My friends! This game is £17.99 on the UK eShop. I purchased Slime-san and didn't dig it too much, but I have also played games like Mutant Mudds and found it great fun. Would you say the game is worth the money?

Nice! Is it long enough for the 20 Euro price tag? It seems very substantial, but something like Super Meat Boy is too and that's around 60% of that... (Haven't played SMB in around 7 years, but I remember it being priced similarly to the Switch release).
Both have lots of extra content beside the main stuff so honestly you can't go wrong but this game is really good so far and imo even better than meatboy (that 93 metacritic average of review scores is justified imo from what i played).

But in the end get the one your most interested in now, you can always get the other one later, it will take a while for completion either way.

Holy shit, this game is addictive. Its sooo good! The challenges are on point and more than once I was staring at the screen and saying, well, this is impossible. After some attempts it was indeed possible to get that f***ing strawberry. I like getting them! Really rewarding game, just like Super Meat Boy. I might say it may dethrone SMB as best perfect platformer for me, because of its superb art + music. Its also got an intriguing story.

Top notch game, period. About 2 hours in and got to the hotel and did the cleaning. Can't wait to play more!

It's a trick you can do with the screen transitions. I noticed it in chapter 3, it's necessary to get the second strawberry. Crossing from one screen to the next recharges your dash.
Yup, really, really cuts down on time with speed runs too.

Also for those who are trying to cut times down, if you dash and immediately jump, you get a really fast and lengthy long jump. I'll take a clip of it here in a sec.

How long does it take to finish this game. I want to play it because of all the positive word of mouth but I'm having trouble justifying the money because I'm afraid it's super short.

I read somewhere (probably one of the reviews) that it's around 8 hours long without collectibles and post game stuff. Could get up to 25-30 hours for everything.

Also this game is amazing. Holy crap so tough (died 125 times in the first chapter) but so rewarding when you finally get it!

I'm curious about this is as well. And also, I'm sure this is known and I missed it somewhere, but is this all handcrafted or is it procedural? I'm super tempted to get this and the music is fantastic from some of clips I've seen.

Edit: ^ Well shit that's a good length then. I always go for 100% and all collectibles in games so this is good to hear.

Oof 8 hours is incredibly short I'm the type who likes to rush through games to experience the story and don't really bother with collectibles and optionals unless they give something significant. Thanks for the response.

That's just the main levels. Each level has an unlockable B-Side which is significantly harder. It's not just a remixed level either, it's entirely new just using/expanding upon the mechanics of the A-Side level. Beating those is going to take you at least as long as beating the main game again.

This is much more polished than Slime-san. The controls are incredibly precise and level design is far more refined. Plenty of content if you're up for the challenge. (I'd also say that Matt Thorson has a pedigree for tight precision platformers and him and his team/friends easily deserve the money)

I like Slime-san but I'd order it (for Switch) as Slime-san < Splasher < Super Meat Boy < Celeste

Only done level 1 and its B-side but OOF dis is real good.

Anyone wanna tell me if I was supposed to do something with that satellite dish and those birds, tho? I took a picture for later, at least. Dunno if it's some Fez-esque super puzzle that'll give me some rare collectable.

You're putting too much emphasis on the length. Plus, I'd say ~8 hours for $20 is a great deal.

The way you wrote kind of communicates the exact opposite of what I think you actually mean.

Yes, related to end game content. They're all self contained so you have everything you need to solve it already.

The way you wrote kind of communicates the exact opposite of what I think you actually mean.

Would you believe me if I said it was 3 typos?

I almost never impulse buy games at full price, but I did here, and I'm glad I did. Celeste is great, and feels like a significant step up from Super Meat Boy.

I'm impressed how frictionless, friendly, and frustration-free the game feels, despite being challenging and scratching the same itch as the best masocore platformers. I have no idea how the developer did it.

I understand what you're saying man a games worth isn't necessarily about its length. However, for me personally right now, I don't have a ton of extra money for entertainment (I do have some) so if I'm going to put it into a game I want it to last me a while.

For those speed running, here's a trick I found to cut your times down - press dash and then jump immediately after and you will move horizontally with a long jump much faster than your normal jump and dash.

