So I have only been playing since the 24th of July (I started so my other half had someone to do raids with) which means I'm at almost exactly the 6 month mark.

1030 km walked
149 Kanto caught
12902 Pokemon caught
1672 Pokemon evolved
468 eggs hatched
9276 PokeStops visited
2,801 Gym Battles
96 Johto caught
7261 hours on Gym defense
38 big Magikarp caught
Trained zero times (removed before i started to play)
102 tiny Rattata
161 Pikachu caught
5397 Berries fed
72 Hoenn caught
5 unique Unown caught
79 raids
214 Legendary Raids

5494 Normal types
353 Fighting types
3793 Flying types
2791 Poison types
625 Ground types
328 Rock types
2,745 Bug types
610 Ghost types
367 Fire types
2033 Water types
789 Grass types
478 Electric types
1049 Psychic types
523 Ice types
401 Dark types
454 Fairy types
56 Steel types
35 Dragon types

Currently level 37 and *almost* at the 1/2 way mark to level 40 (500,000 XP on Level 37 means you have 10 million and need 10 million more to hit 40)

I have managed to catch *one* shiney Magicarp (its terrible stats but i've got one!) and for the event last week I got 2 shiny Pikachu

That feeling when you slowly inch towards 100 Aron candy catching and hatching nothing but decent or strong.

Then you catch an amazing Lairon in the park.

It's only level 13 though (and 91%). I caught an 86% level 28 Aron immediately after.

Walked 20 KM with Feebas, switched back to Larvitar now to get back to restoring my living Dex. I don't care about walking Feebas for the final 14 Candy, rather find two of them.

I only played initially for like 3 weeks. Didn't come back until the last week of the legendary birds (of which I only have Lugia). I wish I completed that badge so badly.

You must have a great throwing finger or used a lot of lucky eggs during raid runs to get to lvl. 40 that quickly!
I used to have a lucky egg running pretty consistently. The benchmark for a good account, at least around here, is around 20,000 caught when you hit level 40. I was shy of the number by like 300 or something when I hit. My raid numbers STILL aren't that high though. So I know I didn't just raid-smash my way up to the top. I got some good mons, but my account is nothing compared to some of the people I play with.

Oh, really? I mentioned it because I caught 32,400 vs. your 27,500 and I only recently achieved lvl. 40. A bit over 20k at lvl. 40 is insane to me! Terranigma I see has caught almost 40k!

Yeah, I never mass evolve. Have only done it twice.

I did mass Pidgey/Caterpie evolution during the first few months that the game was out. I stopped completely in late 2016, because it was just too tedious and the EXP had become super high at that point (around 30). Fodder in general became less common as the game progressed.

so I took a big break last October because I was annoyed by the EX Pass and work was busy. I ended up missing Suicune and Oh-Ho and the ice event (Delibird) while I was at sea.

I started playing again a little bit and got re-hooked. Finally got an EX Pass for next week. Got the Pokedex to 327 and have all the regionals except the new SE Asia one.

I think I can get the Pokedex to 344 now (missing Ho-Oh, Suicune, Delibird, and the new regional), hopefully some of the legendary bosses make a re-appearance.

Oh I used to mass evolve with a lucky egg on like a monster.

It was a true grind to get to 40 that fast.

And I ain't even the most diehard locally. I know 2 other people here who walked and caught more than I did. One basically is a retiree and plays daily from early morning to into the evening catching and catching. And the other is a woman who has been 40 since last spring.

Good productive day. Up to 86 Generation 3 Pokémon. Evolved Milotic, Wailord, Agron, Armaldo. Found Cacturn, Nosepass and Lileep. So I have only really rares left.

Ugh so much drama and hostility sometimes. Some people really get bitter if they get kicked out of gyms. I've heard stories where some areas have a rotation system so that everyone can collect coins. I've also heard stories where if you don't abide by those rules, you'll be threatened or get your side view mirror kicked in by passerbyes. It's just a game, people. I've also heard stories where a group of people join an open raid lobby and one of them yells "GET OUT" so that the people who they don't like waste their pass. I can understand if they were spoofers, but doing that against legit players is a dick move.

Yeah these are the kind of assholes that ruin the experience. There's a group of spoofers here who take over all the gyms and even flag your account if you take them out, they show up in person for raids every now and then, but mostly set up private raids and focus on gyms where EX passes have been handed over. They act like a gang in the sense that they go as far as creating low level accounts from opposing teams with insulting names and put low level pokémon in the gym you just took over, they're petty as fuck, I've read some of the stuff they talk about in their whatsapp group, these guys are simply messed up in the head.

