So the 900 seems to have 3x more input lag of the TCL, in the 30s.
I don't know how my current tv compares, but are gamers here happy with that input performance?
Pretty sure it's more like 2x as long as you're in game mode. Or are you talking about menus and stuff? Either way my 900 is just fine for gaming. I could honestly only see it ever being a problem if you're using it for a computer monitor/kbm set up.

The 900E looks live the way to go. But on YouTube there are reports its bricking, and it has a huge and hot power adapter?

It's $1500 at bestbuy, and chase pay would return 10%.

Eh, I really don't think bricking is a widespread problem. And the power brick is pretty huge, but not really that hot. Honestly it's helped me out since tv power cables tend to be way too short, this one adds the length I needed to wall mount it.

Also you can get refunded if it goes on sale later with Chase price rewinding right?

So I am planning to buy a OLED 4k TV, still undecided between 55 and 65 inches. I measured the distance , and I will sit around 7.5 to 8 feet away from the wall( will hang the TV on the wall).

Is 55 inches more comfortable for gaming and movies ? Or should I go big ? I know there is a chart in the op, but wondering if somebody has the same set up. It is a small room, no windows and dark . 10x 1w feet, viewing distance around 7 to 8 feet

Definitely go with the bigger panel.

That's a super hefty price difference between a 55 and 75inch OLED. If you have the money obviously the 75 but a 55 would be fine too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroLED

Unlike OLED, mLED is based on conventional GaN LED technology, which offers far higher total brightness than OLED products, as much as 30 times, as well as higher efficiency in terms of lux/W

https://www.ledinside.com/news/2017...micro_led_to_escape_plight_of_poor_qled_sales

OLED patent holder Samsung Electronics now also steps into the realm of Micro LED, reported the Investor. It is also looking to acquire PlayNitride, a Taiwan-based Micro LED developer in an attempt to offset the sluggish sales of its QLED TVs.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/blockbuster-150-inch-samsung-micro-led-ces-2018-reveal-3342003

ZDNet notes that the firm has condensed the technology found in its jaw-dropping 34-foot 4K HDR LED Cinema Screen to make the Micro LED TV a more viable – and affordable – option for the lucrative home theatre market. So will it be one of the best value Samsung 4K TVs next year?

Developing a Micro LED panel is an intricate process, said Samsung when it demonstrated its first 55-inch Micro LED TV back in 2012. Each LED acts as an individual pixel and mass-producing them is no easy feat, it added.

The main benefit of using a Micro LED display is that it won't suffer from the same burn-in issue as a comparable OLED screen. It also consumes a lot less power and radiates a lower amount of heat, according to Samsung.

Interesting news/read, it's not going to replace OLED in the next few years, but Samsung is banking hard on it.

Sorry, I meant 65 inches. Lol. I don't think they have a 75 inches OLED.

So 65 won't be too big for a 7 feet viewing distance ?

I don't think the 65" is too big for a 7 foot viewing distance. I have a 55" B6 in my bedroom and sit within a few feet of it for gaming lol.

And yeah, LG has some 77" OLED panels that run somewhere around $15,000.

Going from a 50 inch to 65 has been a monumental change in viewing habits. I can actually sit on my couch and not feel like I need to get closer to the tv.

And somehow, I managed to sell my old 50 inch last night. Didn't think there'd be a market for it, but the buyer is a big 3D movie enthusiast and said they're not making 3D tvs anymore.

Haven't really been happy with cable TV viewing on my OLED. I finally turned on 720p instead of simply 1080i. Looks much cleaner now. Then I realized how sad it is that cable TV still outputs at low ass resolutions.

I look at how much sheer money the NFL makes and shake my head that they give some shitty ass low bitrate 720p/1080i broadcasts...

On a sidenote, updated my launch X800D youtube app to the latest version. Lost the ability to force resolutions much like you can choose in twitch so have to wait or pause the video sometimes for 4K to reach but very identical to the Tizen OS Samsung version of the app. They removed the Live bar for live channels as well.

I love the X800D for the room, the 65" KS8000 for the living room, but I think next year depending on what CES shows, I may look at 70" OLED or something for a dedicated theatre room.

I have not. All of my big claims have been 500$ so never even had the opportunity. I've never done Cliffdeals myself but I don't know why they wouldn't. I found this site that is a direct rip off of Best Buy and still get price matches to go through. It literally even has a BestBuy app popup on mobile. www.textechstore.com

Ebuyusa and cliffdeals.com have consistently had the lowest prices on TVs whenever I've looked. Buy the tv from a legit place like bhphotovideo and also save on tax for us Californians

Just out of curiousity, how long does typically take them to refund you the money? They said claim paid for $300 on my LG B7A, but I haven't seen the money subtracted from my statement or credited to me yet.

Any experienced x900e / xe9005 users here? I am in the following pickle.

So I'd like to use internal Sony Android TV apps as much as I can, at least for Kodi, Youtube and Netflix. Both have YT and Netflix have HDR-capable series, but for some reason the Smart TV Youtube app cannot output HDR. No idea if that fix ever comes. The problem with Kodi is that apparently the Smart TV Kodi app cannot handle Dolby Audio over Optical. No problem now as I use internal audio, but it will be once I add a receiver and speakers. The last problem is that the TV only handles 100mbit over wired. It can get more over wifi, but nowhere close to 1 gigabit network.

