The Great Dairy State
I'm playing RE7 for the first time now (currently I'm during a certain boss fight right after Lucas' test rooms) and I have very mixed feelings about the game. The puzzles are fun, the atmosphere is great (sans the Saw-like Lucas section - not really fan of that; I want my RE to be zombie/monster oriented, not some torture porn), I love to be finally intrigued by a RE story and it's good to have a major location that you constantly return to.

However, one thing I can say for sure - the fighting/shooting sucks. Ethan is slow as fuck and takes his sweet time responding to button presses: blocking, ducking, healing, reloading; and if someone attacks you during the healing animation - whelp, there goes your healing item. Low FOV makes noticing enemies around you hard. Molded are very dark (black texture all over their body) and usually appear in very dark places, meaning that with the recommended brightness level you can easily miss them (happen to me few times where I only noticed one when he was already attacking me). The hit detection is very... weird, meaning sometimes I can kill a molded with only two shoots to the head with normal handgun bullets, other times it survives two shotgun headshots. :|

And I heard that the last third of the game is mostly a shooting gallery, which, given my opinion on that part of the gameplay, doesn't sound good.
Yep combat is definitely not the focus of this game, best served to create brief moments of intensity rather than in-depth mechanical encounters a-la RE4. Still fun enough tho.

But yeah it gets shootier at the end (though I suppose even classic REs do this pretty similarly toward their finales). That and the impressions I've heard of the DLC releasing tonight is that the game's style doesn't necessitate to high-octane balls-to-the-wall action very well ;p

I completely forgot these were coming out now. RE7 is still my favorite game of the year. Looks like I can download them now on xbox, so about to go do that.

Finished Not a Hero. Not bad for a free DLC.
Still think End of Zoe is better though.

Getting the DLC early let me get #1 on the leaderboards technically lol

Ugh can it be midnight here yet (PST). :x Probably won't be able to play Not a Hero then depending on the download through.

So which DLC should I tackle first? Initially I thought I'd do Not a Hero first, as that was set to release before End of Zoe, but I'd like to play the least disappointing one last, and I'm not sure which that will be.

It isn't too large. I can't quite remember the size, but it's 4-6GB. I think EoZ might be closer to 6.5GB, whereas NaH is 4.5GB (or something close to that).

Wow Jaw, congrats on them number 1's.

I've been thinking about that myself. Like, if Capcom brought it in for quality control than how bad were they? I wonder if the punching was in? Maybe it was added to spice it up.
Iirc, the power fist was originally in Not a Hero before Capcom took it over again.

EoZ was always in-house to my knowledge.

Well it is still going to take me around an 1 1/2 hour to download that heh, so I am going to wait till later in the morning to play.

It's out midnight PST? It's midnight on the east coast and they aren't out yet. ;_;

I guessing it would be the case for steam? I heard that apparently PS4 folks would have to wait till the morning if that the version you have.

Oh hey looks you can download Not a Hero on steam now. You just need to type the name in search to find it and start the download (since it isn't appearing on the RE7 page).

Edit: End of Zoe is up too.

I beat Not a hero on normal and professional. Professional mode was just more of an annoyance and not really difficult. You pretty much just run past everything, and then the last boss is a joke because it gives you so much ammo. I had 80+ shotgun shells at that point.

How do you access Not a Hero and End of Zoe on PS4? I saw one of my friends playing it (currently streaming it and thus ignoring my messages, lol) so it must be out, right?

I paste my experience with Zoe I posted on the Steam community thread:

#3523
Completed End of Zoe. What a joke Capcom charged 15€ for this.
I was expecting a PT-like experience, or at least something with puzzles...you know, something like a Resident Evil game. Instead you get a bad 1 hour piece of content in which there's only melee fights, and they simply suck in my opinion. On Normal you can just go around the enemy, mashing LT and RT and the AI is so stupid it can't react at all, even with multiple enemies, it's a total joke. The plot is honestly garbage too, the location are partially recycled from the main game, when they are not, it's always the same swamp, grass, trees....really, I feel robbed by this garbage. This was supposed to be the strong selling point of the season pass, instead it's just another useless, overpriced piece of content.

Right now i'm just frustrated because both End of Zoe and Not a Hero are nowhere to be found on PSN.

Currently where i live it's about 2:10PM and nothing yet, but it seems that people on the same location already have access to it on Xbox Live. WTF Sony?

You should still get it, because
EoZ follows ending 1. There's also a more satisfying emotional climax.
But you can wait until later, I guess.

NaH was ok, but ehhh. Punching the molded is fun and there's a decent boss fight at the end

EoZ is where I am is already lots better and more interesting. But I'm not done and it feels like it's almost over already. This swamp setting is stuff I thought we'd see more of in the main game back in the marketing lead-up.

I like Joe a rather bit even though I think he fucked up at the beginning

I'm still kinda mad at him for knocking the soldier out and tying him up, then demeaning and threatening him while he's doing his darnedest to help the situation. Then he gets killed off all because Joe's an untrusting idiot :|

On the other hand, PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT

Also, Zoe now looks like a Final Fantasy summon lmao

Wow, Not a Hero was mediocre. Just poorly designed all the way through. As an on-disc epilogue to the main game it would have been a nice extra, but as something that's had anticipation and build up it falls flat.

Hopefully End of Zoe is better.

I was browsing around the RE youtube, and I didn't know this director joined Capcom with RE5, only to get his first directing job right after it with Revelations. That's quite the promotion in such little time; I'm curious to know what his background is. In any case, I thought the first-person mechanic in Revelations was probably the most affecting in terms of horror, and I would sometimes just walk around in it, imagining playing a better game.

On a related note, it seems like NaH and ZoE both take the enemy feedback critiques of Revelations and RE7 to heart, so that's encouraging for the future.

lol

Just playing Not a hero now. Good to be back in RE7. Feels like forever ago I played it.

But, is it just me or does Chris move extremely slowly? Have I just forgotten the walk speed in this game?

I've played about an hour of Not a Hero now, and I think it's OK. I like upgrading your equipment to access new areas (I am massive Metroidvania fan though), but it is kinda bland and the game isn't made for straight up combat scenarios.

Yeah, Chris moves very, very slow, first thing I noticed.

You can adjust the walk speed in the settings. Mine defaulted to 'Very slow'.

I haven't played the game in awhile, but I don't recall that setting when I played RE7 earlier in the year.

Edit:
It might be a VR-only setting though.

If you're on PC, setting the fov to 90 makes it seem a little faster.

Otherwise, yeah. He clomps around. This is most noticeable in the bigger rooms.
