So I'm having a bit of a problem w my pc being hooked up to my x900e. I can't seem to get hdr to turn on with 4k, only 1080 (not even 1440 or any other resolution). I'm coming out of an HDMI (even bought a new 'certified' one to make sure) from an rx480. It's hooked up to HDMI 3 which, I believe, is one of 2 hdmi ports that support full bandwidth (2 and 3). I try flipping on HDR in w10 and it just reverts back immediately. In the radeon tool, it only lists the ability to send 8 bit color to the tv. Is this just an HDMi limitation? an rx480? windows 10? Not even sure where to start I cant seem to find info on this easily.
IIRC, this happens to me if I'm using RGB color. Need to be in YCbCr for HDR to work in 4k. Has something to do with bandwidth limitations. I also have an Nvidia gpu so I don't what the equivalent settings to change for AMD are

Please A/V ERApeeps!
Also I am interested in buying a projector that can create a large screen in a short distance and has an awesome display...thoughts or any direction?

That's a hell of a deal on a P series. You won't find a better tv at even close to that price.

yeah the problem is in the amd utility, it's already on ycbcr, but also won't let me change the chroma subsampling anyways to like 422 or 420, it's jut like grayed out. At this point I'm starting to suspect it's just an AMD thing, as I bought a new cable, and the tv seems fine unless there's some hidden option in there for this.

I know some X800D peeps still in here and I don't want to go back to the 'other place' but I still have the original YouTube app. The one that allows me to pick 2160p at will etc. Have they fixed that yet with the new versions that you can't select?

I regret downloading the google assistant app because it has ruined voice search in apps now. Before I could click voice search on my remote and it woudl start search in youtube only. Now it is googles bullshit system wide assistant which pulls up results from everything. I habe to physically button over to the magnifying glass for it to start only in YouTube etc.

How common are dead pixels on 55" sets? I have one on the upper right side of mine. Everything else is perfect and Im not sure if I should go through with an exchange and risk getting a set with worse problems.

Don't you need a 80+ screen to even see the benefits of 8k?
Depends on how everything is set up but generally I'd say that for a TV 4K make sense starting with ~50" and for 8K the same room would need a TV of ~100" to really show some benefit to a viewer (over a 4K 100" TV of course). This size is way too big for many rooms out there though so I'm expecting that 8K's uptake will be significantly slower that that of 4K - which wasn't very fast either.

PC input + ISF Bright on 2017 OLED is so, so good! After having suffered through Game Mode with wrong colour gamut on my E6 for a year, I'm finally satisfied with the image for SDR gaming.

SDR game settings, for those who are interested:

Input: PC
Picture mode: ISF Bright

OLED light: 50 (adjust to your own liking)
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 51 (your black point could differ by one or two points - adjust accordingly)
Colour: 50
Sharpness: 10
Gamma: 2.2
Colour temperature: Warm 2

Everything else off.

Pretty much my settings, except I use Warm 1 and brightness just at default 50. Also OLED light at 80. I just use the HDMI icon for convenience with HDR and I don't feel much difference with lag.

Shouldn't the contrast be at 100?
I'm using the game mode for SDR content and I'm happy. I'll try your settings.

If your output is 4K, that's 63 ms input lag - that's quite high! Good for you if you can't tell, though!

Having to switch between PC and HDMI is inconvenient, but I can live with it.

Contrast should only be set to 100 with HDR content. Over 85 (or thereabouts) clips whites, and you'll lose detail, in SDR.

Do not do that, df youtube vidéos are busted on my C7. Very washed out and no accurate colors.
I tested the free 4k hdr sample they gifted, and there's no issue. You shouldn't test your Hdr settings with df hdr YouTube videos.

Gamersyde have some hdr videos you can download.

What free sample? I've been using a 4K/HDR channel to calibrate instead. They have some amazing videos of nature and various cities. DF def looks fine for the most part.

Also, there are so many YT channels with no HDR even tho they said they did.

Just a quick update: After getting a 55" C7, I picked up a 65" 900E on Black Friday. After having the 900E for a week, I think I'm going to stay with it. I think the C7 is the better TV, but the jump from 55" to 65" is too amazing to dismiss.

I'd love to jump to a 65" C7, but that's just more than I want to spend on a TV right now (it's listed at $2700). I think I'm going to be jealous of the OLED crowd for a few more years. My hope is to upgrade to a 65" or greater OLED in a few years once prices have come down and the tech has matured.

It's a problem with th firmware you running. I just manually updated my TV to 4.70.30 and suddenly DF's HDR videos look phenomenal and full of color, whereas before they were a washed-out mess.

Any ks8000 owners here? Trying to figure out why with HDR on in horizon zero dawn and the settings from that thread in the old forum, everything keeps getting darker and brighter depending on where I look. Really strains my eyes badly lol.

