Heh, good luck with that. My first support ticket was ignored for several weeks and then closed without any type of response (not even a canned message). I thought maybe it was a glitch so I made another one and same thing happened again - several weeks went by and it was closed with no response. That's when I realized they simply don't give a fuck.

Yep. I won't dive into my long story again. But, they literally told me months ago now that my issue was an isolated issue with my theater and their system and they would have it fixed THAT night. Seemed crazy to me they would tell me a glitch would be fixed that quickly. Turns out it was. Months later they haven't fixed it, the app is now a fucking mess for my theater, and they are just completely ignoring me.

I don't think it is that they don't care. I think they don't have the manpower and funds to do shit about it. They are just hoping the price is so good that people will stick around despite whatever issues they are having.

Is it one movie per day or one movie every 24 hours? That is, if I watch a movie at 9PM tonight, can I watch another one at 11AM tomorrow?

Also, what is the best loyalty program out there? I heard regal in Orlando gives you free Universal theme park passes, is that true?

It resets every day. I don't know what time, but some time in the middle of the night. So, yeah, you can go to a movie at night and then again the next morning.

I tired used it on my IPhone X and it just kept loading. And wouldn't check in. My service is fine but the damn thing wouldn't work.

Any one have an issue with iPhone X?

The 100 yards thing isn't as inconvenient as initially though. Got to see Disaster Artist today and will see Shape of Water tomorrow, a film I would have never paid to see without Moviepass.

What do you mean? Were you able to buy tomorrow's ticket while at the theater today?

No, this was just my first time buying a ticket using the card, and not doing an e-ticket via the app. I heard some people complaining that sometimes the 100 yards thing doesn't register where you are and some theaters give you hassle for using the card. Neither happened, and the usage of the app was easier than expected, just use the app in the lobby and use the card to buy the ticket at one of the ticket purchasing machines. Very straightforward is all.

You still have a time limit, so even if I wanted to, I can't buy a ticket an hour in advance, much less a day.

I'm not sure I get it. How does MoviePass know what time or day your actually buying there ticket for? Like if I walk up and tell them to give me a ticket tomorrow and swipe card they can't tell. I also don't see why you can't buy a ticket hours in advance.

Here's how it works with the MoviePass card.

1. Be within 100 yards of the theater you're going to watch the movie at.
2. Open the MoviePass app.
3. Find the theater you're going to watch the movie at on the app.
4. Pick the movie and showtime you want on the app. The showtimes that are grayed out aren't eligible, (3D, DBox, IMAX, XD, etc). Only showtimes for that day are shown.
5. The app will determine if you're 100 yards within reach of the theater using your cell GPS.
6. If you are within 100 yards of the theater, your showtime will be approved. If you're not, it'll tell you to get within 100 yards of the theater first.
7. The amount of money the movie ticket you just picked on the app cost with be transferred to your MoviePass card. The SPECIFIC amount including tax, no more no less.
8. You have 30 minutes to use the MoviePass card to buy the ticket at the theater kiosk. If you don't buy the ticket in that amount of time, the money will be taken out of your MoviePass card account.
9. Buy your ticket and you're good to go. You can refund and reschedule at any time during those 30 minutes if you can't manage to buy your ticket during the time limit.

So yeah, it sounds overly complicated, which what I was afraid of, but the process takes less than 3 minutes.

The reason it's so overly complicated is because the MoviePass card is just a Mastercard debit card. Doing this overly complicated process is to make sure people aren't using the card for general purchases.

The other option is to just buy an e-ticket, which is much easier. Problem with this is that only like a handful of movie chains support this: Goodrich Quality Theaters, B&B, Studio Movie Grill, and MJR Theaters according to the MoviePass website.

None of that tells me why I can't pick a movie for tomorrow night or three hours from the time I buy the ticket.

You can only pick tickets/showtimes the day of on the app. Showtimes for future days don't show up on the app.

I guess you could try going to the theater, buying a ticket for a showing later in the day, and leaving. Haven't personally tested this to see if it works or not.

You can. It's just probably against Moviepass's TOS.

I can understand them frowning against buying a movie ticket for another day, but if they don't want you to buy a ticket that is hours in advance, then they probably should make the app not allow you to select a showing any time during that day and probably make it clear that you can only buy a ticket within a certain time window.

It doesn't matter if you can only pick tickets/showtimes the day of the app. Once you select any showing and you meet the criteria, it allows you to use the card to spend funds. What stops you from telling the clerk or using the kiosk to select a movie time of your choice at that point? The card is just a credit card and has no way to check against what ticket you buy.

You are allowed to buy a ticket for a movie you are going to see that day, as per their rules. It used to be that you can only see a movie once, but I think they changed that, too.

There's nothing stopping you from saying you're going to watch Bad Moms 2 at 3 PM, but then going to an e-kiosk and buying an advance ticket for The Last Jedi. (Just a hypothetical.) As you said, it only functions as a credit card. I don't know how e-ticketing works, though, since none of my theaters support that (so I can't buy a ticket from within the app itself, if that's how it would work).

