I said it in the last thread and I'll say it again. This album by Naeramarth is pretty awesome. You guys should check it out if you like a little progressive black metal hybrid stuff. Kind of like Ihsahn or Leprous style
Been watching these guys on Youtube. They are into hip hop but somehow got into metal reaction videos and I've really enjoyed what they say. I don't necessarily agree but I can definitely see where they come from on some things. Like they weren't big on Slayer but loved Master of Puppets and Holy Wars which have a lot more musicianship than just blunt force.

This was another unknown band/album that surprised me and I'm liking a lot recently. Band's called DVNE and the album is Asheran. Check it out on Bandcamp. It's kind of like Elder/Mastodon/Baroness sludge metal with a bit of psychedelic prog tinge to it.
Almost through watching the Master of Puppets video and they are great. Love the fresh perspective on a song that I've loved for more than 25 years.
I tend to lean towards post-metal, black metal, stuff with more "atmospheric leanings" within the genre, but glad to see this thread exists and definitely following.
Just got around to listening through Amenra's Mass VI. Love this band and glad to have new material from them.
There has been some good new releases in the past weeks, at least this year until September has been a bit of a letdown to me personally.
New Wolves and Bell Witch are great top contenders for AOTY to me, don't know if people consider Chelsea Wolfe, but she's there for me.. There were great releases this past friday too, new Ne Obliviscaris, Hanging Garden and Bloodred Hourglass are very good.
Even after listening to Gamma Ray; I still prefer Blind Guardian over anything else. First and foremost I can not give enough of Hansi's god-tier vocals. I like Gamma ray but, the lead vocalist is ehhhhh at times he sounds too shrill for me. Could also be I'm a major WoT nerd and fantasy nerd. I dunno I just think they're the best I've heard.
Who's catching Bell Witch / Primitive Man???
In for Memphis, TN show.

Killer. Bell Witch should be legit --- but Primitive Man will do the crushing :) They loud as fuckTrying to hit the Chicago date for sure. I can only imagine how crushing Bell Witch must be in a live setting.
Yeah I'm going next week. It's a co-headlining tour so I'm guessing both bands will play an hour or more (BW playing the new album in full?). Should be brutal.Who's catching Bell Witch / Primitive Man???

From what I'm told, both will have around an hour to play. Bell Witch will not be playing their entire new album/track but a large portion of it -- with the accompanying b&w movie.Yeah I'm going next week. Yeah, I'll be at the Baltimore showWho's catching Bell Witch / Primitive Man???

Finally got around to spinning the new Elder album and...this is some good shit.
Check out the Demons & Wizards self-titled (same singer), and Persuader (BG soundalike), particularly The Hunter and Evolution Purgatory.Even after listening to Gamma Ray; I still prefer Blind Guardian over anything else. You might like Gallowbraid. This is kind of my default recommendation when someone likes Agalloch.Just nabbed Agalloch's The Mantle album this weekend.. amazing stuff
Would love some recommendations for similar sounding bands/albums, perhaps with a bit deeper vocals.
Anyone going to see Opeth on their current tour? November 16th for me in Glasgow, can't wait! Last saw them at the Theatre Royal in London for the 10th anniversay of Ghost Reveries. That was truly special.
I've seen them a few times and honestly the Heritage tour was one of the absolute best times. They played fucking fantastic. I haven't seen them since, though. They came to my home town last year and they were fantastic. It was even fun to see them play their Heritage and onward material, which I'm not a fan of.
im going to that gig! mostly to see enslaved ,kinda hoping both bands play more of their older stuff honestly thoAnyone going to see Opeth on their current tour? Since my other recommendations of random surprising stuff went well, here's my favorite out-of-nowhere release this year. "Skadi" by The Flight of Sleipnir is definitely one of my top 10 albums for the year. Might make it top 5. It's mostly folksy sort of black metal in the vein of like an Agalloch/Pillorian/Deafheaven but with just a tinge of psychedelic sort of early Pink Floydian prog in it. So fucking good.
The cover is probably my favorite of the year, too. So amazing.
Lol whats wrong with Sabaton? :PKreator is coming to town and I'd love to see them
But I'd also have to potentially sit through an hour or two of Sabaton
The two genres of metal I can never get into are Power Metal and Black Metal, though there is a tiny tiny bit of black metal I think is alright, I kinda just hate power metal. So I'm not really looking forward to that. In which case I hope Kreator goes on first so I can just leave afterwards honestly.
