Yep, less updates and an actual promotional team is what this game desperately needed. Teaming with Deep Silver is definitely a good thing.
Why do Sega always do so little instead of doing the big and just announcing Shenmue HD if it's happening.
Grateful for a tour guide though, if anyone is interested in that.
What's everyone's thoughts on the latest update? I've been waiting for that kind of transparency from this game. Good sign.
Hey Ghost! Thanks for the kind comments! Me and Spags work together on the Shenmue Lounge so I talk to him every day. I will check again, but I think he has been having some trouble getting his account here sorted. I will see what's going on.
Unfortunately yep, as much as we want to see HD, it is a business. To make money. Sega know this and I'd say they just want to capitalise on Shenmue 3 sales, as well as HD sales, so releasing them close together makes sense to maximise public awareness, which translates to profit. From what I have heard from reliable sources, the rumors are true, and the games do exist. But even I have trouble on a daily basis wondering why they are just "sitting around" somewhere, when they could be out in the wild and making a steady stream of income. But, Sega....
I hope the HD collection happens no matter what, but I wish for Sega to follow through and give us something that preserves the legacy as it deserves.
These are the things I feel the remaster project NEEDS:
- Dual audio - Many of us have fond memories playing the games in different languages.
- Bring over II's gameplay improvements - Features such as time skip would improve the pacing of Chapter 1.
- Persistent save file - Allows to continue with your Shenmue save file in II: experience, money, items etc.
- Uncompressed audio - Yeah... nobody appreciates low bitrate audio.
- 16:9 widescreen support - The once major glitches that existed with forcing widescreenhave now been eliminated.
- Improved controls - Dual analog stick support should be a given.
- Improved draw distance - Would make it more immersive to not have NPCs or environments jarringly pop in.
- Improved load times - Shenmue fans we're very patient, but why make us wait longer than we have to?
- Full HD textures - I would hope cleaned up textures would go without saying, but there's a LOT of them.
- Shenmue Passport in its entirety - Cause, we want it all to be preserved.
- Physical release - Old-school fans want a physical version containing both games to OWN alongside Shenmue III.
Who would care about implementing all of these though? Who willl Sega choose (or have chosen) to take on the responsibility? Bluepoint is the best example I would give, but they are busy on another big project, and the guy who made the fan project in the video below is now working on Shenmue III.
I want one of these badly. I'll have to give eBay a shot, I suppose.Great to see Segas official Twitter promote a newly released Shenmue themed Yokosuka guide book.
Released on the 3rd, ironically. More information can be found here:

It's annoying because I was in Yokosuka and made a trip to Dobuita earlier this year!
I'm hesitant to even hope for some of quirks I want the new game to have. I mean, I could certainly list things, but at the same time, we've had so many years to obsess over the first games that I'm worried such quirks would feel shoehorned in and fan servicey. Like, I was always drawn towards the first games somber tone and gloomy look and would love to see that continue as very few games capture that feel even to this day, but for all I know Yu's intention was always to move on from that into more vibrant looking environments.Honestly Shenmue III still does not seem real to me somehow. I think I will not fully accept it is coming until I am actually in the end credits of the game, haha.
Anyways, what are some specific quirks from past games you guys want to see brought to Shenmue III that might be lost due to being 'outdated'?
For me, I really hope they keep the compartmentalized locations. I really loved how dense everything in the world was and I think a lot of the franchise's charm will be lost if the game is truly open world in the modern sense. To me there is no reason to be able to travel through a whole city when a ton of it would just be empty space you have to trek through constantly, ya know? Plus it would make it so that you could have smaller sections that are aesthetically much more diverse from one another without having to blend them together.
I do too, especially after they released this:I sorta have faith the game will retain the mood considering it's still in the same designer's hands.
Those photos of Yu and the accompanying tweets from Cedric are just lovely and heart warming, as well as hype inducing. The legend making his triumphant return! Also somewhat amazed the game seems to be in such an advanced, playable state. Development must be going well.
As for that news from Sega Europe, I'd like Shenmue 1 and 2 HD, a new Streets of Rage and a new Jet Set Radio please. Those would be exciting.
It's cut content from Shenmue II. They talk about it in one of the early Kickstarter interviews with the dev team. Pretty much it was removed as it didn't fit with the pace of disk 4.Are these pictures actually in-game of a previous playable Shenmue 3? I hope the game we get has this location.
So, it looks like no Shenmue HD announcement at PSX or at all this year?
What's everybody's favourite tracks, including background music, store music, etc?
I like FREE1,5,15, the music when you open your notebook, tomato convenience store. Just a few. Why Ryu rides the Forklift.
