Which warlock exotics would you guys say are the best ones?
So far I've got karnstein's armlets and the Skull of Dire Arakhama.

I love using the skull of public events but I feel like the armlets are probably better.
All of the major players have been named already, but there a few other great choices.

Winters Guile is fantastic with a Devour Warlock build. Just going around slapping everything into the void.
Starfire Protocol is secretly very strong in encounters where you want to use your rift a lot like the end of the raid.
Crown of Tempests is by far the best Warlock exotic for torrent Nightfalls. Once that multiplier gets up to +5 you'll be doing more damage spamming grenades everywhere than you would with your super.

Warlock has the best exotics.

I've been doing very well in the Crucible running Enigma's Draw and Annual Skate. It forces me to be more aggressive, which I started doing with fusions in Destiny 1, and it really complements the top tree of the Sentinel.

Also, I wasn't really around on Friday so I had to skip the Lore stuff, but I'll get back to it this week.

Obvious maths but would like confirmation: according to DIM, I'm at rank 25 with the Iron Banner. That means 500 tokens right? I'm only missing the titan mark so statistically speaking, how much more tokens do I have to spend to get it? Estimations welcomed, funny ones need to be accompanied by a gif. :-)

I'd say another 300-400 and you might get it but don't count on it. I mean you've spent 500 already and haven't had it drop so you may never get it.

A new emblem that can be obtained by playing with a free trial player showed up in-game quite a while ago so this was planned long ago, but yeah the timing isn't great. Post DLC launch if they have a solid improvement plan would be better.

Okay, so I just listened to the Crucible Radio Podcast with News (weapons designer) and Klawdd (Subclass designer) twice and what an incredible interview. If you are salty about anything you read about it via that bullshit reddit post, you owe it to yourself to listen to this. Heck, if you care about D2 at all, you should listen to it. They go into such fascinating detail about the foundational design goals for D2 and the problems that D1 had that it's practically required listening.

One example is going from Random Rolls to Fixed Rolls. In D1, when you described guns, like Eyasluna with Luck in the Chamber, Rifled and Rangefinger, you were mostly talking about perks, not the gun itself. And that is very complicated and generates this perception (true or not) that those perks are required for the gun. And what happens when you get a random perk combo that's OP? It's impossible to balance. Take Eyasluna with Range Finder again. You can't nerf Range Finder, because that nerfs it for every other gun where it's not OP. And you can't nerf Eyasluna's range because then Range Finder becomes required. Fixed rolls reduces the possible space so things can be tailored specifically to fill different playstyles. It also removes the anxiety of getting the gun you want to drop and then inspecting it to find Grenadier and Exhumed.

But really, you should give it a listen. They talk about so much and it's fascinating. These guys are whip crack smart and it gives me tons of hope for Destiny 2's future.

Great post! I really enjoyed the podcast too. It was great to hear the insight behind their design choices. I was actually very surprised that folks came away upset from it.

The highlights for me were:
  • "Taking away the anxiety to get perks A,B,C on Gun F from strike Q" I loved this. I farmed countless hours in D1 to get a "God Rolled" Grasp and it never dropped. The feeling of constant disappointment to just get the ideal drop was so freaking frustrating.
  • "Give Players the good stuff faster" Outside of a few exotics I have everything I want in D2. I freaking love it. The lack of grind means I just get to play the game.
  • They also talked about the highs/lows of decision making when power ammo comes up. I really enjoyed that segment because I've experienced that flow in the game and it totally works how they designed it.

Now, if they would just remove Survival all together I'd be happy.

Thanks for this! I wonder what time today part 2 will drop?

It's already up (on iTunes at least), I got to listen to both parts today while standing around freezing my butt off at work.

Both parts were really great and fun to hear, some cool bits of info in there. Part 2 has a nice little anti-salt intro from Birds that was pretty good to listen to. I still love playing the game so it was just nice to hear him calling out the haters who are shitting up the internets with D2 toxicity.

And we're only at this stage because of the lack of communication for months.
Now the way we write is Bungie's fault, too.