Now I can use an Nvidia Shield TV and fix all of these issues, but the Nvidia can only output on one resolution - either 1080p or 4k. Downscaling/upscaling is best left to the tv, but that doesn't work when the Nvidia is set to 4k but streams 1080p content. When using the Shield, then the Shield will handle down/upscaling. I also like to have a neat solution, as in all apps internal to the TV, as it's better for my girlfriend to understand. Last, it's less of a hassle with remotes if I keep it internal.

Anyone encountering the same things I am encountering? What was your solution?

I'm very happy, but also a bit dissapointed. The image, is great, the blacks/dark scenes are better than ever. But overall, the HDR in gaming feels like a step down from my KS8000. The auto dimming, and general brightness while leave me wanting. Sometimes it looks great, other times its just too dim and it loses a lot of vibrancy when the brightness reduces.

I know it took me a while to home in on settings I really liked on my KS8000 though, so maybe I just need to spend some more time with it.

Yeah tbh the apps for the most part really suck. Bizarre that Google's own YouTube app isn't updated on an Android TV. But themselves the breaks. It's serving me well for now but it was definitely a shock to me that is eventually have to buy another device to use the same apps that are on my TV if I really want the most out of my TV.

I'd imagine that eventually there'll be updated apps, but no idea what the timeline on that is or if the updates to the tv go by the wayside after it's a year and a half or so old. Who knows.

I think you're stuck having to fiddle with the shield if you want the best quality unfortunately.

Fuck OLED, seriously. And fuck HDR. It has ruined everything else for me. Classic case of "there is no way back".

After I've been playing ACO for a few weeks I yesterday popped in Battlefield 4 on PC to test my new headphones. Though graphically still a stunning game, it just looks so washed out and bleach now on my PC monitor - and I own a pretty good Gsync monitor. :(

Dang it guys. Now I'm already thinking about getting a 4k+HDR+Gsync monitor. Problem is, there ain't none... Next year there are supposed to be released some, right?

But seriously, HDR is there biggest game changer for me since HD. The difference is mind boggling.

Think good about what you're doing folks. It's really hard to go back. ;)

Obviously this is not important at all but I've seen two people with this box for the B7 now. Is that what the B7 comes in in the US? Mine came in a black box with colour pictures and everything on the side. Lol. Just looks a little plain for a relatively premium bit of tech.

So Rise of the Tomb Raider on the One X has been my primary source of content on the OLED recently and it really does look fantastic most of the time, but I have noticed sometimes that certain areas just get a little too dark looking when the HDR is in full force. Most notably there are some sections fairly early on where you're in a Russian base and there is very little lighting inside the buildings but you get this very harsh, cold sunlight pouring in through the windows. The effect is striking but it's also made it quite hard on a couple of occasions to pick out where the enemies are in the damn building because the interiors become so dark.

I did switch from HDR game mode to Standard HDR mode in that building after completing the combat section and the interior was notably less dark and easier to pick things out in. The HDR game mode is a weird one. When I'm playing in it exclusively, I'm very happy with the picture 99% of the time, slightly too dark sections as mentioned above notwithstanding. But if I switch to the standard mode halfway through a session to compare, I'm suddenly quite disappointed in how the HDR game mode looks by comparison.

Yep, mine was the same type of box. It's from Crutchfield which is an online retailer so they probably made these boxes for shops that don't need to have them on display in some retail space. Probably saves them printing costs. I saw unboxings with a different box and thought mine had a second box underneath.

It appears so, that's the box that mine came in (U.S here)

Are you using HDR game mode? If so, use Technicolor expert and set dynamic contrast to low. Turn off any noise reduction. Should be good to go.

Any good recommendations for a 4K Blu Ray player? The XBox One X is too expensive, and I hear the S isn't the greatest player. UK based.

Yea, I did set it to Dynamic low. I think I just need to get around to calibration, and finding a good sweet spot for brightness without constant dimming etc. Someone recommended 35. But that's just too dim for my personal tastes coming from a really bright set.

Won't Technicolor expert change me off of game mode though? Or have I just been dumb, and it's entirely based on the input type?

Yes, Technicolor expert will take you out of game mode.

Game mode means all the panel processing and optimizations are disabled so game mode will always be a compromise from that perspective. You'll have to pick between low input lag vs optimal PQ.

You might find a compromise but for me, PQ was top priority so I play all games in calibrated modes instead of game mode. Maybe if I was playing twitch shooters or was still doing competitive online game, I'd pick the lower input lag but especially for HDR gaming, game mode is quite poor compared to the other HDR modes.

Dynamic contrast in game mode doesn't turn on Active HDR as it does in other modes. All it does is perform the same function that Dynamic Contrast does in SDR mode. I know it's confusing...

Probably best to save Game mode for online MP competive games where PQ isn't as important. Really no point in sacrificing visual quality for SP games unless it's a twitch shooter or platformer and you notice lag.

Do you need Dolby Vision? If not the Sony UBP-X800 is a good player.

DV supported players are coming in a few months.

Yup, I'm using this player and PQ is gorgeous and the player runs fast. I can always upgrade to a Dolby Vision version in the future.

No I'm aware of that, but it's has a byproduct of slightly increasing the image brightness when in game mode, even though it's not changing based on metadata. That's the only reason I'm using it. It's just preference.

The input lag is enough to bother me. I've been a PC gamer for a good while now so that in conjunction with just a general susceptible-ness to input lag makes it almost untenable for me. I really start to feel it at around 40ms sub 20 I don't notice it as much.

Lot of people seem to think though that panel optimization is not that good either esp on OLEDs that look great without anything, I remember Vincent mentioning that as movie purist he likes to turn everything off in any case.
