I'm starting to believe that the days of new Resident Evil titles are quickly disappearing, however, instead we'll get bi-yearly HD Remasters of legacy titles (which I'm fine with haha). Ideally, Capcom would go all-in and return to Resident Evil: Outbreak a game well before its time, and an idea/genre that should be returned to given how popular survival and online games are now. But then, I know that's just a pipe dream.

I like you.

Here is the real question.

RE2make, original Claire design or Darkside redesign?

I love the updates to her original and CV(my favorite) designs.

Yeah I don't understand why we haven't gotten Outbreak HD yet.

Outbreak didn't really work as a single player game and came out when hardly anyone used the online, I don't think it even existed in Europe

The Internet
It was available in the UK, but super rare. SOCOM and Outbreak were the only two titles I can remember that had an adapter bundle during my time when I worked the game department at Virgin Megastore. It was released 10/15 years too soon.

Yeah, not only was ahead of its time, but was also ahead of the tech available for us europeans.

I was thinking, so many games came out after the original RE2 back in the day that I hope they include a lot of outfits for Leon, Claire and Ada for us to unlock!

Who am I kidding, considering the climate we live in they'll probably charge us for them

Because both reviewed poorly and the second title bombed hard suggesting dislike of the first.

They charged for all those awesome RE0 alts so I expect them to do the same.

Claire is pretty much the only one who can get away with pink daisy-dukes. But I prefer her Darkside incarnation even more.

The US had the smoking in games ban, plus issues with other scenes and like plebs Capcom just rolled it out to EU too.

The director's cut was meant to be uncensored, with restored scenes and in colour, but an issue with smoking in US caused some screw up and the exact same intro was reused instead of one that only censored smoking. Or so they claimed, but then the dual shock edition is still censored too.

Posted this as a topic on Gaming side, but there's a new trailer for Not a Hero free expansion DLC, though warning contains some spoilers:

The OP has been updated to be a bit more flashy now.
Thanks to BioXCrisis for doing all the photoshop work.
Also I fucked up and erased the rules. So I gotta redo them. Don't be bad until then lol.

One side note, I find it kind of hilarious how they market the two upcoming Resident Evil DLCs. Capcom had a reputation in recent years of having these big super spoiler-y blow-out trailers for Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, Revelations, etc. With Resident Evil 7, they wanted to retain more of the mystery so took a much stronger, 'less is more,' approach.

Then for the Resident Evil 7 DLCs, the action DLC Not a Hero is getting these spoiler-y trailers, while they're showing next to nothing of End of Zoe to retain the mystery.

Just an interesting marketing thing I was kind of chuckling over.

At this point I guess they figure.
"Spoil the shit out of action" and "keep things secret for horror".
I dunno who signed off on that. But I guess it makes some sense

Though PSX is before the release. So I expect a EoZ trailer there.

I wish we were fighting more than just Molded.

A lot will share that sentiment, but this is set immediately after RE7 ending and it'd be a bit weird if Lucas had other enemies he could pull out of his ass that never appeared in RE7. The bright side at least is there is three new types of Molded that weren't in the original game at least (and do actually function quite differently), and as it's Lucas he also has a collection of other threats in his traps and such.

Hey people! I've missed the thread, just came here today.

BTW, I wanted some news about REmake2 but it seems that we will have to wait until PSX...

I played the whole game using BSAA Chris. :(
He looked OK.
I was just surprised he could fit through the doors lol.

Can still have a preference for shorts colour.
I did like the change to jean shorts in DC, to be honest.

Yeah, I guess it makes sense. I noticed there were also big insect things so at least there are those too lol.

Also, I lurked that other place for many years and I always appreciated the amount of effort you put into providing in-depth information and such for this series, so thanks. ^_^

Which parts of the series do you guys get a fright at the most? RE2 probably holds the biggest frights for me, and they both involve breaking glass, it's so sudden and loud, I brace for it every time I do a playthrough.

The first part is right at the start when in Kendos and the zombies break through the glass and eat him, and the second is when the Licker jumps through the one-way glass in the police station interrogation room after you pick up the Rook Plug.

