FB3 visuals in all games using it in general are very "hit or miss". It's orientation on high performance first means that it's severely lacking in some more computationally expensive areas, lighting especially.

i find battlefield 1 to be pretty great looking the vast majority of the time. battlefront 2 materials are kind of meh and i dont know wtf they did to the taa. i think battlefront 1 actually looks better when looking at all the levels on avg. almost seems like a B team worked on it or it was shipped unfinished.

the tessellated terrain in particular looks vastly better in bf1

Is that game actually rendering at that resolution? I remember experiencing some problems when I tried taking high-res shots of USF4 a long time ago.
It would take 4K or higher shots, but it was resolution locked and wouldn't render above 1080p.

Yes the game actually able to render at higher resolution, but the assets stay in 720p no matter what. So not much reason to do it actually :p
I only render it at high res to get rid of blur (dunno why its still visible during cutscene or special moves even with DoF menu turned off) also the weird bloom effect that makes char models looked more 'soft'.Comparison 1080p v 4K
I've tried disable the effects via Gedosato but unable to find the shader hash, so higher res it is :p

There are more than enough places where I literally couldn't tell if I'm just playing PS360 game in modern resolution. FB3's lighting is just subpar at this point. They are using essentially the same engine as on PS360 just with more stuff pumped into it. I think that even UE4 is generally looking a lot better than FB3 now.

if by UE4 you mean tech demos id agree. but when it comes to actual games UE4 is meh at best for me. which battlefield 1 places looked like a ps360 game for you?

It's easier to say which places didn't, and that would be the starting area of the first campaign, with foggy forest. The rest were all very uneven, aerial campaign especially felt like a prev gen game most of the times. (Too bad that it was also the best of BF1's mini campaigns IMO.)

MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries - it's hard to take even half decent screens of this game, at least for me, it looks nice enough most of the time but trust me, it's an absolute joy to play regardless to this day. Especially with at least a simple joystick setup.

I don't know if there are any HUD mods since that's its most dated looking aspect or if you can even inject any post processing AA and other goodies since I need to run it via DXWND for it to work properly on the latest Windows 10 Anniversary update.

Since there's no longer a downsampling thread I guess here will do to ask.

Can Unity games that use a launcher to select preset resolutions be overridden by tools like GeDoSaTo for example? One game is only allowing me to set a maximum of 1080p and changing settings such as suggested here don't seem to work (though activating GeDoSaTo at all causes the game to fail to launch).

No clue about GeDoSaTo. Have you tried changing the desktop resolution before running the launcher to see if other resolutions show up?

Oh? After you've looked at all UE4 games that was your conclusion? Hell, even The vanishing of ethan carter redux looks amazing.

it is my conclusion. ethan carter is rather poor looking to me. the game doesnt even have real environment shadows

i didnt even play the campaign but i find most of the multiplayer maps to be pretty great. the terrain is the best ive seen in a game due to the tessellation and the materials are mostly very good. taa is excellent, particles great, post processing great etc
