The premiere of the new Strike Back premiered to 135K viewers on Cinemax.

The first season that aired on Cinemax, when they weren't yet known for (this type:) of original programming, premiered to 567K. The series averaged around 300K L+SD viewers across its 5 seasons. The finale of the Scott/Stonebridge saga earned 286K.

That's what you get when you basically abandon your entire programming initiative for several years while you focus on righting the main ship.

Still have no idea why NBC premiered one episode on TV and then put the Olympics on and show the second episode almost a month after the fact if you don't view it online. Why didn't they just wait until the Olympics we're done and start the show then?

I think it was technically a "preview" episode, but yeah, the massive break is super unfortunate. After watching the three, it's going to be a six week wait.

What's the overall impression of AP Bio? Saw it on Hulu and was wondering if it was worth the time investment.

So the show was already on a downward trend?

Wtf at this new iteration. It really doesn't sound good. Can't believe Cinemax ended the two best action shows on TV, canned their most promising series, only to pick up a crappy spinoff and a shitty looking crime thriller.

If it wasn't tied to HBO here in Canada, I'd happily dump them. Movie selection is shit, too.

It's not official, but the Benioff/Weiss Star Wars announcement most likely means that Confederate is dead. I imagine HBO has been looking for an excuse to put it "on hold" for a while now, after being caught off guard by the completely justified backlash.
We can only hope.

I wonder why ABC hasn't officially announced the cancellation of Inhumans...
Maybe they forgot about it? I know I've tried to.

Damn. I don't even know what they're doing with it at this point, just fold it into HBO Now or something. Rellik won't draw that many viewers either, it's a pretty average procedural with a semi-annoying gimmick and a terrific soundtrack. Like the soundtrack is better than the show by faaaaaaaar.

Clark is awesome, both as an electronic artist and as a composer. I barely know what Rellik is but bought the score. His music for The Last Panthers was superb, too.

Not really. The series premiere was the highest rated live episode of the series, I believe, while the rest of the show settled around a 280-350K range, with a couple of exceptions.

Wtf at this new iteration. It really doesn't sound good.

It's actually perfectly fine. The new team hasn't gelled yet (after just one episode, gasp) but the story and action scenes are easily on par with previous seasons.

I think they're doomed until Warrior comes out. Rellik, CB Strike, and Outcast (lol) definitely aren't going to bring in the viewers.

It's not super great, but it is pretty funny and Glenn Howerton plays off the rest of the cast incredibly well. I'd say it is worth watching and has a lot of potential, but the start isn't super strong.

It's not quite as good as his soundtrack for The Last Panthers, but that might be down to me not liking Rellik anywhere near as much as I did The Last Panthers. Amusingly enough my favourite piece of music from Rellik was one that apparently was a replacement for a track the BBC/HBO Nordic didn't license. One of the episodes opened with soothing tiki music in the UK, and the version I saw opened with the soothing sound of the fucking apocalypse. One of these is immensely preferable to the other.

I'm not saying that it isn't dead by why does a film deal, that would effectively be a 'side hustle' to their 'day job' of working in TV, suggest that Confederate is dead? Either HBO will tweak the format and title and press on with the project or they will quietly make it go away and have whatever else the duo feel like making instead once GOT has finished it's run.

I caught this when it aired on Sky and it was absolute garbage. Not a patch on the original. At this point Cinemax are happy to pay peanuts for their original scripted content and have it pull in meagre ratings so they appear to still be in the original project game all the while wheeling out something 'home grown' from either HBO or WBtv every 12 to 18 months. Apparently they spent a fortune making that Tales From The Tour Bus but that was likely to keep Mike Judge happy.

Yeah it's a super weird release strategy that's for sure. I wonder if the next 2 episodes will bomb too since interested people will have already watched them.

Nonsense.

Also, by "original" you of course mean the first reboot? :P

Source? The series was a standard 'E! True Hollywood Story' type thing that was only partially animated (and very simplistically at that). I can't imagine that it cost very much at all.

I stand corrected. I forgot all about the Richard Armitage 'dark origins' of Strike Back.

To be honest I remember reading that in an interview with a HBO/Cinemax executive I just don't remember where. I've never seen the show myself but I believe they shouldered the cost of that series themselves rather than splitting it with a partner a'la Strike Back which may have been where the "it cost a fortune" came from, relatively speaking.

do we know if Altered Carbon was only 1 season deal or one of those fancy 2 season deals off the bat Netflix loves to throw around lately?

It hasn't been renewed yet. The original order was only for a first season, like most shows.

I'm guessing due to the price tag it at least gets a second season though just to help recoup costs. I'm getting the vibe it's doing better than their past expensive shows like Marco Polo and Sense8 too. And those both got a season 2.

2018 Netflix is far more willing to bring down the ax than 2015 Netflix, but I'd still be surprised if it doesn't get a second season.

Has the winners of the best TV of 2017 been declared? I voted in the thread, but I haven't seen an update and just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed it.

'Amazing Stories': Bryan Fuller Steps Down As Showrunner Of Apple Series
Bryan Fuller has exited as showrunner of Apple's upcoming reboot of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories over creative differences. It is unclear whether he will have a different role on the project.

The tech giant made deal for a remake of the cult Spielberg-produced anthology series, which aired from 1985-87 series on NBC.

Hannibal and American Gods' Bryan Fuller had been attached to the project since it was originally set up at NBC two years ago.

Fuller focused his attention on Amazing Stories recently after exiting American Gods as co-showrunner. He also exited CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery early in its development, making Amazing Stories the third consecutive series he has left.

Dammit Bryan. Just give me drama to watch on TV not drama to read about on the internet.

Also, in other news. Ivy is now a full on writer for American Gods, congrats!

Creative Differences is sure getting a lot done these days.

But I'm guessing he's just covering up for his big brother Low Budget.

Also, Apple...

Always hard to tell with Netflix but I'm seeing a lot of buzz for Altered Carbon so I think Netflix will be very happy with its performance.

The bigger question to me is do they press on adapt the next two (each quite different) novels with almost all new casts or do they just try to do more conventional "original" sequels to AC?

'Berlin Station': Jason Horwitch Set As New Showrunner Of Epix Series, or If you want to phrase it differently: THE CREATOR OF RUBICON IS DOING ANOTHER SPY SERIES PRAISE THE LORDS
The second series was already an improvement on the lacklustre first (besides the damn puns in the episode titles), so hopefully it will get even better with the next season.
He also co-wrote the pilot for Youtube's Jumper series, Impulse. Not sure how involved he is in that one past the pilot, but Horwitch back in spy mode is great news!

I still find it weird people watch Father Brown, not because it's bad or anything, but because it always feels like the BBC is sending it to die.
