For the sake of both preservation and playing them on decent hardware that people actually like, EVERY Wii U game worth playing should be ported to Switch eventually.

Considering how dismally the Wii U sold, no I don't think the Switch is too port heavy. In fact, I think these ports will allow an actual sizable audience to find and play these great games that they likely never had a chance to try before because they did not own a Wii U. It's a genius move on Nintendo's part and pads out the time between first party releases quite nicely.

Huh? I'm pretty sure most games were actually brand new (if multiplatform which is also good as 3rd parties show support) and most of the ports are definitive editions due to substantial new content (rather than just because of enhanced visuals and the portability both of which are very welcome) so I'm ok with it, who isn't? Plus WiiU was a complete failure, many people didn't have a chance to get those games because they gave up on the platform.

I don't think so. I personally know several people who skipped Wii U and have a Switch. Some of these games like Bayonetta 2 and Tropical Freeze deserved better than they got. As a Wii U owner who bought most of the games already, I do hope it's temporary to get them to the next big game though.

It certainly is. But the difference to what we see in PS4's ports is the added option of portability which give more value to the revamped software.

Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon and Rabbids were 2017 titles. No Metroid, Star Fox, Pokémon, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario, etc. are expected in 2018 (no mainline ones anyway). Nobody bought a Wii U. Makes sense to release its best games to a new system, albeit I'm no fan of full-priced remasters. Besides, this is a lull moment, so if the worst moments of a console's life brings us Tropical Freeze, Bayo 2, Hyrule Warriors (plus Mario Tennis), I think Switch will manage fine. The Pokémon, the Animal Crossing and the likes will arrive eventually, but most of the heavy-hitters have yet to arrive. Give it time, the Switch came out less than a year ago.

I think it could be a problem for the Switch in ways it hasn't for PS4 because of the difference in userbases.

People are used to there being a Playstation version of just about every major game, and its part of their expectations for the brand.

People are used to buying Nintendo consoles for exclusive content.

One worthwhile difference between a port from Xbox 360 > Xbox One(or playstation 3 to 4) is that there are new portability options when porting something like Tropical Freeze from Wii U > Switch.

Offering a new way to play those games (that I assume will run the same or hopefully better) due to the nature of the console is more interesting than an up-rez from the prior generation, in my opinion.

What userbase are though? The Switch userbase is going to be a lot different than the Wii U's userbase, which is a lot different from the Wii's userbase. Most of these ports are exclusive anyways, so I'm not sure where you're coming from.

Happens to like every console. It's going to get a lot of port just like every other console to ever exist. That's the way it goes because more people want ports than those who don't and it is rather easy money.

If you didn't think the switch would end up getting a lot of ports with how well its selling, then you must be crazy.

Switch is a fantastic sell for people who didn't own a Wii U and were never going to buy it. Let them get these games to more people.

Nintendo fans buy up everything regardless, I promise Nintendo has new titles coming.

No, it needs more. Prime Trilogy, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess. XCX and original Xenoblade. Give me all the Nintendo game ports. That is why I bought this thing!

It's only in its second year. Nintendo is notoriously slow in development and takes their time for quality. The fact they made the Switch so easy to port over to for indie titles and existing titles is a boon for them. It gives major players time to build teams to work on games for the console and gives Nintendo time to prove its console is worth developing for by building a large base of games, getting the console into peoples hands and showing any skiddish publishers that the base is alive and well and hungry for original titles.

it's a smart move.

Zelda dlc and xenoblade 2 just dropped last month. Kibry is in March. I am sure some more new games will be released before E3 too.

DLCs for rabbits and Mario Odyssey are coming too. Wiiu turn switch gamers who don't intend to buy old games will be fine.

no. Ports are good for the sole fact that if you haven't played the game before that means you have the opportunity to do so now.
Ports aren't for you, their for the younger generation who just became of age or maybe was too young to play a game at the time. Not to mention some people miss the games and or such as the Wii U's case, no one bought the console and the Switch has outsold the Wii U creating a huge new market to sell too.