To be honest, outside of the occasional moment I've never found the series too scary outside of my first time playing REmake. I think REmake is just head and shoulders over the others in atmosphere and scary concepts. While I know how to deal with them better now, the first time playing mechanical factor and threat of Crimson Heads does add more power to them for me, and it's helped by a general really strong layer of atmosphere through the whole game as an example. The game just has a really strong atmosphere, a darker gothic feel and sense of mystery than the rest of the series (even when you know the answers that feeling still protrudes the atmosphere, like it's some place stuck in time with dust and horrors within), and then a lot of well executed design decisions that do add to the tension and threat.

To be honest I think after that Resident Evil 2, 3, & 4 are about equal to me in terms of 'scariness'. There's a few moments in each that startle me or are tense, but I don't really feel 'scared' too often in them. I also don't know if this stance is controversial, but I think RE4 is just as scary as RE2 and RE3. Mechanically it isn't scary most of the time, but it has moments where the scariness flairs up. And if I'll be frank, I think some moments like the dogs outside the church/dog hedge maze, your encounter with Verdungo and holding out with him, and being in the dark room with the armor comes to life as Ashley scared me a bit more than most of the scares in those games my first playthrough.

I also realize this needs to sink in for most, but I think RE7 might in my opinion be a bit scarier than most of the franchise, but still far behind REmake. I think there was more moments in RE7 that got me or had me on edge than the other entries. Some of Jack was actually surprisingly scary for me, especially if the difficulty scales him to be right on your tail as you're trying to escape. And I don't think the series put me as on edge as I was for such a long period as I was during the Green House fight and the Attic sections.

Of course, scariness is subjective and all of that. Then there's some oddballs, like I honestly don't think Code Veronica ever scared me, and Zero I don't find to be a scary game mostly, but I actually think the Leech Zombies ended up being like the single scary thing in that game, and they were decently effective at being scary.

I do agree that REmake seems to earnestly try to be more of a horror game than the rest of the series - it's the most actual tension I've felt in any of the games. Mechanics like the Crimson Heads help a lot, and Lisa Trevor is the most potentially disturbing of the series' stalkers with a design that'd be more at home in Silent Hill.

Nothing ever made me feel so uncomfortable, unnerved and scared at the same time than REmake. That sense of dread inside the game is just absurd.

But the thing that always gets me is the complexity and randomness behind the zombies's behaviours. It's such a simple yet effective thing, being tense because you know that at any time they could open a door, on some specific areas (moments) break through the windows, get up again and even transform into Crimson Heads. But as we are talking about specific scenarios...

The Hunter that appears right after Enrico's death always gets me, i get distracted and that fucking toad jumps right into my face, making me lose my shit. Also, the hanging dude from the guest house is something incredible. When i heard the abrupt sound of his body hitting the ground without seeing him, it made me panic so bad. I love moments were you know that something really bad is coming but all you have is it's own horrific sound. We need something alike on RE8 (from the clip that was basically the pitch behind RE7):

The Crimson Heads are very intense to up against, one of my favourite things about the REmake. I wonder if they'll put them in REmake 2.

Also, RE7 did have me on edge for the first hour or so, very unsettling atmosphere.

ReMake 2 has got a lot of ground to cover that's for sure if they are getting inspirations from the first remake. It will definitely need new mechanics and zombies like crimson heads.

Oh, one aside. Dead Aim can be surprisingly scary sometimes. I think part of it is the mixture that Dead Aim is music-less outside of atmospheric ambient sounds most of the time, and the sound design in the game is good with some darkness levels and some absolutely bizarre monsters in some parts of the game. Actually I meant to mention this with my post but I think while I love Resident Evil 2's and 3's soundtracks and wouldn't change them, they don't have the same dark feel as REmake as example and do mostly help to make the games less scary in my opinion (though silence is used especially in RE2 well for a few moments). Dead Aim benefits from having very little music and good sound design despite being a light gun game. Then you have some parts like the B.O.W. disposal plant which just has some bizarre monsters coming at you from the dark. It's not overtly scary, and not quite as scary as I'd place RE7 (which is far behind REmake), but I think it's just as scary as RE2/RE3/RE4, if not more so in some ways (but like thos games, it's more specific scenes I feel).

Yeah REmake is the only horror game to constantly give me anxiety even when I know what's coming.

It also has my personal favourite save room music from the series, I'm a sucker for synth
