Probably a factor, aye. They may have had a lot of staff - creative and otherwise - already in place, along with actual concepts ideas, from the first pilot attempt vs if they had to build from the ground up for the CW.

Though with the recent (if technically intended) FOX sale too, I realise we could have ended up in an odd situation where the guys who own Marvel might have been airing a competitor's show.

I like the characters and the world of that town. I just wish the hero himself would be cool. His costume looks lame, he stumbles around without any grace and the lighting energy attacks he does while in full view looked bad.
Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Daredevil, Punisher ..they alll look cool while doing their thing. Heck, even Luke Cage somewhat does, since he also lacks grace, but has a lot of humor in the fights, but Black Lighting..ughh..
Still that's a minor complain and I will be watching future episodes.

Also...did he really need to electrocute those policemen and destroy the car? They just arriwed at the scene of a shootout and see huge man with a fresh wound stumbling from the scene of the incident. What the hell were those poor saps supposed to do? They didn't even aim guns at him, just tasers. I guess that's a white-dude way of thinking though on my part :)

and was worried about his daughter and they mentioned him being increasingly frustrated the cops were basically unlucky that he was having a really bad day and felt like kicking some cops lol

Yeah, he really did and it was forshadowed in the opening scene. A person of color, injured, stumbling out an urban club, a club that has a seedy reputation? You don't see the implications of such a scenario. He didn't kill them but weighed the options. The writing on the wall of what was most likely to go down is blatent.

First time I ever watched a CW show. I really enjoyed the first episode. It was way more gritty than I expected. I look forward to the rest of the season. .

Initial TV ratings Black Lighting pretty much held all of The Flash's audience with a .8 in the 18-49 demo for both shows.

Ehhh... they really needed to show a guy with electricity powers absorbs electricity? I don't think the audience is that dumb.

You can piece it together from the flashbacks.

He figured based on BL's injuries in their last fight (all the bathtub scenes with his wife) and the fact that BL never resurfaced after that (since he promised his wife he wouldn't and quit) resulted in Whale thinking BL died due to the injuries.

I didn't watch this episode and I don't really watch anything on CW... But isn't Black Lightning like decades too old to be in a CW show? I don't know how old the actor actually is but this was my reaction to the commercials.

She wasn't a very good superhero in comics, not for a lack of trying but her heart was half in it. She wanted to help people but it was clear helping people through her powers wasn't an option, just because you have powers doesn't mean you should put on a suit and try to save the day. Then there was her weird relationship with Dr.Midnight.