Also, my current times! I'm going to try to get Forsaken down to 1:20 and Old Site down to 3:00. I know some optimizations I can do to get them there.

8 hours for a platformer isn't incredibly short, it's not even short, that is slightly longer than normal. Getting a platformer to reach 10 hours of main game content is rare, for that to be solid the whole way through even rarer.

This is the perfect game for my work breaks. I've been wanting another Meat Boy/The End Is Nigh styled platformer on Switch and this is feeling like one of the best so far. It's that great.

DBZF and MonHun beckon for my attention later on but I just wanna keep playing this. Between all these games and Iconoclasts this has been an incredible week for games.

Is it better to get this on PS4 or Switch? I feel like I'd prefer the PS controller for a tight platformer like this but I also haven't really played any platformers on the Switch yet either.

Saying 8 hours for a $20 game is short? You must not have liked Metal Gear Rising...

8 hours for a platformer is not short, I've paid $60 for shorter games.

Today while playing in Chapter 2 when you
unlock the block dash thingies
I'm pretty sure I said out loud "WHOA". That moment combined with
the dream chase
made the chapter so much fun.

So is Dunkey's review wrong when he states that you only get the crystal hearts from beating the harder versions of levels? I've got 3 so far from levels 1, 2 and 3 without doing the hard levels. You need 4 to unlock the extra level at the end of the game apparently.

I'm up to Chapter 4 after two and a half hours (a good chunk of that spent collecting strawberries). It's a masterpiece. Theo is life.

Just reached chapter 5 and decided to head back and clean up some of the early levels. What a great experience. The music is outstanding and the challenge is well tuned. I haven't been this addicted to a platformer since Super Meat Boy, and I consider that to be one of my favorite games ever. Can't wait to dive back in later.

This Game is the more charming Super meat boy. Just a wonderful and tough as nails Platformer.

So I've been looking at reviews, but no one has seemed to mention framerate or performance. Is the game 60 FPS on the Switch docked/handheld? Is the game 60FPS on steam? Any help any of you have would be appreciated!

Getting strawberries really adds so much to the experience. Here's too from Chapter 3.

Can't wait to tackle B-Sides, but I think I'll beat the game and get all strawberries first.

Do we know how many chapters are in the game? You can throw the answer in a spoiler tag.

I got halfway through chapter 3 last night before I realized it was 2 AM and I had to work today.

Is there a 2D platformer in existence that's longer than 8 hours?

This is not a technically demanding game. Framerate should not be an issue regardless of platform.

This is a thing I would like to know, too: the "d-pad" is such a mess on the Switch that I'm honestly worried in having to use it in any 2D game.

It works perfectly well with the joycon buttons. Honestly it might be better for this game than a true d-pad, because you can't slip and move in the wrong direction. Either press both buttons or don't. I haven't tried with the pro controller yet though because I just want to play in handheld mode, so I might be full of shit

Man this game is a delight! I'm 2 hours in now at the end of chapter 3! loving the extra kick the strawberries add to the difficulty! But I kind feel the chapters are going quite fast! One thing though i found 2 silver hearts but not sure if should get them know or later!? does anybody know what they're used for?

The frame rate is usually only mentioned by users and reviews when it's a problem. The game is built with XNA/MonoGame, and I would expect this game to run with the same performance on all platforms.

Why would you want to play this game with a d-pad? The diagonal dashing seem to become very difficult with that kind of input.

yeah if this game doesn't get ost nods at year end I'm gonna be salty

love when that tracks kicks into full gear here

and then when that melody line comes in here

Yeah, Lena Raine did a great job with the theme and it was smart to double down on the way it escalates in the last act.

When the music kicks up and you find your groove the game feels like ballet. Demonstrates the power of a good soundtrack.

One of my favorite game soundtracks since FTL (who's composer Ben Prunty is listed in the credits as well).

144Hz in 8K resolution over here.

I spent much of my review period playing this on a Macbook with an integrated GFX solution and ran into zero issues. Seems like the game's occasional effects and visual tricks are pretty optimized, should you want to run Celeste on any low-end hardware.
