I'm not sure I get it. How does MoviePass know what time or day your actually buying there ticket for? Like if I walk up and tell them to give me a ticket tomorrow and swipe card they can't tell. I also don't see why you can't buy a ticket hours in advance.
Here's how it works with the MoviePass card.
1. Be within 100 yards of the theater you're going to watch the movie at.
2. Open the MoviePass app.
3. Find the theater you're going to watch the movie at on the app.
4. Pick the movie and showtime you want on the app. The showtimes that are grayed out aren't eligible, (3D, DBox, IMAX, XD, etc). Only showtimes for that day are shown.
5. The app will determine if you're 100 yards within reach of the theater using your cell GPS.
6. If you are within 100 yards of the theater, your showtime will be approved. If you're not, it'll tell you to get within 100 yards of the theater first.
7. The amount of money the movie ticket you just picked on the app cost with be transferred to your MoviePass card. The SPECIFIC amount including tax, no more no less.
8. You have 30 minutes to use the MoviePass card to buy the ticket at the theater kiosk. If you don't buy the ticket in that amount of time, the money will be taken out of your MoviePass card account.
9. Buy your ticket and you're good to go. You can refund and reschedule at any time during those 30 minutes if you can't manage to buy your ticket during the time limit.
So yeah, it sounds overly complicated, which what I was afraid of, but the process takes less than 3 minutes.
The reason it's so overly complicated is because the MoviePass card is just a Mastercard debit card. Doing this overly complicated process is to make sure people aren't using the card for general purchases.
The other option is to just buy an e-ticket, which is much easier. Problem with this is that only like a handful of movie chains support this: Goodrich Quality Theaters, B&B, Studio Movie Grill, and MJR Theaters according to the MoviePass website.