I don't think you're correct. I think you would see better dialogue if the community was more reasonable in its engagement. It's a two-way street. I also disagree that "toxic" is a lazy descriptor (something -PXG- said) for the way the community is conducting itself.

Bungie could do a better job communicating through its official channels. But we could be having better personal relationships with the people who work on this game if we keep from being assholes and treating them like a faceless corporation. This is still a relatively small company (in terms of business).

And you know what? Not every aspect of the game is liked or hated unilaterally. People are too quick to paint the other side as an apologist or a hater. I've done it. We've all done it. Having better personal relationships keeps us from being unreasonably dismissve and quick to judgement, both with each other, and with the people at Bungie.

Finally got my 10 packages in with IB on PC, sucks that the only S1 IB was during thanksgiving weekend when I was away from my PC from Wednesday thru Sunday but I got my crappy emblem and somehow got the Pulse Rifle which was the only weapon I really wanted (never got it on PS4 despite 30+ turnins). Would've liked the titan mark as well, but I kinda hate how IB armor works with shaders since it always keeps the gold and some other stuff so I prob wouldn't have used it anyway.

At work. Is Saladin giving 300 PL engrams today or did this entire Iron Banner seriously go by without that?

Well the gunsmith hasn't dropped 300 for the entirety of destiny which is more than 7 weeks, so not too impossible that Saladin never gave 300 since he is a daily reset. Not like it matters much anyway since it isn't that hard to find someone else at 300 for infusion, and it will be irrelevant in like 2 weeks anyway. Still, stupid system is stupid.

Oh boy time to figure out how to dual box destiny on my PC and play with my alt trial account for a dumb emblem.

I only get light level 265 from all vendors this is normal right? I am Light level 272. I keep reading that I can grind tokens but the redemption just gives me 265. (Gunsmith, Iron Banner, Vanguard tokens, ect.)

I'm not making excuses for the community being "toxic". Bungie has always had the opportunity to engage with the constructive members of the community. That side of the community has always been open.

I've seen good and bad community management, and this definitely falls on the bad side. There's a lack of transparency, trust, and good faith engagement on both sides, but it's up to the developer to "be the bigger person", because it's up to them to maintain their playerbase, not the other way around. The community should never be held to a standard; it's up to the developers to shape their own community. That's always been the case.

Anyway, I don't want to flood this thread with too much negativity or derail it any further. I can PM you some firsthand examples of how developers I've worked for have handled similar situations if you're interested.
Personally, I'm still enjoying the game a lot and playing every day, but nearly all of my friends quit just 3 or 4 weeks after starting.

Yeah, you're at a soft cap. You'll need to get further increases from sources that will drop gear that's higher than your current level such as legendary quests and powerful engrams (I think raid chests too?) and by upgrading your current gear as much as possible by infusing stuff that's slightly higher base PL (or simply equipping better stuff). Keep an eye out for gear that has a purple mod in it. By infusing whatever your highest level gear is in its slot that doesn't yet have a purple mod, you'll have five free PL. Once you hit 280 you can freely craft them at the gunsmith.

After 28 packages, I have a full Titan set and all weapons in IB. Alhough I was missing only the helm and the pulse after the first IB, those two took like 10 packages.

So I'm forced to use these hundreds of tokens. I'd rather save them for another IB but if Bungie is going to be like that. I like the old IB system more.

It's just a nonsensical system. I can't imagine how anyone at Bungie thought this was a good idea.

If you hit max PL on a character, vendors should then always drop at max PL (minus +5 with the mod) for that character. Every single time. We did the work to get to max PL so now let us bring up our gear easily. We still need to use legendary mods on them anyway to hit the true max PL.

But nope, instead they put the vendors on a random schedule with some characters having daily resets and some having weekly resets. But the game of course doesn't tell us this. I mean, that alone is terrible but the rotating schedule just shouldn't exist at all. What is the point?

My guess as a designer: the rotating schedule was not supposed to be datamined/discovered by the average player, it's there to surprise players on occasion.

