If this is legitimate, I wonder if there's the possibility of a Tales game announcement.
Hmm I remember someone else saying that Namco would release 3 new games for the Switch next year, so maybe this is where they will announce them, and if one of them is the Tales game we already know of there's a good possibility of it being shown there.

Well Sakuraba does not work for Bandai Namco, he's a freelancer so I guess they could still get Shiina for a new game if they really want.

okay seriously they have to announce the next game here

Yes, either a new mothership title or the Tales game for Switch, which could be the same game but I doubt it.

I'm having a weird issue with Symphonia (Steam version, with ToS Fix installed). Whenever I get an achievement the game crashes. No pop-ups or anything it just suddenly closes. Any idea what to do?

Only thing I can think of is reinstall the latest ToS Fix, and if that doesn't help, try disabling steam overlay while playing.

I already tried disabling it but it didn't help. I guess I'll try reinstalling. The tricky part of this issue is that it's hard to actually tell whether a solution worked since the achievements aren't very frequent.

It may be just me, but I actually hope that they move away from both Sakuraba and Shiina for the next Tales. I kinda want the next Tales to be a completely fresh start for the series. New composer/s would be a good way of cementing that. I'd like them to give the nod to ACE+ (the Xenoblade crew).

No reason to move away from Shiina. The music he did for Zestiria was so goddamn good I'd consider him my top 3 (behind Uematsu and Shimomura).

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the music in the series is bad. But they rotate composers anyway as it is, so why not give someone entirely new a shot at it? Since FF moved away from being a Uematsu composed series they've brought in a variety of different composers that each give that game a different vibe from the last.

While I'd like a Shiina heavy OST, I would be really interested to see what someone like Hamauzu could do with the series.

So I dunno how may people in this thread play it, but I started messing around with Tales of the Rays and it actually seems really fun for a mobile game. Even the gacha stuff seems relatively fair.

I'm itching for a new Tales game, but I haven't been able to get into the recent ones. Maybe I'll give Berseria another shot. I got a through the first few areas and towns in it and I felt like the combat was kind of button-mashy and Velvet seemed overpowered. Do those issues persist throughout the whole game?

I love Rays! Still play daily since launch.

Berseria has probably my least favorite combat from any Tales game which is sad since I love the story and characters so much. Velvet is pretty much always OP and easy to use, though Magilou and Eizen can be fun to play as.

I started Tales of the Rays a bit over a month ago and have been having fun with it. Once you finish all the story chapters and go through all the daily Enhance missions, you start running out of avenues for Mirrogems, though, and you end up missing out somewhat with the events if you're stuck with gimped characters. However, with the absurd price they charge for Mirrogems, it's easy to just ignore buying them.

It's almost 10 years since the 1st of the two Tales of Phantasia PSX patches came out, but despite playing it then, I only got up to the Temple of Fenrir. I did beat the GBA version around that time but...lol GBA version.

What's the current opinion on the Phantasian Productions patch vs. the Absolute Zero patch? At the time it was only the AZ patch and but if I'm going to start the game fresh, it doesn't hurt to look at both.

I haven't played Phantasia yet, but I plan on using the Phantasian Productions patch simply due to the more consistent naming conventions compared to official translations. I don't care that gummies make more sense, they're gels, damnit.

PP: More localized. If you play Tales games in English you'd be familiar with the style and names.
AZ: More literal and closer to the Japanese original to the point of preserving jokes that might not be as funny to many Westerners.
DeJap: If you want the "I bet Arche fucks like a tiger" line.

Dahngrest theme on youtube put me in the mood to play through Vesperia again, too many games on the go at the moment though and Symhonia HD is next in line for Tales anyway, haven't played it since the gamecube

Shiina also is still doing Code Vein and presumably will be doing any future God Eater games if/when they happen.

Hey folks, my experience with Tales game is very minimal, I played Abyss and Vesperia yrs ago, decided to give Berseria a try after all the praise it got from the community but I have a few questions.

1. I am super early into the game, but the combat mechanics already feel kinda...extensive, how do I figure it out? I have some kind of stamina meter and it gets used after you do combos, I power up Velvet with the trigger to extend combos, but I am not sure why I woulnd't want to use it every time it is available, the game seems to encourage dodging but telegraphing enemy attacks seems like a waste, can I get some tips? aka how do I "get gud"

2. Whats up with the equipment percentage mastery? I am encouraged to change my equipment (and title) every time I reach 100%?

