Good, I wanna take these games on the go. It's a good way for Nintendo to pad out their output in Switch considering I'd double dip for most of the Wii Us library.

Bring on XCX and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

I've said it in a few other threads, but it does sort of suck.

As a Wii U owner, atleast I could hold onto the fact that I had a handful of truly great and unique exclusives, even if the console died within 3 years and was really not supported at all.

Now I basically only have Wonderful 101. The purchase was a complete waste.

i should be happy about wii u games being ported to switch just because not everyone bought a wii u?

that nintendo direct was almost all ports, the only thing i was interested in was kirby

it'd be one thing if the ports actually contained substantial new content, but that just isnt the case

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I have a huge Wii U library and there's still a ton for me to get into on the Switch.

Doesn't affect me as I won't buy the ports/remasters again anyway. But of course it's good for those that haven't played the games yet and those who want to see some improvements over the Wii U versions. It's a win-win situation, especially since they're fast to develop for the otherwise software droughts.

Digging it. Loved the Wii U but I never want to have to turn it on ever again (although I probably will to play Metroid Prime Trilogy before Metroid 4 comes out and maybe to play Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE)

Some of my favorite games in the last couple years were on Wii U but it's near impossible to defend the hardware unless you get people to experience it. More people need to play those games, and the Switch customer base is massive and growing

Need ports of:
Mario Maker
Wonderful 101
Smash for Wii U/3DS
Pikmin 3
Captain Toad
NES Remixes

I'd even take the ports of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess since those improved those games but people might not be as into them after BotW. Same with 3D Land/World.

In favor. Wiiu was awful and the games in it shouldn't be forgitten. Was a wiiu owner and have bought games "twice" like Mario kart. No hurt feelings.

I'm OK with it. Realistically there's a hard limit on how many WiiU games are worth porting, we already know there's new Kirby, Yoshi, Fire Emblem, Metroid etc on the way too.

I wouldn't mind if they had good games to release alonside them, but this first half of 2018 looks depressing for someone who had wii u and others no nintendo platforms.

I don't hate that the games exist. I hate that they are the only games that exist. Ports and Mario tennis... great. Guess that's what I get for supporting nintendo.

I have no interest in rebuying games I already have at $60 because you know that's what Nintendo will charge for them. As long as they aren't interfering with new games I don't really care.

Love it. The Wii U was a clunky PoS when it came out and it feels even worse post-Switch. Those great games trapped on a complete disaster of a console. I can't wait to retire mine.

I'll rebuy all the games I want to keep playing and ignore the ones I don't.

I'm ecstatic. I sold my Wii U last year since I knew it was dead. Nice to have all those games in one place.

I completely welcome it. Some really great games got slept on, and if they're getting new content I'm happy to enjoy them again. Plus, being able to play on the go is a powerful upgrade on its own for my lifestyle.

Honestly as a WiiU reboot and a portable console, the Switch just deserves all those games. I get that people complain if there is a lack of new games, but i'm sure 2018 will be ok!

Was hoping for new announcements but these games don't deserve to die on the WiiU.

I'll probably double dip on Bayonetta 2 and Tropical Freeze if they have notable improvements.

I'm always glad to have a better quality "definitive" version, but it really makes owing/collecting for a Wii U seem nearly pointless now...

I bought MK8 again and felt bad so I'm not going to double dip again. I'd much rather have new versions of stuff but I'm sure it's great for people who skipped the Wii U.

Fine with Hyrule Warriors becuase i loved that game and never played the 3ds stuff.
Fine with DKCTF because I never bought the game on the wiiU and when I saw it for cheap, the switch was already released and I thought, maybe this releases there too, i can wait. And here it is!
Fine with Bayonetta 1 and 2, because I want to have them on a not dead system and they already confirmed the 3rd, had an itch of replaying both the other day but wasnt going to cobnnect the wiiU again. (would be fine also with W101 becuase I freaking love that game)
Fine with BOTW becuase it was as switch game as much as a wiiU game released at the same time.

Not fine with Mario Kart 8 DX. Bought it and regretted, the only good thing i can say is that at least it works well as a party game when people come.
Not fine if Smash 4 releases barebones. Not a big fan of the WiiU version because, apart from the giant roster, it just felt like a game constrained byt the shitty 3ds (also broke my 3ds joystick so it can go and fuck itself). Just leave the roster as it is, add the new Nintendo characters and the ice Climbers, and build a whole new game around it with a real name (No SSB for Switch TM bullshit). I want new menus, more singleplayer modes, a real storymode, get rid of the fucking party game, etc... I wouldnt mind similar graphics with some embelishments either, just build a fucking complete console smash around it this time.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was definitely a litmus test to determine if there was demand for Wii U games. Ultimately, people just want games, period. It doesn't matter if it's a port or a remaster. If you've never played it, it's a new game for you. Enhanced visuals, performance, new content and improvements to QoL sweeten the deal.

I bought it based on the "launch window" mentality, with added features and the only worthwhile online game. The two-item system is not likely to happen in a mainline entry so Deluxe was a fantastic opportunity to experiment with the formula. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had alot going for it, I'm not getting the other ones though.

