Favourite Death song is probably Perennial Quest. I fucking love Symbolic.

It's definitely one of Chuck's finest works!

Also, the Painkiller cover on TSoP is superb. At the very least, I think Chuck and Shannon Hamm's new guitar solos are better than the original solos from Tipton and Downing.

Speaking of personal musicianship, I'm thinking of getting back into playing piano/keyboard. Not the most metal instrument out there and I'd have a loooooot of lost time to make up for, but I always enjoyed playing the piano.

I like the Painkiller cover, but no way is it better than the original.

So I listened to all of your music today while finishing my last hour of work. Not typically the style I'm into but I actually did enjoy it. Even followed your page. If I were to give any critiques it would probably be the mix levels were a little wonky where I couldn't hear some things and others popped out too much, but my shitty PC speakers at work aren't helping the situation. Anyway, minor gripe. Good stuff.

Cheers. \m/

Thanks for checking it out and your feedback. Mixing and mastering is a struggle and I spend way too much time on it. That actually might be making things worse, it's tough to kind of step back from it and not listen to it for awhile, get fresh ears on it.

Little envious of those sharing stuff, firstly because they have stuff to share, but also because sharing is hard. I'm working on music too--trying for some symphonic death metal stuff--but I'm very much hampered by my abilities and equipment. Also everything is a VST because I can't play the guitar. Or drums. Or piano. Or violin. Or whatever that synth is that sounds like multiple violins going off at once but not quite...

So while I'm pretty happy with how these songs are shaping up, I also know they don't sound like actual metal songs. Better VSTs will help (I got my eyes on Shredage 2), but even then, that'll only go so far. It's a passion project for me that I'll probably give away for free or something when I'm done with it.

Learning how to death growl has been fucking awesome though, so there's that.

I have a metal project I've been working on, and learning harsh vocals has been an experience. I work at it but I'm still barely passable. I envy those who have that ability, especially guys like Ruoja from Ajattara. He's incredible. I don't work on it as much anymore as it's really tough for me to get any alone time in the house these days.

Been super into Rings of Saturn and The Faceless lately.

Being a drummer myself I love bands with talented drummers (probably the biggest reason I love metal) and the technicality in both of these bands is just insane.

Edit: Oh, and Alterbeast too. Goooood shit.

Have you seen this?

One of my favorite drum cam videos on youtube, I watch this one all the time (one of my favorite tracks from them, from their best album imo). Lyle Cooper is a monster.

I should add a question to the introduction questions. "How do you feel about the Death cover of Painkiller?" lol

the eternal conundrum when you make a great song but then make a horrible looking video clip along with it :p

Yup! Also one of my favorite drum videos, especially for Ancient Covenant as there are very few drum videos of that song on YT. Their current drummer does alright on it but not like Lyle, I was bummed when he left the band.

Although his replacement (who has also since left the band lol) was Alex Rudinger, who is probably my favorite drummer on YT. Check out his Xenochrist playthrough

Dave has sounded like shit for a long time

It was worse before they all tuned their instruments down to compensate

I think tuning them down also took away what little edge they had left, so modern Megadeth is pretty much worthless

I saw Def Leppard two years ago and they rocked pretty hard.

Saw Megadeth about six or seven years ago and they sounded awful.

I figured it was just a bad set. Dave looked hungover.
Saw Def Leppard 8 years ago and Joe was looking and sounding like he had better days. Was even some controversy they lip synced on some tv performance a near that time, I don't know. If they have improved that is good to hear as they are a top 5 band for me

To be fair to Dave, the guy had throat surgery and apparently now has a piece of metal rattling around in there. And it never sounded like he took vocal lessons prior, so im sure that doesnt help, on top of the fact that hes aging. Dont personally mind the new vocals though.

And regarding firepower:
Production is stellar, and instrumentally it sounds great. Lyrics are hit and miss. Transitions are also a little awkward. Regarding Halford's voice, i know he's famous for his falsetto, but hes also getting old and kind of lost that ability. His voice still sounds great but he doesnt need to attempt a falsetto in every song if he cant hit them anymore. He still sounds phenomenal and distinct without them.

If you need somebody to fill that gap I can try to make a habit of it. If you don't mind that my tastes usually don't align super well with the majority in here.

I don't think anyone's tastes align lol

All good. It's hard to tell when someone drops off and work definitely comes first.

Hmm, new Therion huh. Let's see, what do we have he---

...3 discs, with each being an hour long? Uhhhhh

Edit: I hope the other songs are better than this sterile, coma-inducing song posted earlier. Man, I miss 90's Therion so bad. :(

Hell I thought there would at least be some comment about the kid on a leash with a paper gimp mask lol
Or the fact that he started floating because reasons. The sword having Rust in Peaced etched in it would have been cool if the video wasnt full of references, the coreography wasnt terrible and if it wasnt in this mess of a video. Im not sure whats worse though, this or Spit Out the Bone. Im tempted to say Spit Out the Bone because at least Metallica has money lol

Love it. I have both those Autopsy albums too and they sound great. That bass gives me chills.

I need to start posting some more pics of my collection. I love seeing other people's vinyls

That feel when you see 9 left on Bandcamp, make the buy, and see 8 left...lol Finally picking up that Wode debut on CD. Was just clicking around and saw it was there for a decent price. Also came across this power metal CD I snagged too. Says its a vinyl effect which I'd never heard of. The cover art is what really sold me though. I love the line "Revenge is a dish best served ...eternally!". Pretty cheesy cover otherwise but it reminds me of an old Castlevania or something from the NES days. Music isn't bad but I'm in for the cover lol.

And finally, Gygax is back with more dungeons and dragons tunes. This doesn't come out until March but its tempting to go ahead and order. I loved their first.

Goregrind in the vein of Impetigo. No guitars, just heavily distorted bass. Very good stuff

Song of the day

Was driving around yesterday jamming this cd and when this song came on, I knew I had my song for today. Crank this up and keep an ear on the drums. Today were blasting Damnatio Ad Bestias from Desaster.

Song of the Day

I really should listen to Legend of the Shires

When this started, I was thinking this is not metal but as it wore on, it really came to life. I'm listening to their newest album now and this is pretty much what Dream Theater should be. An hour of noodling plus vocals does not a good song make. Yea their good musicians, but you have to produce something fun to listen to and they just go too far into progressive wankery which is why I typically stay away from DT anymore.

Threshold seems able to make songs that are almost power metal and that have a nice flow without being too wanky. I could work to this because the music flows well and doesn't have any weird or annoying parts that get distracting compared to DT.
