Is the PC version set up to be playable on a 4ktv?

Yes - but a Ubisoft employee on Steam said "it was made on PC to play at 30fps, so if you have issues switch to that"... which is rubbish.
I play at 4K with max settings, but AA set to low. I have RTTS set to 50fps limit etc and it very rarely drops below 50fps. Only times is when running etc when the copy protection causes frame dips.

How are people approaching side quests here? Doing them all or just doing a few in between main quests? I feel like there a lot of them and not all of them are too interesting.

If there's one thing that annoys me is that, if you get caught by a guard, suddenly a shitton of people in horses (or boats if its a port) start popping like mushrooms. Like, guys that weren't in sight at all suddenly appear like if they had a radio to communicate.

It's not tha big of a deal for now because I'm kinda overleveled but man it's annoying.

Does one of the HUD options turn off these stupid hints? They didn't bother me until I started doing tombs but now they've become a parody of themselves "Remember you can squeeze through here!" "Remember that some rooms have hidden entrances" "Levers work by balancing weight"....why don't I just sit here and let the game play for me? It's bad enough that these tombs seem to constitute 1 easily solvable puzzle per tomb but even then the game feels like it has to tell me every little thing to do in them.

I do them as I come across them, or at least pick them up, and yeah there hasn't been really any that are interesting. What they failed to understand about witcher 3 while trying to copy it is if you're going to have me do a mundane task you have to find a way to make it interesting, usually on the character or story side. The problem is I haven't seen any interesting side characters yet. A woman telling me her husband was killed and had his chariot stolen or some farmer wanting me to load his wagon with things isn't interesting in the grand scheme of things, it's just regular people with regular problems who want me to do regular gameplay things to solve their regular problems. These people and their tasks don't leave any kind of lasting impression (in fact I had to struggle a bit just to remember those because I've already mentally discarded most of the quests I've done).

So it's very early in the game, and I'm supposed to meet this dude, side quest though. On the way there I run into a dying man whose daughter wants me to fulfill his final wish. So I go into the desert to get something for him and I sneak around a guard post to get it. When I come out, one of the guards sees me, shoots at a clay pot and all of a sudden the ground is on fire. I use the fire to keep my distance from them while I dispatch them. When I return to complete the quest, the ending is a but unexpected.

Then some woman is worried about her husband so I go find him on this island. When I bring him back, the ending is totally not what I expected. I go back to the island to get some loot, run into a pack of crocs. They don't see me shooting at first, but then one of them figures out where I am and they start coming. Some axe swings later, and I've gotten a new shield, and upgrade, and loot.

Then instead of meeting the dude, my original goal, I go and find a papyrus that Senu noticed. On the way to solving the papyrus, I have Senu check out a question mark on the map. It's nighttime and looks like some guards are sleeping, good time to take out the captain. So I go over there and whoops it's not a guard post it's a vulture lair! I keep missing the king vulture with my bow, so I just swing at it when it comes in to bite me and I take it down.

After the papyrus puzzle, well look at the time it's time to go to bed. But I haven't met the dude yet. This game.

I just noticed that you have a set of combat animations underwater. Currently, I've been fighting alligators and hippos above water just doing one slash at the time.
When you dive in, you'll have a set of three combo attacks with the weapons that deal far more damage than above water.

And the wildlife interactions have been amazing. I have seen a pack of hyenas ambush lions, crocodiles and even leopards. Crocodiles are preying on hippos. And my favorite, a pride of lions, led by one male, killed a hippo. Out from nowhere came three other hippos, and a huge fight erupted with the hippos standing victorious by the end.

Beat the game today, 50 hours, I really love how it ended in Egypt and how things started to connect with AC1, really well done. Modern day.... I don't dislike what they have done but if they are not willing to put a little more effort, they should drop modern day all together, is really pointless at this point.

Best AC after AC2 and ACB and Bayek is the best character after Ezio.

Thinking of picking this up. Combat looks god awful though but game journalists are notoriously bad at gaming when talking so it's hard to judge.

Any good videos of competent combat?

Or is it just bad?

Do enemies just not react? Videos make it look almost mmo like. Just some numbers popping off.

No, enemies react to hits. But it's easier to mash your way to victory than play strategically, as there's no stamina management, there's an early perk for in-combat health regen, and you can break out of enemy combos (even parry additional hits). To be fair, you're often going to be fighting more opponents at once (both melee and ranged) than in Souls, so combat has to be more forgiving and faster paced.

They do about half of the time you hit them, the other half they'll stand there in their combat stance like nothing happened. It's part of the reason I said this combat looks like an eastern euro studio with a low budget made it.
It pains me to say it but there's not a single western studio that makes melee combat completely right.

This is good enough for an approximation though, the sequel will be great.

Honestly, Ubisoft has the money to just pay the Platinum or From guys to improve the combat.

What do you do with the papyrus puzzles?

I have two in my inventory but no idea what I'm supposed to do with them.

Is there a good variety of enemies with varied combat AI?

No, not really. Melee is just circle strafe, dodge/parry, and mash attack, using heavy/charged attacks to break shield defense and rage moves when you have meter. Human enemies can have different weapons and armor, and heavies/bosses have guard breaking attacks, but I've seen no more at a dozen hours in than in the first hour. Wildlife, be it lions or hippos or crocodiles, are similarly defeated (circle around, dodge, and mash attack).

As much as I wish there was a sequel to Dragon's Dogma, this is not it. Melee combat is serviceable (better than previous games in the series, The Witcher III, and Horizon Zero Dawn), but that's about it. You're not going to get your combat high here.

Melee combat feels a lot like Ocarina's Z targeting to me, not ideal but far better than the previous.

Ok...

Does it at least have some sick finishers?

Feel like since ac brotherhood, chain kills animations have always been the highlight of combat.

I'm enjoying my time so far, but I just wanted to comment on how disappointing the music is. What should have been a highly emotional flashback ended up feeling weaker than it should have due to the complete lack of reinforcing background music.

Assassin's Creed 2 did a much better job of this. I'm gonna guess Jesper Kyd is not involved this time around.

Alternative control scheme is so much better than standard. Combat is vastly improved using the face buttons to attack rather than the shoulder buttons and having dodge on circle is much more intuitive for me.

Do it.

I should have switched over immediately. As it is, I played the entirely of my first session with the default controls, so I still think "R2" = "guard break" at first when someone with a shield pops up. Heck, sometimes I still think square button = "assassinate", like OG AC, and wind up triggering combat from stealth.

I'm loving the music. Scratches that ancient/mid-eastern itch very well IMO. It never overwhelms the moment.

I upgraded two weapons that I now would like to disassemble or sell, but the game won't let me for whatever f* uped reason. Is there a workaround or something I'm not seeing?
