So I binged the shit out of the first season on sunday, and I watched episodes 3-7 of season two on monday (Hulu doesnt have the first two episodes sadly).
This show is fantastic. But I do have a question and maybe it was answered when I wasn't paying attention but at the end of the first season
Why did Tahani and Eleanor going to the Bad Place ruin Michael's plan? And why was Shawn so intent on it being Jason and Eleanor?

That was just to cause more conflict between them as a means of torture. I think the idea was always for Bambadjan to come in the last minute pointing out a loophole so things would go back to how they were (he was about to do that when Eleanor figured everything out). Michael was flying by the seat of his pants already because he didn't expect that Eleanor would confess so quickly.

Sad that I binge watched the entire thing last week and have to wait until Spring! I love this show. This and Kevin Probably Saves the World are amazing!

You don't need to wait until the Spring, it comes back January 4th.

Oh cool!

Side note.

I think the big surprise at the end of season 1 was ruined for me.

I started watching it on Netflix and noticed how Micheal's smile was off. That made me start second guessing everything on the show because he looked off there haha

Thanks. I guess I'm still just a little caught up as to why specifically it was Tahani and Eleanor leaving that broke the plan. Maybe it had something to do with the balance of torture.

Thank you so much!

The twist isn't difficult to guess if you know there is a twist coming, nobody expected it because it's not the type of show that has big twists. Many people jokingly suggested it along the way, and if this was a Westworld type show people would have been all over it.

Bump.

I just got into this show the past few days and I'm mad at myself for not checking it out sooner. This is too much fun. 2 episodes into the 2nd season, trying to get caught up before the show returns on Thursday.

Janet is a treasure.

I love that twist

There was stuff that I thought didn't make sense but I just handwaved as it being a sitcom

but man the twist explained everything because they were essentially in a sitcom in hell

Yup, I loved it.

Also Chidi is everyone's favorite character right?

Michael and Janet are my current favorites. Danson contemplating sinister rocks in the first season is too good.

The actress who plays Fake Eleanor has probably the best funniness/screen time ratio, but everyone on the show kills it imo.

Yea they're all great, but the way Chidi reacts to stuff is something else.

Also I love how you still call her Fake Eleanor.

After the season finale last season I think Michael has pulled ahead for me. Evil Michael has been so great for the entire season so far.

Lmao yea he's been great since the reveal.

I'm so stupid excited for Thursday. Marathoned the first 1.5 seasons a month ago and it was the best thing I've watch in a long time.

I liked the first few episodes a lot, but it really fizzled out in the end. You could almost see the writers think "What to do next, what to do next? Hmmm".

If it hasn't already been spoiled for you, I'll just say that you should probably keep watching.

Superstore fills part of the Scrubs and Community shaped holes in my heart. I really enjoy it and I think it's worth checking out. I do think it takes a bit to really find its voice in season one though.

Welp, I'm convinced. I need a new show to binge anyways.

"Maximum Derek!"

amazing as usual. drunk janet (and hungover janet) had me laughing with every single line. d'arcy carden is a miracle. and jason wanting to call the cops...perfect
Was kinda surprised at the lack of teaser into the next ep though—so Shawn said Michael had time to deconstruct the neighborhood and cover things up. But the bad place folks will find out the crew isn't with Mindy very soon, so it's not as if they have unlimited time to goof off/ learn ethics in the abandoned "good place" in order to make it to the real good place. Show has never stuck with a status quo for long though so I'm not worried

Wasn't expecting the "good place" to close up shop and that the humans, and apparently Michael, would get the place all to themselves. Obviously won't last, but it'll be a nice change of pace to see what a guy like Jason could do without any real limitations.

Also, Derek needs to be a regular character on this show. I enjoyed the actor on B99, but his performance here is even better. Maybe he can become besties with Jason and tear some shit up.

I love Derek but he's too volatile and nonsensical to work as a real character unless they change him a lot—much like Pimento on B99. He can only work the way he does now because he comes in short bursts or in highlight episodes. A relevant comment from Schur's AMA today:
...in every show I've ever worked on, there is always one character that the writers come up with, and I have the thought, "This could be really funny, but it's so insane...who the hell is going to be able to play this role?!" That is the Jason Mantzoukas role.

I understand. Hard to keep a guy who says his own name every other word. But JM's intensity and facial expressions are the best and for me, personally, it'd take a lot to have me tire out on him. Though I realize I'm in the minority with that opinion.

Excellent episode. Very curious to see where they take it from here. Usually they end on a cliffhanger, but this almost, almost feels like it could be an end to the series (not a particularly satisfying one, but like if it got cut short and they had to throw something together), so there's not really an indication of where they're going from here.

Loved it when Shawn said to Vicki, "You're not a demon; you're just a jerk." Goes to show that the demons have their own form of morality.

Also loved that Mindy finally got rewarded for all the help she's given over the many iterations. Though I worry that she'll be even worse off when she finishes the cocaine in the duffle bags, what with withdrawal and all.