As someone who has never owned a Wii U or Switch, the games announced did not convince me to purchase a Switch. The same way they didn't convince me to buy a Wii U. Ports have their place and if I do buy a Switch I will get Mario Kart and Smash, but the first 5-6 months being mostly ports is eh. E3 will be telling. We'll know about the rest of the year and if 3rd party support is really there.

I feel nothing.

I understand it from a corporate standpoint, but I'm not a corporation.

As a Wii U owner I see a lineup that's awfully reminiscent of Wii U 2013.

Although I was more interested in Wonderful 101 than in Kirby Star Allies.

I have a huge amount of Wii U games to play and no plans on buying a Switch so by all means I hope Switch owners who dont have a Wii U have a chance to play some of these great games.

Sorry OP, but you're wrong.

This is having a severe negative impact on us members of the Wii U Owners Club. At one time we were an elite sipping away on bubbles of Tropical Freeze and Mirage Sessions and now they are undermining that exclusivity by releasing rush copy jobs to the masses.

If they weren't willing to support Nintendo back in 2012, why should they get these games now? They were made in honour of the true fans who stuck with them. We didn't need an easy mode character like Funky Kong because Nintendo knew we were up to the task.

Well at least I know I'll always be one of the ten people who own Wonderful 101. No way they'd sink money releasing that again to no sales.

I feel great about it. I hated playing on the Wii U. The tablet controller sucked, the sluggish UI of the system annoyed the hell out of me, the subpar resolution was so noticeable. Because of this I rarely played my Wii U and that includes not beating Tropical Freeze and not even buying Bayonetta 2 and some others. Now I can play them all.

I'm stoked for dk, it's always been my favorite platforming franchise and the year Tropical Freeze came out I was too busy to get to it.

I agree with everything you said, I was responding to someone who was happy Nintendo was making ports because they felt it would allow Nintendo to afford making new games. If Nintendo can't afford to make games as it is I would be bewildered. Of course if you want to buy the port because it's worth it you absolutely should - i'll probably get Souls.

I understand there will also be new games sown the road, but I'm speaking in the context of the Direct and the immediate future. There aren't many exciting new games between now and E3... in fact I can't think of a single one I personally want to buy.

I see, I didn't see the comment you're referencing but yeah, Nintendo certainly doesn't 'need' the funds from port jobs to create new content. I just see it as easy cash, and smart business. Maybe they're putting that money in a vault somewhere, maybe it's going towards Metroid Prime 4. Who knows lol. FWIW I'm not disagreeing with your general sentiments, I understand where you're coming from.

As a Wii U owner who has no need for portability that the Switch offers, the lack of new software is preventing me from purchasing a Switch.

Other than Super Mario Odyssey, there isn't anything the Switch offers that I don't already have on the Wii U and that I can't get better versions of on my Xbox X or PS4 Pro...ie Wolfenstein 2, NBA 2k, etc.

From a collector's point of view, I'm a little salty but from a normal consumer standpoint it's cool since more people will be exposed to these great games.

I can see people who are okay with this, but I can't see just flat out saying that it's "good." Especially when full price remasters of old exclusives has just replaced the wonders of just backwards compatibility.

I'm happy since a lot of Wii U stuff was really quality but just didn't get a chance to shine. Switch actually getting a good collection of 3rd party titles and indies in different genres also helps to make it look more palatable overall. It's also really helpful for convenience's sake.

At first I hated the idea, but I realize that I'm likely never touching my Wii U again unless Switch's VC is ass, I want more games on my Switch, and more people should play those great games, so this is all fine by me.

I'm all for it. As far as I'm concerned the Wii U had some fantastic games, and if this brings them to a bigger potential audience that can get to enjoy them, that's great.

I think its great. It isn't really taking very many resources away from the creation of new games, especially if they're outsourcing this stuff, and it gives these games a new chance to find the success they deserve.

Plus, down the line, I'll have an excuse to replay them. Especially Hyrule Warriors, for which I never bought any DLC or saw any of the 3DS exclusive content.

It's a great idea. Most people who own a Switch now probably never owned a Wii U, especially as the Switch passed the Wii U's lifetime. It also gives me the opportunity to play some of these games on better hardware/more complete versions. I never got Hyrule Warriors because of all the DLC coming out and how that game seemingly never finished with more content releasing. Almost certainly gonna pick up this version. I was just lazy and never got DKTCF, will get that too.

Not all of the ports are going to be for me, like I wouldn't pick up XCX since I already beat it, but not every one of the ports has to be for me.

I feel like this is the best way to feel about it and how I feel personally.

It has no effect on me at all. If I want a port its nice to have access. Maybe I'll buy one or two when/if they're on sale on those rare occasions.

Honestly if they think they can recoup the port costs and more money on the original development, then they should do it. More ports means those porting studioa have work that keeps them employed or working on the next big thing. It also allows the major publisher an opportunity to get more return on the money spent that can be used to make new games.

Then for the players, there are a ton of people who've never played these games. It is clear Switch has moved pst the core Nintendo group that owned a WiiU so this is great all around.

I bought a Wii U at launch and the first year completely killed any interest in it.

So I'm all for this.

As someone who missed out on a ton of Gems for the Wii U, yup im down for them to be put on switch. New games are coming, so why not both?
