If you touch an enemy you get into a fight. If you touch an enemy, no matter what direction you or they are facing, while running, then you break formation (essentially a back attack). So basically you need to walk everywhere to prevent that.

(Assuming that's what Aeana is referring to)

She could also be referring to the hidden battle counter which increases the strength of enemies (and bosses) at certain intervals, and the fact that running still counts as a battle, so any time you run from a fight you are actively making the game harder on yourself. Learn to save scum A LOT in this game.

That's part of it. The other part is just how many enemy symbols can be on the screen, and how randomly they move. It gets really difficult to maneuver without fighting, so in the end you are often fighting way more often than you would be if the battles were just random.

I don't have an image from RS2, but I'll illustrate with something from RS1:

What the heck? Tell me it isn't that bad in this version of the game. That looks atrocious.

Minstrel Song is such a good remake. It solved this problem by giving player tactical option through field skills.
I hope RS2 can be successful and someday we get a remake, though I realize this is pretty much just my wishful thinking.

The pricing being so much higher than the mobile version is a little outputting, but the launch discount puts it in an area where I'm okay paying it.

The way the visuals have been scaled up looks nice and for a game that had never been localised before (apart from lasr year's mobile version of this release, natch) I'm pretty happy spending thirty ausland funbux for it. That feels like a fair price for previous unlocalised games being made playable to us.

Now watch me be one of the people that don't jive with SaGa :p

So tempted to just buy this now, but I have like 5 games in my backlog from the past few months. Might just get it anyway.

FF Legends III is the Sagaiest game I've ever played, so I'll have to check this out. Discouraged already by having to grind spells and weapon degradation, but I'm doing it for him.

Not seeing this on NA eshop. Am I missing it? How well, I can check back later I suppose.
Seems like they're going to be lame and actively lock it to midnight PST (at the earliest) rather than EST for PSN and the eShop.

Except for the Xbox/Windows 10 marketplace. Of course it'd be available there first! But seriously if that's the version you want to get go for it.

Just glad to know I'm not crazy. I can hold out a bit longer to play it on the Switch. No big deal. Just wanted to grab it as soon as I could.

Other than the physical controls, this offer nothing over the mobile ports right? I already bought it on Android .. contemplating if I should get it on Vita / Switch..

Indeed. Minstrel Song was fantastic.

Played a few minutes of this yesterday. Looks really nice, I'm glad Square Enix found a way to present SNES games in a way that doesn't completely ruin them. I just wish they would redo the menus for console ports, they look horrible.
Also thought it was kinda funny how they let you name a character, show him/her for a minute and then immediately switch to a whole different group. lol

Achievements are out: https://www.exophase.com/game/romancing-saga-2-xbox/achievements/

How easy are the trophies/achievements and how many playthroughs to get everything?

I want to say 2 playthroughs at least because there are a pair of trophies that I *think* can't be obtained because they require you to make conflicting choices but I could be wrong on that.

There's also a couple of those trophies that require some pretty specific knowledge of the game to obtain so they might not be particularly easy to get on your first go.

So, quick note about the Switch version: It does appear the languages are locked to specific region. I tried to see if the American eShop version was mislabeled and had Japanese language support, and that was a no go.

Thought I'd give this a heads up for those who wanted the Japanese language.

Finished the iOS version months ago and just downloaded the Vita version. Time to take down the Seven Heroes again! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Japanese Vita version didn't have the New Game + option, right? The main menu on the English version has this on the bottom-right corner.

So I take it if I really like The Last Remnant and Final Fantasy II I would also really like this?

Mhm, still not up on PSN?
I see it up myself.

PS4:

PS Vita:
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0082-PCSE01094_00-ROMANCINGSAGA200

And played some on Switch. As I suspected/feared the game does seem to run at 30 FPS, but frankly on modern phone hardware it probably shouldn't have been capped at that even on mobile. Still, even with some scaling ugliness it looks nice undocked, though I might prefer a bilinear filter to cover up the scaling issues or at least make the characters mesh better with the higher detail backgrounds.

Mt. Whatever

Woot, thanks! Must have come online (or at least searchable) in the last 30 minutes or so... It's up on JP-PSN as well with a similar discount.

Edit: Why is the PS4 version like 4X the size of Vita? Uncompressed music? HD Sprites? I'm confused which to get now. :(

I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this game, but I'm definitely checking it out at some point. I gather it's pretty damn hard?

on pc its not full screen and game is tied to monitors refresh rate and its playing in super fast motion

Lmao. Built-in fast forward.

It is. Among all JRPG I've played, SaGa entries probably fill close to half of top 10 hardest game I've ever played.

Just browsing the Steam forum, I can't help about the refresh rate, but there is a full screen mode in the game (and F 11 toggles it).

Playing for a bit, this port seems like a very low effort/budget from Square.
Some of the controls are a bit unintuitive due to them straight porting from mobile version.
For example, to exit party menu you can't press cancel. You have to press the shortcut to open party menu.
This is a bit annoying but I guess it's already a miracle we get this game in English.

Geez lol. I'll have to play it on PC then. Not gonna bust out the cheatengine right away obviously, but just in case...

If you are not familiar with this series and don't use guide, it is very possible you might not be able to beat final boss on 1st playthrough.
I don't know how many games in this series I got stuck somewhere in 1st playthrough and have to restart lol.
Cheatengine is probably a good idea.
