Apparently, they just gave them the weapon plus element, then let them loose.

Of course, they also chose artists with a habit for drawing that sort of thing, so...

Yeah also kinda really weird considering that Xenoblade is for the mainstream market and flagship series as nintendos jrpg franchise.
Really sad because this things bring the game really down, constant A&T

A2 isn't fighting in panties, or a bikini, for that matter. Besides residual skirt bits from her former uniform, she's "naked" with her artificial skin layer peeling off from lack of maintenance and spare parts, neither of which a rogue unit on the run receives anymore.

Nah, they had their cake and ate it too. There's a bunch of ways they could've illustrated that she has had a lack of maintenance. Instead they chose the way where her skin peeled off in just the right places, purposely making her look very appealing despite being unkempt. I like the reasoning that she's a fugitive, that she doesn't give a fuck about her appearance. But they could've gone about it a better way nonetheless.

Not the only "naked" fighter, either. Adam only starts dressing to mimic human culture, while both Adam & Eve start without clothing or armour and Eve puts on trousers at most.

This isn't a new counterpoint as far as this thread is concerned, nor does it mean one can't criticize A2's design.

People could be less disingenuous and dismissive for a change.

Or maybe he wasn't being as malicious as you want to see it.

As i'm seeing it in this thread is decided by default that anyone who has a counterpoint or a dissenting opinion is disingenuous or downright malicious, and the replies to that people ranges from dismissive to aggressive. I can't fathom how you fail to see how that hurts the discussion.

I'm pretty sure psychowave's attitude would have earned anyone else a warning at least.

I didn't say it was the only way to design A2, or that you can't criticise it. Just clarifying what was apparently missed by the posters before me.

Then contact a mod about it.

I shouldn't need to do that in first place

I believe this is a dicussion (because yes, it can be a subject of discussion) that can be had without having the kind of answers you're giving. I don't think you're inmune of being called out for some self-moderation, and i don't see the need to call a mod for it.

Really not sure how backseat modding helps. Talk to a mod if you're bothered, implying some sort of inate bias is pretty poor form considering that the ResetEra mods are relentlessly even-handed with regard to enforcing TOS as far as I've seen.

This should be in bold. Be kind and speak kindly. If you're trying to sway a person towards your view point, scolding them or criticizing them is going to do the exact opposite. It'll bring resentment and disinterest, that's just human nature.

-------------------------------------------

I definitely agree that Samus could have a little more bulk in her arms. As far as the wedges that are her built into her suit, I think it can be argued that they serve the purpose of intimidation by adding more inches to her already 6'3" stature. She's in a tough line of a work with being a bounty hunter and all.

But that's how it works. I'm not gonna change my tone just because you don't like it. If you don't wanna contact the mods or if mods don't think it's an issue, I'll keep expressing my thoughts the way I want, and you'll have to deal with it or put me on ignore.

Again, it souldn't work like that, but fine.

I don't want to derail any further, i'll leave it to the mods.

I've said this before, but you could try to be less aggressive for a change.

Don't tone police. Just don't.

Edit: And I see it has degenerated into backseat modding. Just fucking don't, OK? Contact a mod and stop derailing the thread. If you have an issue with moderation and think people have been given preferential treatment, contact the mod team or change forums. Frankly, I'm sick of the same pointless mod bitching popping up every few pages, to say nothing of the ridiculous meltdowns like the one a few pages back.

Stay on topic and ignore / don't engage people if you can't stand their tone. People in this thread have to deal with 10x worse on a daily basis.

I wasn't saying she was wearing a bikini or panties in my post about her. I know about the battle damage I was commenting on why she hasn't repaired it.
Also yes Adam was naked in the game when he was born. They raised the question on why he put on clothes but never really pointed that same question to the rest of the cast so they could find their own answer.

That alrededor has been done, so i'm over with it.

Don't tone police. Just don't.

I'm calling out an abrassive attitude that i think it needs to be called out Because it actually hurts the conversation and the user needs to show some restraint.

However, i'm done with it, i just think that this is something that would blow up in this thread's face sooner or later, and i don't think anyone here is looking for that to happen.

Thoughts on the Zero Suit Samus redesign by MercurySteam?

FSa4Wvi.png

It's a design that for all their effort to try to tone it down from previous depictions, still undermines Samus as a badass space Batman who acomplishes things with superior technology and fighting tactics. The boob socks and the high heels would be a detriment in the situations she finds herself in. A skin tight suit to wear underneath that heavy armor isn't inherently bad and actually makes sense, but for it to just so happen to make her more appealing to look at for dudes makes it obvious the devs and/or Nintendo don't really respect their own character enough to give consistency in her entire design. I like the basis of the idea Dagonkeeper had about the wet suit more.