They aren't leaving the loot pool are they? Or was it something you just wanted out of the way before we hit season 2?
We only know there will be new weapons in Season 2 but no indication of old weapons leaving the loot pool for now. Same for armor, it's staying the same in season 2 but we are getting ornaments for using them.

This is the same community that created a website to track Public Event schedules in destiny 1. I find it hard to imagine bungie didn't expect people to try and track the 300 power engrams as well, but the system as a whole seems weird to me.

They also never tell you about Heroic triggers for public events, even though anyone can look it up online. And some of those triggers run opposite of what you'd intuitively want to do to complete the event. Basically, they have a pattern of doing things to create mystique for the first time player but are annoying for engaged players.

how do the package reward previews work? does that mean there's a higher chance of dropping the items in the preview? i'm trying to get the antiope-d and i'm wondering if i should only trade in gunsmith mats when that shows up in the preview

Hey, guys! I keep getting tokens from PEs, what are they for? Reputation? Should I just hawk 'em as soon as I get them or save them until I hit a higher level? (Level 9ish now.)

Everyone needs to see this..

Gambling at its best.

tl;dw 600 tokens to get a full set of Iron banner armor

Is it just me, or does Saladin look like an older Denzel Washington there?

You can turn those tokens in to planetary vendors for gear. 20 tokens for a package containing random armor and/or weapons.

Save them till you get to level 20 and use them to get your power level up to the 265 soft cap.

Destiny Reset Era (DRE) Community Survey Results!

Hey all, last week I posted the first survey of our community on our Discord. I'm here now with the results! We got 126 responses, which out of a server of ~1100 isn't bad since most of the time there are about 200 people online any given day.

First up is a survey of System Preference:
unknown.png

If people picked multiple systems, it was always Console + PC. Gone are the PS+XB players.

unknown.png

We are definitely a hardcore community, but that's not a surprise at all. The people who didn't play very much or at all, almost universally picked up the game on PC.

unknown.png

Weapons! First off, I forgot SMGs and Sidearms. My bad. But other than that I'm pleased with how well Scouts are doing. I'm sure that's partly MIDA's fault, but we've got Mañana SR4 too. Autos are godly, so this is just like Vanilla D1 where Pulses are lame, too. Rocket Launchers are a fave, and why wouldn't they be. Grenade launchers were VASTLY more popular for PC players than Console, just like Hand Cannons. Everything else was pretty evenly split platform-wise.

THE RAIDS

unknown.png

(1is the worst, 5 is the best)

I am furious that Skolas is apparently "the worst". You people disgust me. I'm going to chalk that up to salt about the lack of checkpoints and the fact that he was behind 5 rounds of PoE. Any other rationale is unacceptable. King's Fall and The Leviathan had the same average, but King's Fall also had more people loving it and hating it. Leviathan is actually most similar in reactions to Crota's End. And surprising no one, Vault and Wrath are top performers.

unknown.png

In both cases, the last vanilla location is the least liked. I'm a bit shocked that the Dreadnaught ranked so high.

Top 5 Favorite NPCs:
  1. Cayde-6
  2. Lord Shaxx
  3. Falisafe
  4. Ikora
  5. Eris Morn
Shout out to "Hawthorne's coked out Hawk" as my favorite response. Also "Make Shiro relevant and interesting again!"

That's it for Destiny questions. Now onto the state of the Discord!

unknown.png

unknown.png

(1is the worst, 5 is the best)
I'm pretty proud of those results. We've built a great community both there in the OT and on the Discord. I'm glad others are pleased as well. As always if you have feedback, feel free to DM a mod or air it in #general. ;)

And lastly.....

The Most Attractive Moderator Rankings!!
  1. Nightbot with 50.4% of the votes
  2. JohnOfMars
  3. Hawkian
  4. Ruthless
  5. xplicitone
  6. JiggaMan
  7. Falifax had the most female voters (aside from Nightbot)
Thanks! I'll be back tomorrow with demographic info!

If you're not a member of the Discord, feel free to PM any of the mods listed above.

That survey is funny Leviathan raid is so much better than Kings fall. I'd also be willing to argue it's better than wrath by a lil bit.
