"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." –Mahatma Gandhi

Jesus was a pretty cool dude though. I think he would've enjoyed the irony of this election outcome.

Oh, no doubt. "Judge not lest ye be judged" and here we have a judgmental judge who judges the sins of others why being guilty of sexual misconduct himself! Nothing worse than a hypocrite. It's why I hate Trump so very much... he has an 'attack, never defend' policy that means he takes his own faults and projects them onto others. Sickening stuff and I know America won't learn but at least we can demotivate the people he lied/tricked into believing his bullshit. This is a glorious turn here. Trump, the pedo-defender. Have fun in 2018.

Trying to rationalize this as anything but a legitimate net victory for the Democrats is pure delusion. This energizes the base for 2018 and portrays Trump and Bannon as legitimate losers. A Moore win would have been used by Bannon as a call of arms and sign of invincibility.
yep

congratulations, America. You can sleep sound tonight.

And if McConnell tries to avoid seating Jones before the Tax vote, they'll have to answer for that too. Letting Bannon in the party to start and not excising Moore at all even before his pedophile allegations has fucking screwed them.

Honestly, there wouldn't have been any Bannon without the Tea Party. The minute the GOP embraced THAT and the Koch, the end of their party was nigh.

That said, thank you black voters of Alabama for saving the state (and, potentially, the US -- that senate seat will surely matter in the near future). <3

This really made my day. Black people kicked out the lunatic pedo racists. Their corner of internet must be an interesting place today.

I still can't get over the fact that the President of the United States endorsed a child molester for elected office

I actually agree with you. I was just pointing out why she hasn't switched parties.

Gotcha

We, black people, keep telling them it's a mistake. Maybe they'll listen this time.

Maybe instead of the white working class they can focus on the black working class first and then it'll trickle down to the rest of America

Seriously though, i haven't seen any of this working class rhetoric anywhere in dem circles, certainly not this year in any fashion

Shouldn't Americans achieve higher though? It shouldn't matter what election.

That's debatable, the average American probably couldn't tell you what the three branches of government are and thinks the president makes the laws. 100% turnout with current education standards could very well result in even more Trump, and worse.

But as it stands most people only vote in presidential elections. When reviewing turnout it's best to compare to similar elections. Being a special election, it would be assumed to see even worse turnout than midterms, which themselves are well behind presidential elections.

Conservatives extremely pissed at each other. Civil war perhaps?

Fine by me.

Donald Trump will be an Ozymandias like figure bringing destruction for the greater good. The GOP brand that him and Bannon are pushing will be the end of the GOP as we know it.

The pendulum is swinging the other way. I was so concerned this past week about the possibility of Moore winning and the implications that would have had on American society as a whole. How the FoxNews/Hannity/BreitBart machine would have won yet again and this time with a pedophile. It's stunning to me that Trump actually endorsed Moore, especially since he endorsed Luther Strange in the primary. This is a referendum on the current leadership of the GOP- President Trump and his media wingmen in Steve Bannon and Sean Hannity. They're going to get beat the fuck back next November and I'm confident in saying that after tonight's win. I was not confident in saying that 8 hours ago. What a relief it is.

Any breakdown of how Asians and Latinos voted. I hope my Asian brethrens didn't let me down. I'm not expecting 90+ like African Americans, but please be 75+. Would be an upgrade from 68 nationwide during the presidential election.

"god is in control, and if we win it was part of god's plan, but if you win then you must have usurped god's power somehow"

God is omnipotent, doesn't mean he can always spot the ol' rope-a-dope coming.

I am still amazed this happened. I honestly thought they were gonna vote in moore no matter what after this video

Bama you have pleasantly surprised me.

Jones won't be certified until after Christmas. Tax vote will probably be done by Christmas. Unless taxes get stalled, he won't be able to help there.

That said, I am seeing a mistake by Dems right now. They gotta remember that every Jones voter has a part in this- no one group made this happen tonight, and everyone involved has a seat at the table. If we don't keep working together, good work can be undone- just see what happened last year.

I hope you're right, and I think it's pretty interesting how a lot of old republicans actually warned the current right wing of this problem years ago, but were marginalized. I'd be overjoyed if the party ate it's own tail, but I'm not ready to believe that fear and apathy won't win out the day in the end.

As a passive but worried spectator from across the pond, let me congratulate you. And ask a question. What the hell is wrong with white people in alabama? Thank /insert deity here/ for black voters.

I disagree with your assessment. Spin your argument around and say look at midterm elections of certain years.

I think you're only happy because of the final result, but it could have easily gone the other way considering how close the race was.

You are right. Nearly every social program that helps minorities exponentially helps white folks as well despite what some may think about these programs. You consider the marginalized you consider everyone.

Agreed. The one thing I worry about is Republicans trying to 'get revenge' by making up lies against dems in the upcoming races. I think it's a lock that this will happen in the presidential election. Trump was openly wondering why no one ever accused Obama of sexual abuse (God, trump is so fucking gone he just assumes everyone does it) Even if it's found to be false, it will undermine legit claims. Had the republicans falsely accused Jones, that probably would have created enough doubt to give Moore the win. I hate thinking about it, it feels like dark times are coming.

The sky is falling.

Jones is nowhere near a progressive, not even close... but damn, i can't help but be happy as fuck....this shows some kind of sign when Alabama of all places can actually elect democrats in this era.

This means good things for progressives in the future i hope

Also, yeah the fact that pedophile who believes drive by shootings are the result of public schools teaching evolution is not a in congress is pretty good too, goodness knows we have enough similar minded people in the congress already
Elaborate on this.

out these programs. You consider the marginalized you consider everyone.

Well that's what i don't understand about the derision regarding working class . People seem to care about labels like "white working class" as if everyone else doesn't benefit from having higher standards too when economic and social policy are being addressed. I'm a black male who cares about whether im gonna be able to afford things after my next paycheck. A minimum wage, good education an investment into community helps me more than anyone else by default, cause we are already at the bottom of the ladder.

Elaborate? Jones aint a dude i would have picked at all in a state that wasnt ass backwards, but i can't be choosy about who fights against the abyss now can i. I'm just glad Alabama has some sort of ethical standards to stand up and reject, even if its just by the skin of the teeth.

Woke up to this news.

Thank fuck for that. I was getting a little depressed with the doom mongering here last night.

Now onto 2018 and please remove Trump's majority in the Senate so he can be totally paralyzed until 2018.

Yeah, but per the results and demographics, black folks delivered the win. Had they not been energized and mobilized to the polls, there simply wouldn't have been a win and it's important to single that out. Many of the black organizations on the ground also led a huge non partisan push on the group to get people to the polls in general.

Glad I decided to play Skyrim most of the night and catch these results after the dust settled. So happy, now I can go to bed in peace.