I.e. the textbook definition of backseat modding, which is against the TOS. If you have an issue with someone's tone, contact a mod. If you desperately need to be the one to tell others how to behave, become a mod on your own forum, or a teacher, or a parent. You have zero authority to police others' tone here.

However, i'm done with it, i just think that this is something that would blow up in this thread's face sooner or later, and i don't think anyone here is looking for that to happen.

The thread has over ten thousand posts and psychowave has been posting from the start, so I don't have a clue what's that "blowing up" doomsday scenario you envision.

Everyone has their own baggage on here. Everyone.

Ah yes, the classic "everyone has problems" argument to dismissing everyone else's or the possibility they might have it worse. Color me surprised to see it paired to its old friend "don't shout about it".

That doesn't justify having an awful attitude towards other users. That's all I have to say about that.

That is already more than was warranted, but OK. For people that insist they are done with the topic, you both sure seem intent in having the last word.

Something I don't get about the heels: is she supposed to be wearing them while inside the Varia Suit? Because that seems awkward as fuck.

I miss Prime 1 Samus tbh. She looked like a regular woman instead of a swimsuit model or something.

Also, I'd love to see another Zero Suit stealth section kind of deal in a new Metroid game, since it'd be a welcome change from the usual "you're OP as hell and nothing can possibly kill you" Metroid gameplay, but I'm afraid that they'd mess it up with fanservice nonsense :/

also go play the Zero Suit sections of Zero Mission and come back and tell me how you can do any of that shit with Samus' noodle arms. I can't believe I have to argue this shit, my god.

Yes you are trying to argue how a few inches of more muscle would explain jumping 10 meters, which is absurd.

I don't disagree on the fact that the slimmer Samus is there for the male audience, but I do on the fact that she needs to be more muscular to operate the magical (yes magical) power armor.

You're kidding me right? Psychowave and others in this thread have been putting up with the same tired arguments and thinly veiled insults for 100 pages now, a curt reply is hardly aggressive.

PW's clap backs give me life tbh.

Ive always viewed Samus the same way I view Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Genetically enhanced super strength not reflected in their build.

How is this a fair statement when you just said:

Feels like a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. Like you said, it actually makes sense in the context of her Varia Suit and I think the wedges serve multiple purposes: Intimidation (boosting her 6'3" height), and her rocket heels if she still has those. Her breasts can be toned down, sure. I'm just glad they made her look athletic and bulky in comparison to her past Barbie-looking designs.

Wait, so people don't think it's odd that Samus lacks the sort of athletic physique someone in her line of work would realistically have?

(and no, "it's magic so realism doesn't matter!" isn't an answer)

I love the thought of Samus going "I NEED TO BE SCARIER" and proceeding to put platforms on.

E: The new suit for Prime 4 is just stilts. Samus will now proceed to scream "FEAR ME!" while traversing the planet.

Even besides the point of whether she would "need" to be muscular to operate that power armor, she would "end up" being muscular just doing the motions needed to operate it for hours if not days (running, jumping, backflipping, contorting into a ball). Unless the argument is that the armor is so magical she doesn't even need to do these motions, it's all mind controlled, and her entire body is limp inside the armor, which I'm not sure is the image of Samus a lot of people have.

Also, isn't it canon that Samus is an enhanced human and that's why she can use the armor at all?

Ive always viewed Samus the same way I view Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Genetically enhanced super strength not reflected in their build.

And yet Peter Parker is depicted as pretty muscular in most of its representations. He may be scrawny compared to most heroes, but most heroes are built like freaking He-Man to begin with. In Peter Jackson's move he literally bulks up as a result of the spider bite.

Edit: First four hits of googling "peter parker shirtless comic" images:

Spider-Man is not buff by men standards he is a skinny dude with some cuts which isn't hard for a skinny dude No men in the fictional marvel universe(Jonah Jameson) nor our real world with the actors that have played Spider-Man looks at them as being buff or musclebound certainly not to the point where they would assume great strength or athleticism.

I find it really hard to take this post seriously considering the above images. I repeat, I literally pasted the first that came up on google.

Best comparison I can give you. Only one of these guys is considered buff or strong yet they both have defined muscles. I seen Floyd and other fighters his size in person they are small even with the defined muscle. So is Peter Parker.

Are you trying to argue that height isn't correlated with intimidation or?

Against alien creatures that either quadruple her size or have no visible eyes? Yeah, I'm having a hell of a hard time not to laugh my ass off at the notion. :D

And yet Samus looks absolutely nothing like either in terms of muscle tone.

Like if they wanted her taller for intimidation that they could have just made her taller.

They could have but they didn't. It still doesn't change the fact that they give her more height and that they literally have an application for zooming around with rockets. I don't know, I think that's way cooler than your standard jetpack personally. Trust me, I'd rather have her just be taller but I don't see them as problematic as other designs I've seen in this thread.
