Looks like they just started cracking down

You can just buy the ticket at the kiosk and talk to customer service after movie to add points

I don't see how this is any better. CS will attach the ticket to your stubs account, which is the same as the kiosk. If they REALLY wanted to crack down on it, you would still be flagged. Unless CS is simply adding points, and not the transaction, which seems unlikely.

Uh-oh, it appears that MoviePass is cutting off some of the highest-volume AMC theaters. Not sure which party is responsible (these are also some of the most expensive theaters in the country, so this could be MoviePass trying to save money), but this doesn't bode well.

This is really fucked up if they aren't telling people AND the theater is still showing in the MoviePass app. I got the yearly pass and will be very upset if they just go and change it after the fact.

Looks like this is movie pass trying to exert leverage on AMC. By blocking their main and expensive theaters from the app, they probably want a better price or some kickback from the theater to add it back into the app again. The war seems to have started.

Maybe. But I think it's more likely this was just to start cutting costs, labeling the more expensive theaters as premium just like Arclight and others. And if they are truly premium or in demand (as the prices indicate), AMC shouldn't feel that much of a bite on their profits, meanwhile they can still enjoy Moviepass giving them money in all their other theaters.

Ooh yeah AMC Empire 25 is gone from my app. That one was shit anyway. There's a (nicer) Regal literally right across the street too.

Maybe. It could simply be too much volume for MP to handle since AMC River East is the biggest in the city. Or it could be issues with the theaters on an individual level due to management.

I'm still lucky none of mine are effected yet, but depending on it. It would make me reconsider.

Interesting enough, I'm getting close to hitting my 40th film with MP. Assuming an average of 7.25 a ticket, that's close to 300 dollars for my 50 or so. There is a good reason why they are bleeding money. Going to see Maze Runner and Hostiles over the next week largely because my work is right next to a theater. So rather than drive home during rush hour, I've been seeing movies LOL

Not really all they do is calculate the points and write it down. They don't worry about payment method or anything when adding points after the fact. I just throw them my receipt.

This is why I didn't bite on the annual plan deal, seems too risky when all these theaters can suddenly vanish one day with zero warning. It seems like MoviePass is playing hardball with AMC and trying to force them into cutting a deal, but it's their own customers that they're screwing over.

Luckily the AMC's in north Jersey are still supported at the moment, but it's probably only a matter of time until those are gone too. Meh.

Not even AMC Orange 30 or The one at Downtown Disney?

Yea those two are on there still. Some of the bigger ones aren't.

HAH and I'm looking now across San Diego and the IE and three of the BIG ones that were gone earlier are now back on the list. Earlier the Ontario and Riverside Tyler AMCs (both have Dolby Cinema screens) were gone. Now they're back on.

I wonder if the PR disaster is changing their minds?

If this is because of AMC then I hope they enjoy getting people used to going to other theaters.

They're both showing Maze Runner, The Post, the Greatest Showman, and The Last Jedi right now. Seems like decent overlap for 2 theaters literally right next to each other, as there are a couple other options not terribly far away too.

That's new then. As of a few months ago there was -zero- overlap with new releases. If Cinemark had something and you wanted to see it at AMC, you had to hike over to Van Ness.

Yay Area
Have y'all used it to reserve tickets for another day? I know the terms say same day ticketing but I've never done it nor do I know if they've actually cracked down on it.

The AMC's near me in San Jose are still up except AMC Mercado

They've removed 2 of the 4 AMCs in my area. Unfortunately one of them is easily the biggest theater in 30 miles and has stuff that the other ones don't :( And the other one they blocked is a dine-in 21+ only AMC. Ugh.

I wouldn't be surprised if these theaters had a large number of MoviePass customers exploiting MoviePass for Stubbs points, buying lots of tickets without seeing the movie.

AMC near me is still on the app. If it does happen to go down, the Regal is nearly as close.

Just means AMC will lose my business and money. 26 movies in 3 months so far.

Planning to see Death Cure and Hostiles this week.

The official comment from MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe to Deadline is a bit worrying - it seems like this is just the beginning of more theaters being dropped.

"As we continue to strive for mutually-beneficial relationships with theaters, the list of theaters we work with is subject to change. We advise customers to always double check the MoviePass app for the most up-to-date list of participating theaters."

Doesn't affect me yet but it does kinda worry me that more theaters will be dropped in the future. Guess I'll just try to enjoy it while it lasts.

Argh. The Empire is a huge MP theater for me. Rampant abuse? Ticket prices are on par with other NYC AMC locations....

This is not AMC doing this, this is Moviepass. This may be revenge for what the CEO said, but otherwise AMC basically told their stockholders they're fine with moviepass paying them money, and they'll never do profit sharing with them.

I doubt it. These are probably the theaters that have high ticket prices and are losing Moviepass the most money. This is just like them cutting out the premium theaters like Arclight for being too expensive. And if Moviepass could actually track abuse, it behooves them to punish the user and not the theater.

My local small regal theater charges 14$ for a standard movie. Most of the theaters in socal are this price. The fuck are they going to do, remove all the regal and AMC and Cinemark theaters in every large city? They knew what they were getting into. Pretty shitty if they suddenly remove it all because it's too pricey. They should have made the max for each ticket lower or something instead

Why buy tickets and not watch them for reward points?

Won't driving there and back cost more money than the points value itself?

Some people live and work very close to theaters. I got a report from someone who worked close enough to a theater to walk to it on his lunch break every day and use the kiosk to buy a ticket he wouldn't sit down to see.

I don't see the AMC in Century City, CA anymore. Not a big deal as parking is expensive as fuck, but I hope Cinemarks aren't next.

But if it was volume and abuse, why just the Empire and not the Regal E-Walk too which is right across the street?

So, I don't know much about MoviePass, but I'm interested in getting one. Can someone explain to me how it works for reserved seating theaters because all my local theatres recently switched to reserved seating.

You have to go to the theater to buy it. Usually that's fine if you show up late even (sitting closer is much more palatable if it has reclining seats). If you're worried about selling out, you have to go early that day. It can be a hassle but it makes the tickets free so it's worth it.

All the AMCs near me still work, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get removed soon. Their prices for a regular format 2D show are outrageous compared to Regal, which is the most prevalent chain around here.

While the one by me does $6 movies before noon, and the Dolby Cinema tickets in the morning are $11 compared to $17 at night.

Regal is the opposite. Always $11 or more, and RPX gets up to $18-$19.

My closest AMC stopped working a couple of weeks after getting MP. There are a couple of others about 40 minutes away that it still works with, though.

Fuck AMC. Watching them mark and scribble all over tickets to be sure you don't get rewards points is fucking hilarious.
