After getting this last night at 10 pm, I played it through in one session... Took 9 hours. Probably about 20% completion.

I've gotten another 50 or so Moons since.

Wonderful game... Far better than BOTW, imo... so much more creativity on display. You can see the shrine concept from BOTW refined here, for certain...

Finally got a chance to play more of the game this morning. Still having such a great time, I've made it to Lake Kingdom after doing the Wooded Kingdom. As I have only found 57 moons so far, I'm going back to Bonneton and searching for more. I want this game to last a long time, there's no rush.

Lake Kingdom/character spoiler

Has anyone been to the bottom of the water well thing in the main bubble? You need to have the 6 health buff and you still barely make it. It was the first time I came across Captain Toad and when I got to the bottom and heard his music it was one of the best moments of the game for me so far
Got there with 3 health. Just keep hammering ZR.

Only about 3 kingdoms in, but it really seems like the best bits of 64, Sunshine, and the Galaxies all find their place here. The new mechanics felt effortless after a few minutes. I'm digging this so much.

Probably about a third of the way through and it's a contender for my favorite 3D Mario ever.

In the Lake Kingdom right now, this game is just unbelievably good. It's everything I would have wanted out of a Mario 64 successor. It almost certainly will be my GotY.

This game is just a joy to play. I die and fuck up sometimes but it is still amazing. Figuring shit out. Finding shit on accident. Going to take me a while to get through this one.

There's times where you are pressing left and turning one way, then pressing left again and turning the other way. There was one moon needed to take a break from because I was going insane.

When you say relative to screen direction, if the bullet is facing left (<—) would you press the stick up to turn right?

You literally just point the joystick the on-screen direction you want to go and the Bullet Bill will turn as quickly as it can to head that direction. If you want to go right, you press right.

Made it to New Donk City tonight. Every level seems better than the last.

And I'll echo what people have been saying - the Steam Gardens theme music is incredible. Want the soundtrack to this game ASAP.

I don't get when you buy a moon from the hat vendors. Does this just automatically take one off from your list that you could've found or do you have to buy a moon from every Kingdom?

I looked in the list and couldn't find anything correlated. Or is this buying a moon thing just to help advance to the next level without affecting the list.

Really can't tell this either.... Later you can buy 10 moons at once, which I haven't done, but makes no sense to me in the game's structure.

It's a unique moon. They are this games equivalent to the 100 coin stars/shines from 64 and Sunshine.

Nintendo is still one of the best at doing victory/celebration jingles and cutscenes. It's so expressive when Mario gets a multi-moon.

Started it while waiting for Wolfenstein to install. MAN this game is just so joyous. I was smiling from ear to ear through my first few hours with it.

This game deserves every ounce of praise from what I've seen so far.

Played about 5 hrs yesterday. Has anyone had Joy-Con issues in the Lake Kingdom or is it just me? I really don't seem to have the issue anywhere else. Really might just need to send them in for repair.

In regards to the Shop Moons:
Only the first moon per kingdom that you buy counts as a mission. The extra ones that appear in the post-game are just there if you need to grind for costumes (and that's why they're only in the post-game, so you can't finish a level by only buying), but they don't replace other moons and don't count as missions. Don't waste money on the extra moons unless you're right near a milestone and can't be bothered to search for more moons, save it for the costumes!

Thanks for clearing that up.

What's with the silver block in Cascade Kingdom. Spoiler if necessary.
There's a block in basically every kingdom - keep in mind their locations, but don't worry about them: it'll become obvious when you'll be able to interact with them.
The blocks get activated once you finish the main story of the game. Once you hit them, they 'expand' the level by adding more moons to collect. These can be puzzles, green-star esque exploration ones, or new side areas, so post-game is pretty meaty.

I'm so impressed by this game. There's just so MUCH stuff to do and it's all so fun. This definitely beats out Zelda for my favorite Switch title already.

This game is so good... The only part that bothers me is some portions feel more like sm3dw rather than Mario 64… otherwise absolutely fantastic.

Also, yay I'm approved :) hello everyone

Okay so I beat it and HOLY HELL THIS POST GAME!!

MAJOR SPOILER WARNING FOR THE POST GAME DO NOT CLICK THIS BY ACCIDENT!!
Mushroom Kingdom is a legit level WHAT!?
THERES AREAS TO EXPLORE AROUND THE CASTLE!? WHAT!??
YOSHI!?!!?
REFIGHTING THE DRAGON FIGHT IN A PAINTING!?
A TEASE OF ANOTHER NEW AREA!?

Seriously this is the kind of thing I always wanted in a Mario post game, tons of new stuff to do and unlock starting right off the bat with an ENTIRELY NEW LEVEL!? Also all the fucking call backs to Mario 64, A star you get from looking up at the ceiling like to get the Red cap in Mario 64, Yoshi on the roof, you can drain the moat, ect. I FUCKING LOVE THIS!!

Honestly I was kinda iffy on a few parts in the game but already this post game really puts this game forward at being just genuinely great. So many 3D Mario games end up really lacking a post game but this game nails it so far.

Not the only one around to mention but I often find myself dumbfounded and in awe before gameplay twists and small details. That Jinx ride man... never thought i'd smile that much with akward controls! I think my neighbors will find it odd that I laugh alone that much...

Ok, so I am still on the fossil kingdom. I have not explored any other worlds because I want to get as many moons and purple coins before I progress

However , I only got 17 moons out of 25 and I searched the world upside down . I guess the other moons will unlock as we progress ? Maybe unlock after I acquired certain abilities ?

Sooooooo I wanted to play in portable mode but the motion control only moves prompted me to start on the tv first to see what it felt like. Now I'm kicking ass and am thinking fuck now I don't want to play portable mode. But that's the way I wanted to play it! So any thoughts on how the game handles portable only?
