It was probably my fault for expecting a movie similar to all Nolan's other non-Batman stuff, but I mostly agree. The "thing" they do in Dunkirk isn't nearly as entertaining as Interstellar and certainly nowhere near the level of Inception. I still thought it was okay, but was definitely underwhelmed.
I have BR preordered also. Did not see in theaters (like 99.9% of the population, apparently, based on box office) but have heard mostly positive things from folks who like the first.
Even if we forget about Nolan's previous work, I think Dunkirk, as a war film, is just lousy. It had no emotional impact on me unlike most other war stories and for that I think Dunkirk has to be Nolan's worst film to date.
Blade Runner however, whew, what a film. What. A. Film.
I hope you've seen the first one.
Be sure to watch the Blade Runner 2049 short films on YouTube first. Necessary viewing before jumping into the film.
I have to do homework? I hope this is included in the Blu-ray.
Blade Runner 2049 is mentally stimulating. It's not a popcorn flick like Transformers. Homework is essential for an understanding of the world they've built and bridges the gap between the first film and 2049.
The short films aren't long, like 3 minutes each I think.
I watched it on the Sony OLED, it was like it was taking place outside the window. It is THE demo for 4K. With The Great Wall being the demo for HDR.Dunkirk was mostly filmed using IMAX cameras, with the rest being shot in 70mm.... it must look insanely good on UHD. I might need to pick up the disc... not the most rewatch-friendly Nolan film, but I'm a sucker for that kind of showcase quality.

Honestly, I thought it was a just fun action movie, it depends on how you normally enjoy these kinds of films I suppose. What I can say is that it is an AV 10/10 though.Nvm, was used. Is this movie really bad? If you told me that you wanted to do a Chinese fantasy movie and it would be starring Matt Damon, I would tell you "maybe don't make that movie. that sounds like a bad premise"
E: reminds me of that bit from Chappelle's show where he's talking about the Last Samurai.
For this one, however, it ultimately comes back around to the color. The increase in depth and tonal accuracy is stunning. Every shade benefits, from the most dazzling blues to the most barren, earthy hue. Detail enjoys a fair uptick in sharpness and definition but the color makes this UHD what it is, definitely one of the best on the market and a reference point for HDR excellence.

And the presence of a white and hispanic character on the wall is explained relatively well FWIW, it's a major plot point.
Go in expecting a dumb action movie and you will have a good time. That bluray.com rating is right on the money as well. It's not as sharp as Dunkirk but the colours will blow you away.Hmmm....

5 star PQ, AQ, an Atmos track AND a 4K DI??
That's definitely worth a shot.

Unless of course they're on the Blu Ray disc.
Are these prologues mentioned here the short films you are talking about? http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=22549

The 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray discs of Blade Runner 2049 will feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead.
So TCL has released info on their P series follow up. It's now TCL 6 Series, looks to be a much nicer design, 65" set option with 120 dimming zones, higher brightness, better colors, etc...
Here is Verge's take:

I won't lie, 65" looks tempting for that likely under $1k price.
Edit: No HDMI 2.1 but then again this is a cheaper set. I was looking at Sony 930e but that's around $2K.
I'm doing 4 in ceilings, but I think you can get modules super cheap (for speakers anyway) from quite a few vendors. I think 200 or less for a pair?I really need to get a couple Atmos speakers since my receiver is Atmos ready.
Vincent is in love, he has seen Sony's 85" 8K 10,000 nits HDR TV
Yeah, it's gonna look sooooo good!I can't wait for next Tuesday with Blade Runner, such a visually stunning movie.
Yeah, I thought it was fun too. I picked up the disc as well since I liked it and thanks to the gushing reviews. Nice.Optoma showed off a $1,499 FauxK projector. That market is going to be REALLY cheap soon. https://www.engadget.com/2018/01/08/optoma-4k-projector-with-alexa/

I've never looked at modules since the ceiling in my living room is so high (~11 feet). I am probably going to get a pair of these: https://www.svsound.com/pages/prime-elevation
SVS make good speakers at reasonable prices, particularly their subwoofers. I've had a couple of their subs, and I run a 5.1 setup with older speaker line in my family room. If you have a showroom/dealer nearby, they are really good with customer service and returning speakers for any reason within 45 I days (I think). If you email them with questions, it's also possible (likely even) that the president will respond with his opinions or advice on your setup.Nice! I feel like I've read positive things about SVS stuff over on AVS
I know man. I legit can't believe this is Sony. Their midrange and up has always looked great. Maybe it looks better irl?

When I was asking questions about speakers for my family room, I sent him a rough room layout and he gave his suggestions on what speakers would work best given it's not a room built to "Dolby reference specs" (like most rooms in your home). He even talked me out of speakers that would be overkill for my room. I would definitely recommend them based on my past experiences with SVS.

Oh man! I just saw David Katzmaier tweet that LG's rollable display accounts for 21:9 content. So, essentially, it top aligns the content and then rolls the screen down part way. 21:9 with no black bars! So cool and smart!
Yep, it's a nice change from the typical retail experience. The first time I ordered a subwoofer from SVS, I placed the order at roughly 5 PM from my office and the local dealer called my wife at home 5 minutes later to ask if we would be home for a delivery the next morning. I hadn't even called to tell my wife I had ordered it yet. That's awesome to hear. I'm huge on companies with fantastic customer service and long term support. Very good to know.

I guess if I do upgrade from a 2013 LED set to a 55" Sony A1 I'll get an appreciable difference, right?
I upgraded from a 2015 Samsung smart tv to the 65inch Sony x930e and I immediately \ noted the difference.Chalk up another one in the fan club. Love this guys quirky humour and passion for the industry. Fabulous stuff. Although I'm not a aficionado even viewing on a SDR TV a subtle difference is viewable. I can imagine the actual difference is very pronounced. A few years away from being mainstream and very expensive, though, I'd have thought.
I'm still using a 40" 2013 LED set and I'm looking at the 55" Sony A1 on the basis of it's stunning design, it's sound technology and the overall view that, although not the absolute brightest, it's a brilliant performer. Perfectly balanced. I was going to upgrade when Gran Turismo Sport released but I thought I'd wait it out to CES 2018 just in-case. As it turns out it still looks the business, better that the Sony A8 for sure and is pretty much £1,300 cheaper than it was when it launched last year.
I'll be hooking up a PS4 Pro.

Cool, but not necessary in a "blacked out" media room. Great for living rooms though.Oh man! I just saw David Katzmaier tweet that LG's rollable display accounts for 21:9 content. what's a USP?As someone going for an interview at Sony tomorrow, I'm struggling with this question that I think will come up...any help greatly appreciated;
"what are the benefits of Sony TVs other other brands?"
Whilst I can appreciate thier TVs and am indeed a big fan of Sony products (I used to always own Sony TVs in the old tube days), I'm struggling to think of any USPs or anything else to answer this question...it's not even like plugging in a PS4 will give advantages!
