This Super NT looks amazing and i love how it's cheaper than analogue NT !
I was wondering if you think they can do a "64 NT" in the future? I don't even know if it's possible technically but 60FPS, AA options and region free would be so great for N64 !
Not unless they use a significantly more powerful FPGA (and are wiling to charge an insane price).

I doubt the market for an N64 NT is large enough to make it worthwhile

You're right about the price but if Nintendo releases "N64 Mini" i think the hype and the market will be here.

This thread is making me really wish I could afford one right now. Hopefully they will still have some stock in a few months.

I'm more interested in PC Engine, Megadrive and Neogeo. All coming with a USB port too which one can connect an external CD drive to load CD games from (although I would prefer iso support)

Outside of Ironclad and Samurai Showdown RPG would there really be a point to NeoCD recreation? As for the PCE CD, work has been done FPGA wise to recreate/simulate it (the NeoSCD addon is prety incredible and is FPGA based. even if it still requieres a normal PCE/Core to function)

As for MegaCD I'm afraid the market is so small that few people would be interested. People still seem to believe the SCD was nothing but trash FMV games

I really, REALLY want one of these and with my tax return I can probably afford one. That being said, I've been burned on retro consoles in the past such as the Retron5 which had terrible input lag. Are there any early reviews out there that address issues like this?

Also, any chance that the NT Mini will go on sale once this is up?

Retron5 is emulation though. This isn't. There shouldn't be any input lag on this as it should function like the original hardware.

Kevtris engineered this so that there is zero lag over HDMI. The Super NT actually scans out the HDMI line by line as the console renders them the same as an analog output from the console would. The only lag you will get is whatever your display inherently has as long as you play with wired controllers. If you play with wireless bluetooth controllers there may be some additional lag, but that would be from the controllers themselves and nothing to do with the Super NT.

You should check out the Ultra HDMI N64 mod with retro mode on if you want to see some amazing scan lines:

Scanlines like this cost you a frame of lag with the Ultra HDMI mod though. Given that Kevtris helped in the creation of this mod, he was definitely aware something like this could have been done.

Not the same purpose/tools used here. Also not the same entry price either. That's like complaining your 25$ scanlines creator (device that you plug into hdmi converters) aren't as good as the OSSC or the Xrgb

To be fair there's no reason the Snes Mini couldn't have had scan lines identical to this device. Nintendo just chose to do it the way they did. The Super NT isn't doing anything special with the scan lines. They are just giving you way more options. So I'm not sure why you are bringing price up.

Yeah, as TSM has suggested, Nintendo could absolutely have implemented more advanced scanline options. The hardware is definitely capable. It's not a matter of price at all.

Actually the Super NT implementation seems to match the OSSC one (minus all the flexibility the OSSC offers). It's a Line3/4X with scanlines added and their size (from 25% to 100% I believe? I could be wrong on that one).

The SNES Mini Scanlines aren't that different from what we can find in CRT-Pi or CRT-Pi-Vertical (minus the shadowmask maybe? Are we even sure the Super NT will have shadowmasks?)

I was actually a bit concerned with how my LG oled would look running 1080p games on the Nt, I've literally been playing 4K stuff exclusively! But I have put PC/Consoles etc to 1080p, to check, and I'm mighty impressed, I'd go as far as to say it's the best 1080p upscale I've seen on a 4K set (and ive seen a few) fantastic!

if I had an oled 4k id be afraid to play this on it

too much repetition in colors and lines

That assumption's not as strong as it used to be thankfully, but a SCD FPGA replica alone wouldn't be worth it b/c the SCD was never its own console, just an add-on.

Now, a MegaDrive + SCD FPGA I think would be quite worthwhile

Good for them! I hope this is a runaway success for them.

I hope they can make the transparent one look more like the renders for future releases. From what I've seen I'm actually kind of happy I didn't choose transparent.

OK, somebody here surely ordered in the last day. What was your order number? Trying to figure out how many orders have been taken.

This is pointless, I ordered within the first two days and I have order #53xx

It's just based on the website's orders, not the units themselves (there's no way 53xx people ordered before me, and there's no way people only ordered a Super NT since it was announced)

In short the order number is going to be irrelevant and won't tell you much

There were people who ordered early on launch day and got order number 35xx, so of we would know a recent order number one could make an educated guess of numbers sold/produced?

Just for reference, my NT Mini order number was #27xx; 14 months before Super NT announce day.

My Super NT order number, from the day it was announced, is #47xx. Another friend who ordered on announcement day was #53xx.

I'm guessing a LOT of the orders were on announcement day.

For reference my NT was 21xx in August 2015 and my NT Mini was order 36xx in March 2017. My Super NT was 54xx on 10/16.

Using this logic first production would be around 5000 units.

So yeah, this sounds reasonable. It also puts the NT Mini at about 2000 units sold.

Actually given this it seems like it's about 6000 units between the NT Mini and the Super NT.

So probably about 2000 NT Mini and 4000 Super NT given the numbers we have here.

I'm guessing 5k total for all colors or 1250 per color. Like TheWraith said.

Some people order more than one.

Yeah, you are probably correct since I can't account for multiple unit purchases. So that about 2000 orders for the NT Mini and 4000 orders for the Super NT. I could easily see that adding up to 5000 units for the Super NT.

1080p is really unfortunate for an expensive device like this when anyone who can afford it probably already owns a 4k monitor. Yes, I know some monitors have no problem upscaling 1080p to 2160p, but some of them don't, and native 2160p would have future proofed it a bit more.

I don't know many 4K displays that can't upscale 1080p relatively cleanly. Look up RTings.com

Interesting. Maybe some of their orders are basically wholesale (large quantities).

I think it's also interesting that the quantities remaining in that post exactly predicted the order of sell out, assuming they started with equal quantities: Transparent, SF, Classic, Black
So perhaps there were 5k of each color? idk. Seems odd that the Black version would sell so much worse. It also doesn't make sense when you consider that the SF, Classic, and Black all sold out at roughly the same time. Somebody did a stock check a few days ago and it was ~50 units of each.

I guess when the units started to sell out people bought whatever was available and naturally all sold out.

I ordered it within just a couple minutes after the pre-order went live and my order is 53xx...

Not going to lie, I was torn on the choice between US and international colors solely on account of preferring the concave X and Y buttons. The SuFami won out, though.