Don't have this issue with any other HDR ps4p game weirdly enough. Feel like its some setting...

That's how Smart LED works, maybe you notice this only on Horizon because HDR in this game is very aggressive and lights up screen more?

That doesn't make any sense. You are as likely to get retention issues on any Sony or Panny OLED.

I was referring to the issue with HDR Game Mode on the LG sets, but I've since realized it wouldn't actually pose a problem if I keep the console inputs for gaming only, not video content - that would run through a Roku or webOS apps. I wanted to avoid switching Game Mode on and off as I switched between content, but this is probably very rare for most people.

Is there any precedent for panels coming with elements "burned-in" like this? If I can't scrub it out with varied content and consistent pixel refresher cycles, I'm contemplating replacing it, but that sounds like a nightmare, having to box everything up and return it all to Best Buy. Does anyone know if Best Buy will come to your home with a replacement set and let you do the replacement there? I've got a 5-year extended warranty with them for the set.

Yes they will. I just bought a B7 with a 5 year warranty and I spent considerable time making sure I understood their policy. They'll send someone out. If it can't be fixed, they'll replace it. If they send someone out for the same thing 3 times, they'll replace it instead of keep dealing with the same problem. Don't risk taking it back to them because you risk damaging those delicate sets.

Certainly possible, but shouldn't be that common. I'd get a replacement. Shouldn't have to go through a bunch of sets to get one without dead pixels. You paid for the TV, you shouldn't have to put up with a defect.

The TV updated this morning and youtube videos are good now.

Tried your settings and the image is washed out, the gamma is too low. Loading screens in games are Grey instead of black.

Edit: I understood why. When switching to pc mode, I need to change the rgb range of the console...
It's not easy to do direct comparison on the Wii U, I have to reboot the game to change the setting.
I'm dumb, I just have to set the black level to low and it's fine now.

So the 900 seems to have 3x more input lag of the TCL, in the 30s.
I don't know how my current tv compares, but are gamers here happy with that input performance?

I would say yes. Anything sub 50 ms is pretty great for televisions. Would be nesr impossible to really tell the difference between something low teens ms input lag and something 20ms or 30 ms or even 40+ ms. It was the 60+ ms input lags where you could have issues especially with 2player or multiplayer games. But even then, last year so many people were okay playing 4K+ HDR games at 60 ms plus with their LG 6 series OLED before LG's update.

As a gamer, lowest input lag matters. As a movie watcher maybe better color accuracy and nit brightness matters etc.

Thanks for the answers. The TCL 12 vs Sony 35 was eye opening in gaming mode.

I am trying to imagine an extra 4-4.5 diagonal inches over a 60.
Any great value/picture sets in 70? :D

Damn it, my friend accidently updated my LG C6. Tried a game yesterday in HDR Game mode and couldn't see anything it was so dark.
Is there a handy FAQ on doing the downgrade?

How import is Dolby Vision? I see a lot of sets supporting HDR10, but not all with Vision.

Vision can bring some extra oomph to the colors, but realistically sets equipped with it right now can't properly utilize it. (From what I've researched.)

My LG OLED C7 supports Dolby Vision, as well as Dolby Atmos, but I doubt I will use any of that... Not going to spend $600 on a soundbar from LG that supports Atmos.... no idea how they would emulate sound coming from my ceiling when there are no speakers in it...

No idea about which soundbar you're talking about but they usually do it through upfiring speakers.

I went from a gaming monitor that had a 1 millisecond response time to the Sony 900e. And I noticed no difference between the two. So don't let input lag scare you away.

On my LG C6 OLED I've got a white vertical line that runs down the entire screen a bit right of center. It shows up on a white or light background on dark backgrounds I can't see it. Called LG and they referred me to a local repairman. He's out this week but on the phone mentioned that I'd probably need a new panel and he would have to work on it at his shop so I'll be away from the TV for a bit. Just bought it in Feb so glad it's under warranty but now I'll have a refurbished TV instead of new so a little disappointing.

I did watch Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in 3D this weekend and it was amazing in 3D.

The 900E looks live the way to go. But on YouTube there are reports its bricking, and it has a huge and hot power adapter?

It's $1500 at bestbuy, and chase pay would return 10%.

Wait for the next sale. It was $999 on Black Friday and I had a local retailer price match and more and I got it for $865.

Don't pay non sale prices.

He might just be referring to some of the content that has as high as 4000 nits. Which no TV can display yet. Replace "properly" with "fully".

Yeah, but that goes for HDR10 and every other HDR format. Current TVs aren't able to fully reproduce the 4000 nits that *some* content is mastered in, but DV does a better job at it than HDR10 at least.