Ah ok, I was going off the other poster claiming you couldn't buy a ticket an hour in advance and that seemed insane to me.

The rest of it sounds in line with my understanding how it works.

Got it. I got confused when you said you can't do it.

Yeah, day of is only restriction, so after midnight you can buy a ticket for any showing that day.

Thinking of seeing guess who's coming to dinner today. How do movies with commentary work? Do you put on headphones or does the director talk over the movie? I'd rather not hear commentary.

Also, is that movie good?

Damn, I showed up to a movie yesterday and it didn't work (the way I thought it was going to). It was some RSX viewing or something like that, but not 3D. I didn't check the app before I went because I thought the only movies that don't work are 3D.

Now I know to look it up every time. Had to fork out 15 bucks :(

Yeah, it's premium movies that don't work - Imax, RSX, D-Box, whatever. If it costs extra, chances are high MoviePass won't allow it.
I guess the annual sub discount is gone already? Meant to move over but can't find it
Yeah, they only offered that for a couple weeks. I signed up the moment it was available, in theory I should be charged for it in a couple days.

The thing that sucked is that we just picked a time and had no fucking idea it was a different type of showing. :/

Wait, you mean you picked a time in the app, but that time referenced a premium showing but didn't indicate it so naturally it didn't add enough funds to the card and you got declined?

Nah, I should have checked I guess, but I never had this problem before (I thought you can get into any showing that's not IMAX or 3D, or a double feature). My brother looked up the show times online (he doesn't have MP), then I used the app when we got there and realized the showtime is grayed out.

Ah, gotcha. I was wondering if I had to verify that the time shown in the app was a valid showing through some other means to avoid false positives.

I just had my account charged for the $9.95 rather than the annual amount, which was supposed to go into affect this billing period. I'm gonna have to contact customer support about it.

Holy crap, it works. It's bananas that this is a thing. Also the chat customer service in the app is ace. I got my card in the mail and rushed out to the theater only to realize it wasn't activated, but they activated it lickety split in the chat and bam. Got my movie costing 10.42, already broke even for the month

After my movie got out at Midnight, I swung by the kiosk again and bought another ticket, for Thor. Wasn't paying attending an bought it for Thursday, meant to do Tuesday. You can certainly buy tickets in advance. I think as long as its the same time slot and the price is the same, the app has no idea.

I used to have no problems with MoviePass or the app.

Recently the app populates theaters but isn't populating movies and showtimes.

I hadn't used it in awhile so i updated it. Same problem. Went to go see Coco yesterday, never got the movies to load to do the check in. Logged out, logged in. Tried to manage my account. The app says "Next Billing Date Is 11/30/17". I tried to cancel my menbership, it doesn't cancel. I try to update my payment info, it tells me it failed to update the card, try later. I tried to use the website, the website tells me to use the app.

Judging by what people are saying about Support and seeing how there is no phone number I guess this means my MoviePass days are over. It was good while it lasted.

Oh, and I know they were down yesterday, these problems started before and I'm still having the same problems today.

Costco is now selling the annual subs for $90. If you have a membership get it there. If Moviepass goes belly up midway, Costco will have your back.

Yo wait how many points is that?

Edit: damn only Orlando?
60k points, which is 27 movies if you're playing status. Yeah, it seems only for Orlando. You can find the tickets in the Digital Rewards section of the Regal app, but the special ends this weekend. I don't know if they've ever offered them before, but I'm hoping they renew the deal next year.

Just a heads up, Star Wars is releasing on Friday and the last time a major movie came out (Justice League) the app got bombarded and was down for awhile. If you can do e-tickets, I would purchase the ticket shortly after midnight and screen-crap your code for later in case it does go down again.

Plus you get a free Fandor membership (which for most will be just something to have to remember to cancel when the year is up).

Also, if you want to renew your membership with this, you can't. You have to order a new one with a different email address, and when you get the new card cancel your old account. That seems really dumb, I'm not sure if their system is really that unusable or if that's a way to drive up total subscribers.

No, it's their system, it has never supported doing "complicated" things with accounts. Like, if for some reason your card gets canceled, they cannot reopen the account sending you a new card, you need to create a new account with a new email address. I've been a MoviePass member at different points, including before they used cards, and I'm now on my third email address :)

I went to see a movie with a friend last night and I used the kiosk to pay. It was discount day so the tickets were half price. I slid my MoviePass first because I figured only the amount of my ticket would come off of the card, but the entire order completed. Anyone else had this happen? Total accident, but I guess I know for next time.

Also, sidenote, it was a Cinemark theater and there were posters and signs for their Movie Club thing everywhere. Signs on every entrance, a video before the previews started, they are really pushing it hard lol.

App failed for the first time Monday when we went to see Lady Bird - not sure if it was down for others or what, but we are working on ticket refunds. Bit of a concern, for sure, but at least the option exists. And hey, as a kicker, the worker at the theater recommended individual receipts for moviepass refunds because they'd had others in the same boat.
