No idea what SCPs were before this thread. Now I know and have no idea why they are scary or awesome. Random object is dangerous, technical reasons why, and so on and so on. I don't get the appeal.

Some are that simple and some are far far more complex. You can click on several linked in this thread. Most are basically short horror stories.

SHIT I had no idea qntm decided to write more antimemetics stuff. Looks like I have new reading material, fuck yeah!
Yeah I only found out when I went to his personal site to check for new stories in general and noticed he had a link to his scp profile. I'll always shill for the dude. Most of his stuff has been great, even if I was originally salty over the ending of Ra

Yo I read the antimemetics story about the dude "killing" Grey ages ago but didn't realize there was a whole set of stories there. Just got through them all and boy what a lovely oeuvre.

Now heres an unsettling one.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-3003

Planet hundreds of light years away from earth, very similar to ours but home to billions of infected humans that only live and build their society around maintaining and spreading the parasite that controls them.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-1845
SCP-1845-1 is currently of the belief that it and its associates are prisoners of war and that its allies will ransom or rescue it in the near future; it is not to be disabused of this notion. Foundation wildlife surveys shall conduct regular reconnaissance of SCP-1845's native environment in search of any uncontained animals.
SCP-1845 currently consists of the following;
  • One male American red fox (Vulpes vulpes fulvus), approximately 3 years old at the time it entered Foundation custody in 20██, designated SCP-1845-1.
  • Fourteen muskrats, twelve ducks, six bald eagles, two deer, three feral cats, two gray wolves, and two crows, designated SCP-1845-2.
  • Twenty-six pigeons, sixteen mountain lions, twelve squirrels, eleven sheep, eight black bears, six raccoons, and a Bengal tiger, designated SCP-1845-3.
SCP-1845-1 has been observed to be the leader of the colony and the only member of the group observed to be able to use the installed keyboard. SCP-1845-1 considers itself to be of royal heritage and identifies itself using the title "His Royal Highness, Eugenio the Second, by the Grace of God, King of the Forest, Lord of the Plains, Duke of the Grand Fir and the Undergrowth, Count of the Swamp, Margrave of ██ ███████, Warden of All the Streams and Rivers, and Lord Protector of the Cities of Man, Defender of the Faith." SCP-1845-1 identifies itself and its followers as Roman Catholics and appears to be extremely pious in its devotions - it has been observed on video praying over its meals and observing holidays and saintly feast days, and has been observed to order punishments against other members of the colony for perceived lack of piety.

I spent some time with "Able" and related stories / discussion pages last night.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-076

076 has that ratio. An old SCP that has a ton of upvotes but also has a ton of really vicious comments. Kinda fun reading through that community wrestling with that part of the heritage.

I do love any that involve Dr Wondertainment or The Factory.

Some of my favorites are the Little Misters. They're each like sapient doll's with powers. So much fun.

I made the 3000 contest thread at the old site, many of those entries were great. I'm not a big fan of 3999 though, the dialogue is not great.

I really like the one with the creepy vhs tapes, it has great imagery. Forgot the number though.

Not all of it is gold, even some of the popular ones have some pretty dumb writing that feels borderline bad fanfic. Like the 682experiment logs a lot of those are very close to lolfoundation territory. That type of stuff I normally omit of my headcanon.

Some things I normally get rid of.
SCPs and random people knowing of other SCPs for no reason. If you can write this to make sense e.g. they have some sort of psychic ability or is some godlike entity then sure, but everyone casually dropping SCP numbers and names irks me. These things are meant to be super secret with very few people in the know for each SCP.

Cross testing popular things just because they are popular. Foundation has a very clear no cross testing policy because unpredictable bad things http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-899"Lost Children" can happen http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-903 "Tunnel of Infinite Possibility"

Some other slight things can bother me, but I still love it overall just have to cut some things mentally here and there.

Recently rediscovered SCP after watching a few videos by Eastside Show SCP. Last one I watched was SCP-2316 and the added touch of the text-to-speech voice really added to the immersion. His videos feel like he's someone in the organization keeping audio logs of all the SCPs in the foundations custody.

Whats the one (might be a tale) of the guy existing within a void, not knowing who/what he is, only knowing that the word "Foundation" makes him angry and when he screams it makes ripples in the void itself?

SCP fans might be interested in the Magnus Archives podcast. On the surface it's a series of short stories involving SCP-like artifacts and events being catalogued by a fictional Magnus Institute in London, England, but there's also a major overarc that binds the stories together. It's now in its third of five planned seasons, and definitely hits the creepy vibes of a lot of the best SCP articles.

I started listening to Magnus shortly after reading this post and just caught up to the current episode. It's pretty good! Occaisionally feels a little rote (so many stories have a person describing something as "wrong"), but often surprises. The slow build from anthology into the meta narrative is really great.

Found some cool SCP fan art. Apparently they put out an artbook & calendar, might have to buy it. http://www.artscp.com/en/artbookhttp://www.artscp.com/en/calendar

I quite like some of the non-scary SCPs, like the C.O.R.G.I.
Been going through 3000 and upwards, found the indestructible and unstoppably affectionate dog entry pretty funny:

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-3042

Its a dog that will basically cross through or break any barrier to find whoever its bonded to and it can't be killed. Its so overbearingly lovable at all times that people will commit suicide or asked to be killed after awhile to escape it.

Anyone know any good humanoid-monster types in series 3 or 4? New SCP's all seem to be either reality benders or jokes these days. Miss some good ol fashion monsters like 069/173/049/106

Joke SCP being too obviously a joke don't really do it for me, but I do like the SCPs that are more benign but can be humorous like 261, 999, and 2471. The reports written like "hehe it's an SCP that just talks in Your Mom jokes, hehe, I'm a comedian" are bad.
