The third game even does this, depending on your dialogue choices. The whole Regicide secondary story with Djikstra is so good.

I've been replaying the game and I'm really noticing how the secondary quests from beginning to end, really develop Geralt's character and I've had fun RPing

The side quests are the best part of the Witcher 3 aside from the Bloody Baron part of the main questline. That and the DLC is also way better than the main story stuff as well.

I was playing Witcher 3 and wondered why Geralt was trying to get into Yennifer's easter basket when he was supposed to not have emotions like a real boy.

I'm not sure if I should expect something good coming out of this, being Netflix and all. Hopefully it's good as I really like The Witcher universe and its characters.

I was playing Witcher 3 and wondered why Geralt was trying to get into Yennifer's easter basket when he was supposed to not have emotions like a real boy.

There is a good part in Blood of Elves, during a conflict between Triss and Geralt, that really touches on the subject of Geralt and his emotions. It's part of what is probably the best story arc of that book, and I wasn't too fond of said book for the most part.

I much prefer the short stories to the full-fledged novels. Ideally, I would want this show having one episode per short story and be done with it. But I got a feeling it's not going to be like that at all. The short stories are amazing, and I'd love to see a live-action performance of it. "Something More" really makes for a good conclusion as it is.

This, im really suprised some people in this thread are so oblivious to his character and how he acts (in the books and theres always an option of choice in the game that is the more in character with him).
It's a bummer that basic character traits of the protagonist have to be explained every few pages in every Witcher thread.
CD Projekt Red really did a number on the public's perception of Geralt with his dull characterization in the first two games and their continued inability to explain the most basic things in the third game.

It would be neat if they changed their mind about Wild Hunt being Geralt's last game because their portrayal of the character got better with each sequel, so, hey, maybe one more game would finally do the trick. Preferably a prequel, to make sense of all the holes in the games' continuity.

...please just be good...
That's all I want. Behind the Dark Tower series, the Witcher books and games are my absolute favorite as far as fantasy goes; and I had to sit and watch Dark Tower get butchered earlier this year. It doesn't need to be amazing or anything. Just don't be awful...

Hmmm they should use a different character than Geralt. We've had his story. But then again, I doubt showrunners would be able to write a better story. Buuutttt maybe they could, I think it would be worth it to take that chance. There is a ton of room to make interesting stories that aren't related to Geralt.

Hopefully it's less serial at first. I've always enjoyed the short stories more than the later books. I think they do a lot of the legwork when it comes to developing the relationships between the characters, too, despite being more disconnected.

The idea of a deep, sexy episodic fantasy series to contrast the plot-heavy stuff sounds awesome.

Give us the Adventures of Geralt of Rivia

I've always been intrigued by the series. I tried the first Witcher on steam but then my PC took a shit and I haven't returned to it since. Can I just find a good and comprehensive YouTube video explaining the books or first two games? I will get W3 for my PS4 eventually so I'd like to catch up first.

If they're putting in The Crown-tier production values and some good talent behind this, it could be fucking epic.

Ugh checking out the writer's twitter, a lot of gamergate trash. Hopefully this doesn't shadow the series.

Jason Momoa?

Josh Holloway?

Holy fuck, dear casting director, do not listen to ERA for casting advice.

No americans please, PLEASE.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would actually work, although I wonder if he'd want to do that - it would pigeon-hole his casting type for the remainder of his career.

Although it would also be a great role, and I think he could bring a lot to it.

And whoever that was that said "but he sucks in sword-fighting scenes", please watch season 1 again, everything after that the dude is SUPPOSED to fight like crap - he lost his freaking fighting hand!

Curious to see who they cast either way, Mads Mikkelsen would definitely work as well, but I'd almost prefer to see a new / less known Scandinavian or Eastern European actor instead.

Tonnes of potential here, but as others have stated, I don't have the MOST faith in Netflix knocking this out of the park - although it 100% depends on who they actually hire to take on the task.

And guys, c'mon... we all know basing any of this series off of a videogame property would be a mistake.

Focus on the source material, ignore the world of videogames - they never translate successfully to film / television and likely never will [maybe I'm forgetting some exceptions or something? happen to be proven wrong, honestly].

Personally I'm more worried about the Amazon LOTR series - GRRM has advanced fantasy storytelling to the point I'm not interested in that kind of story anymore.

Witcher is already more interesting than LOTR and has far more potential to be intriguing in today's climate and with today's storytelling expectations.

Yeah, GOT has kind of ruined a lot of storytelling for me unfortunately. I just can't enjoy character running unscathed through everything as before without it ruining some of my enjoyment of it unfortunately.

I've considered reading the books, but are the english translations really so bad that I shouldn't bother? I'm not proficient enough in any other languages to read them in anything but english.

Is Dudu a polish name? Phoenetically it sounds like American slang for shit. In Witcher3 I'm currently looking for Dudu. :-\

I was talking about before he lost his right hand. Jamie Lannister is supposed to be at least one of the top 3 to 5 best swordfighters in Westeros before he loses his right hand. Nikolaj may have been okay, but he's not good, and he was supposed to be playing one of the best in GoT and Geralt is supposed to be even more impressive. Coming back to when he's fighting with his left hand though, I think it's kind of ridiculous that he looks like the worst swordsman on the planet. I get that he's not a natural lefty but it had become his primary hand at that point, he should still have a masterful understanding of spacing, positioning, and swordfighting concepts/fundamentals that he should still be plenty capable with a sword in his left hand. I mean, I am a lefty and not at all naturally ambidextrous and I've learned to play guitar right handed, learned to play piano which is primarily designed around being right handed, used hand me down right handed golf clubs before I could buy left handed clubs to play. He should be more formidable with a sword in his left hand than Tyrion was with a shield against the hill tribes in season 1.

I must say, I was so looking forward to his sword fight against Brienne in season 2 and that had to be one of the worst sword fights on the show. Yes, I know Jamie wasn't in tip top shape because he was sitting in a pen chained up for a long time but wow.

I hope Netflix goes big with an over 100 million dollar budget for high production values, special effects, and talent.

I'm nervous as hell about this, but hopeful. when it comes to pop culture this is as important to us slavs as black panther is to people of african descent. I hope Netflix knocks it out of the park. It's a shame they can't use videogame material, but fingers crossed they still go to slavic artists for visual designs and music.

People stating that the English translations are unreadable are engaging in hyperbole. At worst, they are serviceable. I'm sure the original Polish is better but the English translations do a great job of conveying the characters' personalities, themes of the story, etc.

Agreed. It needs to stand out visually/audibly and not come across as generic Tolkein/D&D high fantasy.

In the age of Game of Thrones and everything else out there isn't any reason to tone it down. If they can do the source material justice I'll be happy.

Well there is Punisher on Netflix, so in terms of violence it should be ok I think. As for casting, I don't really care since there are many actors out there, especially new ones and not so well know that could really fit for Geralt and the others but Mads Mikkelsen for Geralt would be dope.

Also there is this tweet of her.

I really hope this will be something big like GoT (not really in terms of quality, it should be better) both for netflix (creating shows) and the witcher series.

ps. please have great music like the games.

I like how the well loved computer part could be that she writes in her computer, or that he plays the cdpr games, without going into ire against sapkowski lol

Netflix has a good track record with international content but the Witcher done right should be big budget. Not GoT high budget, but high enough that I'll be a skeptic. But maybe they'll target the US too and justify a $25M/season budget.