Assuming that you are using Velvet.
Check your combo strings. They indicate an specific kind of enemy that they are more effective and some have also one or two elements. When selecting an enemy you can see their race and elemental strengths and weaknesses. If you find that your combos are bad for a specific enemy you can pause and modify it in the middle of an encounter

So... Gonna play my first tales game. I have Vesperia and Berseria sitting in front of me. Which should I play first? I've heard amazing things about them both.

Always release order imo, so Vesperia first.

Going from a newer Tales game to an older one can be jarring because they'll be missing a lot of quality of life features.

The blue diamonds are your souls, you need 4 of them to do a 4 hit combo. You gain them from killing or stunning enemies and using mystic artes.

Using a break soul uses one of them up but lets you extend a combo beyond 4 hits (which you'll need to do later to do the level 2 mystic artes). They're different for every character, in Velvets case I'd just use it every time you get 4 souls, you nearly always get at least one back from the break combo

With the equipment you permanently learn the top skill in the list when you master it. It takes too long though and you'll never master everything on a normal playthrough, I wouldn't bother with the ones that need huge amounts

It's pretty easy if you play on higher difficulties and regularly run into dire beasts. I think I mastered pretty much everything on my playthrough.

I started Tales of Xillia this week. It really hits the spot. Just the right amount of dialogue and a nice, linear adventure. So far, it's been rather easy, despite me having little idea of how combat truly works. I just donate every item that's worth 2x value and buy the latest gear at every shop.

This is essentially my first Tales game if we ignore the 8-10 hours I put into Destiny on the PSone about ten years ago. I have had Xillia sitting around for years, waiting for the right moment. I've been playing a series of Japanese games this year, so now was the time.

I love Xillia. I even got the Plat for it which took like 3 plays of the game. Its not super stellar and it's flawed but it's just a very comfortable game to play.

I've been wanting to play this these past couple days. I really wish there was some other way of playing them that didn't involve getting a PS3 out and playing it there. Would love for them to come over to PS4, but I kinda doubt that will happen.

Been watching Tales of Zestiria the X myself and I gotta admit it's making me consider giving Zestiria another shot. Wasn't a big fan of Zestiria despite loving Berseria, but I think I'm gonna give it another go very soon.

Xillia is fantastic, i wasn't quite as impressed with the sequel though

Here is a tip: the PS3 and PS4 use the exact same power cable. It is very easy to swap them quickly just by swapping the cables from one to the other. I did this briefly until I bought a receiver.

oh I know this and it's nice I just really dislike using the PS3. For starters if I want to use it I would have to remove my PS4 and the second thing is after getting used to the PS4 UI and controller it's hard to go back. I am aware that on PS3 some games support the DS4, but from my understanding it's not all of them.

Also just an FYI I switched to a PS4 Pro about a year ago and unfortunately it uses a different power cable. The Pro cable is very much akin to the power cable you would see for a desktop with the 3 prongs.

I keep both connected to my main TV. I was rather late to the PS3, so I still have plenty of games I intend to play. I try to alternate between the two systems. I finished blue reflection (PS4), then played last of us (PS3), then nights of azure (PS4) and back to PS3 for Xillia.

Yeah I got on the PS3 train pretty late as well. Missed out on a lot of games. Honestly I shouldn't have gotten a PS4 as early as I did mostly because I knew this would happen. Probably won't be making that same mistake again.

I bought a PS Now subscription and while it's not bad it's missing a lot of games from specific publishers probably because the publishers didn't want their games on the service.

Makes me really wish the PS4 had backwards compatibility with PS3 games.

Good choice. Xillia was my 2nd Tales game, bought a PS3 just to play it. It's still my favorite one after having played most of the rest.

Hey guys, casual Tales fan here.

Is Tales of Zestiria worth going back to? I've been waiting to pick up Berseria, but I never finished Zestira. I enjoyed what I played of it, but I fell off after ~10 hours or so because other games came out. I only just remembered it existed lol.

I've played Symphonia, Vesperia, and ~half of both Abyss and Xillia if that informs any opinions.

I stopped playing Zestiria (swamp area after the desert) last year when Splatoon 2 came out and I plan to get back to it soon, but I have kind of forgotten how the equipment/skill system works and that's the reason why I'm delaying my playthrough :P
I like the world/characters/story [so far], music and the Fusionic Chain LMBS... but that skill system was really unnecessary.

About to start a new playthrough of Berseria and browsing the DLC. It's a rotten shame you can't buy individual outfits. Eizen looks pretty good in his professor outfit, but not good enough to dish out €5,99 for. At the very least it and the other costume packs are half price until January 20, which was a nice surprise. Can't play this game without honest-to-God pirate costumes, after all.
