it's certainly worth doing the challenges which unlock once you finish the story content in that world. They're almost like puzzle scenarios where you need to figure out how to spec out your team to deal achieve the objective.

edit: just realised the first dlc for this game is out... gah. Need to finish SMT4 before touching anything else. I might way until the story dlc comes out to revisit the game..

Borrowed Nier Automata from a friend, gonna try to finish it before the end of the year.

What level of Nier universe knowledge is recommended?

You can play it without knowing anything, but there are some callbacks that may resonate with you if you've played the previous Nier. If you want, you can watch some Nier analyses (there was a good series of videos by Clemps on youtube) but you can treat Automata as a standalone game also.

They need to change how bets work a bit in 2018. It actually does seem unfair that Jones and Kyle are there every week while the other team gets mixed up every week.

The easiest thing to do would be to put them on different teams. Also, it would cultivate more of a rivalry compared to the purple platypi being different people every week.

Kyle actually already mentioned on the last 2 podcasts they're changing the podcast betting system for next year.

It would be cool if the just made two teams like Kyle, Ben, Blood and Ian vs Jones, Damiani, Huber and Brad.

But then they would have to make sure one guest from each team was on each episode which would complicate scheduling.

It's still going to be unfair to Kyle. Jones wins all the points so Team Bosman v Team Jones means lol Jones win. Betting is not suppose to be fair. There's a reason why gambling ruins lives.

It's so nice to be able to consistently rely on Ben having better articulated versions of my own opinions in every discussion they have.

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but team Bosman vs team Jones is something I wanted for a long time. Also stop the whole "rights and responsibilities" thing and just have the rotating chair recommend a video and close out the show.

I have to do a huge amount of tidying, sorting and storing this weekend and while listening to the Allies doesn't make it painless, it certainly takes the sting out of it. Gonna save the podcast for this evening as a treat :)

I like the rights and responsibility part. It's the prize for winning the bet. Bets would be pointless without it. Plus they have two rotating chairs so how would they decide who gets it?

I meant if team Bosman wins the person next to him gets it, same for team Jones. They still get the final word and get to recommend a video, just with different more compact wording and no "share your Twitter handle" as a reward.

This idea worked much better a month ago before they started changing up the allies pairings. And Don's bet could've subsituted when an unplanned pairing happens.

This was linked to in the intramural video.

Maybe it's just me but I'm surprised how everyone is tall.

"Full inch or no inch!"

As someone who was born in the US but grew up overseas, US measurement systems make absolutely no sense and I don't get why we don't just switch to the metric system. I kinda have an idea of how tall everyone is but it's still dumb.