It's not in my neighbourhood so I'm not directly affected. It's in a small town next to ours. I still get bothered by spoofers though. :/

This TrainerTips video about Brandon Tan, player with the most XP in the world, was very interesting. I never knew about "tap and go" raiding.

Cool video. There are some pretty hardcore players around my area that drive around all day doing raids. I guess they have enough financial freedom that they just treat Pokemon GO like a full time job.

I've got a bunch of rare candies, but the only legendaries I have so far are Groudon and Kyogre. Should I just hold onto them until I have more or just throw them all at my highest IV Groudon and then do the same for Kyogre once it goes away? I'd use them on my 100% Dragonaire but the community event next month should give me plenty of candy for that.

Also what are the best Pokemon to use Charged and Fast TM's on and which attacks should I be trying to get?

You will always get more rare candies. I have a stockpile of 100 for when I get a Mewtwo, but I use everything after that pretty regularly once it gets up to like 150 or so. Usually I hold for Legendaries that have rotated out, as getting candies for them is otherwise impossible.

As for TMs, which mons do you use the most? Look at their profiles online and see what the grades are on their moves. Many times it's beneficial to switch between attacks depending on what you're doing with them.

I would not see any problem with dumping them into your best Groudon and powering it up
Worth waiting a while for Kyogre to see what other candies you can get from catching more (or trading in your low IV catches)

Both Groudon and Kyogre are 'best' of their class , if you were asking about other legendarily then its often not worth it because there are other things in the game which will do the same / more damage and that you can source candies for much easier (Suicune is a good example here because although its a legendary its outclassed by a Vapereon)

Also what are the best Pokemon to use Charged and Fast TM's on and which attacks should I be trying to get?

There are a few web pages which will show the best movesets for each Pokemon - so pick what you want to power up and use it on them.
Fast TM's are generally good because most Pokemon only have 2 fast moves so you just switch between them
Charge TM's can be more difficult because most Pokemon have 3 and you can often just flip it back and forward between the two you don't want.

If your looking for something to dump Fast TM's on then any Gyarados that does not have waterfall (so any older than about a month) should be your first stop

Example website to look at https://pokemon.gameinfo.io/en/pokemon/130-gyarados
They will often mention STAB (and then not explain it) - which is Same Type Attack Bonus which means you want your Pokemon to have a move that matches its type (e.g. Water for Gyarados or grass for Sceptile)

Awesome, got my best Groudon up over 3000 and I'll save the rest of the candy for my best Kyogre. I rarely use stardust on anything but DAMN it takes a ton to level up some of these mons!

Going to also go through the movesets like you said to find the best ones to use the TM's on.

Use all but 66 candy, just incase you get a Mewtwo then you can power him up to level 30. Otherwise dump those candy into Groudon and Kyogre. Don't use candy on anything other then legendaries, it's pointless.

Blissey is less pointless than legendaries. And Kyogre is the best generalist, even better than Mewtwo. You could just convert rare candies to Kyogre candy and wait to power it up.

I agree and have put some of mine into Blissy , however if we're lucky there may be something special for Blissy / Chancy around the valentines event

Also if you are short of Blissy candy there are ways to get it easier than Legendaries

1) Feed a Blissy or Chancy in a gym berries (every so often you will get a candy as well as your 20 stardust and gym progression)
2) Hatch a Chancy (not right now but they are in general 10k eggs)
3) Catch one wild (again rare but it does happen)
4) Walk with one as your buddy , yes its 5k per candy but that's better than the 20k for a legendary

I don't do anything in general with my defenders. Any Pokemon I put into a gym I'm putting in for candy like Feebas or Lotad. The only thing worth powering up for me are attackers.

No difference between a level 40 Blissey or a level 1 Skitty, if someone wants that gym they are going to take it.

That I think is more variable depending on the area you are in - I put chunky things in to survive a few hits and to deter someone passing thinking they can easily take the gym down

Yes if someone is determined they can take it - but if you see a gym with all level 1 tat then its no problems
If you see a gym with 6 strong high CP defenders then its more time to take it down and more of a chance someone in the gym will drop berries to heal stuff up

No they don't. Kids and teens get out of school in the afternoon and they often use what's suggested to them (just look at the Pokemon used in raids), which is never Machamp or other fighting types because of Blissey's attacks.

And time is valuable for people who are working. Sometimes they only have x minutes for a lunch break or to catch a bus or train.

But my personal goal now that I reached lvl. 40 is to get as many gold gym badges as possible so YMMV. Blissey and Chansey are the best defenders by far.

Got my 2nd pass in a row now, so now I have one on reserve in case I don't manage to catch it wednesday.
Takes the pressure off of that one fortunately.
