I got some Chili Garlic Cholula after seeing it mentioned in here, and if it was just a bit hotter it would the perfect sauce for me. What a great flavor.

It's seriously one of the best hot sauces I've had. I just can't find it in a bigger bottle and always have to get the small ones they have in store. The Chili Lime is 2nd best from them for me as well.I got some Chili Garlic Cholula after seeing it mentioned in here, and if it was just a bit hotter it would the perfect sauce for me. My wife is from Indonesia, and they use this stuff in the same way we use ketchup in the US. As soon as she moved to the US we had to track down some bottles of this.
I mean, if you like chili and oil and that's it. The benefit to hot sauces are the extra flavors added. Onions, garlic, carrots, fruit, whatever you want.Hot sauce in a north American sense is vastly overrated to me at the moment.
I much prefer spice sauces from say... Asia.
Chili Oil is vastly superior.
Chili Oil is a fairly generic phase I suppose as Hot Sauce is too... Chili Oil can be as plain, or as mixed with other ingredients as well... like onion or garlic tooI mean, if you like chili and oil and that's it. I finally brought sriracha few months ago and I don't get what people llik about it so much. It's not that good plus it's chunky.
I have! Make sure your kitchen is well ventilated. First time I did it, I boiled habaneros in vinegar and drove everyone outdoors in a coughing fit. (The sauce turned out pretty good, though).Anyone round here ever try their hand at making their own hotsauce?
I did one a couple weeks ago, but I brined it to avoid having to use vinegar, and I didn't cook the peppers. The sauce is good, but the remaining brine seems to separate after it sits for a while. It doesn't affect the sauce, but aesthetically it's kinda irks me. Next time I might let the whole batch sit in a jar for a couple days and siphon off the brine from the bottom before bottling.I have! Make sure your kitchen is well ventilated. Just got my shipment from Heatonist.
A quick review:
The small one, Fiery Chipotle, which is like middle of their line up in Hot Ones is nothing to me in heat. Very delicious but I could drink the stuff. I'll probably skip it next time.
The big bottle, Last Dab, which is currently their final death sauce in the show is definitely bringing some heat and made me sweat. But it's not something crazy like they make out in the show. Also SUPER tasty!. I'm definitely ordering this bad boy again. 5 out of 5 stars. Would dab again.
I went to their store in Brooklyn and picked up both of these, and I actually love them both. Also, with regards to the last dab, I assume they make it out to be super hot because at the point they eat it on the show, they have just consumed 5 or 6 really hot sauces and so by the time they get to the last dab its just that much more painful for them because of its intense heat...
Oh, and I do agree that it is super tasty.
I also tried one of the new sauces from this season, The Bronx Hot Sauce and that is really good too.
There is a Hot Sauce Expo in Brooklyn in April that I go to every year, and Heatonist will be exhibiting at, and I may pick up some other sauces from them

The history between these two companies is shitty. On recommendation from this very thread, picked up these spicy ladies:
Sharp found a distributor in the United States and began to market the product internationally. It was the first Belizean-made export product to gain wide acceptance and the only habanero-based sauce on the market at that time. In a marketing move, the distributor filed a trademark on the name. When Sharp found out in 1991 that the distributor had trademarked her product, she hired a lawyer. Because of the cost involved, travel constraints and the fact that as her sole distributor she could not work, Sharp eventually gave up the name to her sauce in exchange for a release of her contractual obligations after a five-year struggle.
My main one is still this (goes well with pretty much anything)
But from time to time I use this also
Man, that's bullshit :( Such a tasty sauce too...

Tapatio is glorious, not exactly common around here unfortunately. Was on every diner table in California :D.
Snap!
Haven't had any yet, used the gf as a guinea pig - seems hot. El Yucateco Black Label tastes like smoked soil, though - more a fan of the Exxxtra Hot one.
I did earlier this year with mostly habeneros and a ghost pepper for a little extra kick. pretty simple process, i brined mine and didn't deseed it. if i had to do it again i'd let the peppers dry a bit longer after the brine, and run it through the blender on high for a bit longer, as the texture is a bit uneven and the remaining brine separated out a little bit.Anyone ever make their own hot sauce before? Thinking of trying to make some this weekend. Hopefully I can get my hands on some scotch bonnet peppers, but habanero might be a safer bet flavor wise
I need to try this...
So how did you like the Scorpion Sauce? We've only just finished the first bottle of ours and have had it for months.
Man, I need to try this. I love regular Cholula hot sauce and I love Garlic so this sounds perfect.
It's not very hot but oh my god the flavor is amazing. If you don't like garlic this will probably taste bad.
Thought it was horrible :( Excitedly doused everything in it and it just..doesn't taste good & stings the mouth.
Might give it a more cautious whirl...
This seems more my type. There's a great little Burrito place in Edinburgh (I think they actually have like two locations and a couple of food vans too) called Bonnie Burrito and they started selling the sauces they use and goddamn I love this one. It's not super hot but it tastes so good.