It's just exhausting to see a ton of ports, but they are updating them with fresh content so it's not that hard of a blow.

Absolutely livid, I dunno why I bought the Switch.

Nah kidding, can not wait to double dip in Bayo 1+2 and Tropical Freeze. Now just bring over 3DW and W101 so I can finally put my WiiU to rest.

They are games, and it's not like N hasn't been working on new games for the system as well.

One of the biggest problems with the Wii U was the lack of third party ports and they just announced a big one (dark souls on the go baby wooooo). This, in conjunction with much less late ports like Wolfenstein II and Doom, shows that third party devs are willing to support the hybrid.

Also, those were some dope ass Wii U games that millions of people didn't play due to how absolutely shit the Wii U was. They pretty much need to port the Wii U's entire library to the Switch now that the games won't be encumbered by the worst hardware of the century.

Completely ok with it. The WiiU has outstanding games that were held back from being more widely recognized because of undesirable hardware. Giving more opportunity for people to experience games that are absolutely spectacular, like Tropical Freeze, is a-ok in my book.

I can see why some would be personally disappointed with the amount of ports, but the people who have actually played most of those games are probably confined to communities like this one. Which isn't to say their disappointment isn't warranted, but that they should understand that in several cases here, port isn't really any different than new game for many people (asides from the pre release hype). For example, never played TWEWY, but I've always read people either reminiscing about the game or hyping up that image of the girl, so I'm ready to see what all the fuss is about.

Also I finally get to play an Ys game, so there's that! Though a port, I understand that this is a good game and it has the opportunity to introduce the series to the Nintendo audience and show Falcolm (and other developers) that there is a viable market for their games there.

tldr; For many Switch owners, these ports will be their first time experiencing some of these games, broadening their scope of reach from the weaker WiiU audience, so I have no objections to all the ports, especially as I am experiencing several for the first time as well.

But I can see why other WiiU owners would be personally disappointed with the lineup and how that affects their experience with the Switch.

Not really. The WiiU ports make sense, since many didn't actually ever play them, and it isn't uncommon for platforms to receive a large amount of ports within the first 2 years. The added portability also adds a value to the software.

At the moment it's fine but I feel it's up to the pricing at this point. If ports launch at $60 even though the games been out for like 3 or 4 years then I rather have new games.

I think it is a good idea to get some of the best Wii-U games into more hands, maybe a wonderful 101 port coming soon?

They're relying on ports for the same reason why the other consoles rely on ports: making full scale HD games is time consuming and resource draining. First party publishers can't push out those half a dozen of those games annually.

And that's fine with me. It's the hypocrisy surrounding this that's hilarious.

Also worth mentioning: didn't we have months where NES/SNES Classic were the best-selling consoles? Those things have nothing but ports.

It's not a huge issue for me. Especially if they continue to port Wii-U games seeing as I didnt own the console.

People said the exact same thing about the PS4 early in its cycle and it turned out just fine.

It's pretty obvious that Nintendo is relying on ports to get them through to late 2018/early 2019 when they'll have another wave of original content (Emily has said as much). And that's fine. We got a Mario and a Zelda in the same year, it totally makes sense that they'd need time to release more big titles.

i feel like games are in general right now. It almost seems like I hear call for ports and remasters more than new games now. Are people not keeping their old systems anymore or something?

Yeah, I was hoping for more original games in the first half of this year. Though after such a strong 2017 I didn't think Nintendo had the resources to truly deliver this year, so I'm not surprised.

No, I want new and old games all to come to Switch. There's nothing wrong with them porting some Wii U games while their new games are being finished.

Nobody bought the Wii U, so it's completely fair for Nintendo to represent those titles especially when they add new contents (which is happening for all of these i believe)

Dark Souls is based on DS3 engine, so much more than just a port. (plus the original game was a masterpiece)

The Wii U sold like nothing. These ports are being experienced for the very first time by MANY new people. It's okay.

If Mario Kart DX proved anything it's that there were a TON of people that skipped the WiiU.
