Using that logic how could you ever have been excited for more Star Wars after the prequels?

Again, if inconsistencies with previous movies annoys you then how did you survive the prequels. Also, Lucasfilm is in control, not Disney, and selling merch has been a staple of these movies since ANH. Are you suggesting George Lucas didn't really care about the films and their quality?

Bob Iger himself drove down to Rian Johnson's living room and told him to move Kylo Ren's scar a few centimeters to the left. But he did this because he doesn't care. But he also cared enough to move it, while not caring.

For example, the placement of Kylo's scar is out of place in The Last Jedi. Such a little detail like that shows that Disney isn't really that caring about the films and their quality (outside of ratings), but more the money they'll bring in through tickets and merch.

I must admit I don't see the correlation between the movement of Kylo's scar and a lack of interest from Lucasfilm or Disney. As a fan of the two films they have released, they've showed me they really care about the franchise and pleasing the fanbase. As much as they can at least.

They're not involved with creative decisions though. It's like how Bob Iger doesn't tell Kevin Feige what Marvel movie to make next. Iger and co. trust Kathy Kennedy to manage Lucasfilm.

They've certainly showed us the biggest things that made Star Wars special, but I'm hoping they show us some new things in The Last Jedi. At first I didn't agree with people when they said The Force Awakens was basically the same story as A New Hope, but I really see it now. Hopefully The Last Jedi doesn't end up like that.

I'm hoping some new weapons, vehicles, and environments make it into the films soon. I think the films could get very stale if very little is actually added to the universe.

I'd agree there's room for improvement there, especially the ship design. None of the new ships introduced in The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi have matched the U-wing in Rogue One. It's the best new ship by far. You can tell they put so much time into getting it right.

In terms of environments, there looks like there will be a good variety in The Last Jedi. The crystalline caverns and red salt on Crait make for some interesting visuals in the trailers and Canto Bight will be the first time we've seen a wealthy metropolis since Coruscant. Ahch-To feels really quite unique to what we've seen in the previous films too.

I can't really explain why that story was great but I hated the similar meta-jokey ending to From A Certain Point Of View. Probably helps to have the comedy of Luke sitting there indulging that nonsense.

It's a really good book. Fun Luke adventures from the post-Battle of Jakku period the mainline comic isn't touching.

Yeah that meta-jokey style for this first Luke story worked on me so well, I was 'chortling' with mirth. That bit "Have you heard that Senator Jar Jar Binks of Naboo and Lord Vader were the same person" was priceless.

And, I agree about From a Certain POV. First chapter about Raymus Antilles was great. Next 6 or 7 were all awful. The jawa story made me want to throw the book out a window. The next one where a rogue sandwoman finds kyber crystals on the same sandcrawler made me want to light the book on fire. I'll be picking the good chapters only for the rest of that book. From the podcast reviews I've heard that there are a few great ones; Qui-Gonn/Obi-Wan, another Obi-Wan, a Yoda, Bail and Breha on Alderaan's final moments, a good Tarkin one.

New EW article and image:
In the image below from the Dec. 15 film, she and Finn (John Boyega) are piloting a craft to the casino city of Canto Bight, an interstellar Monaco full of high-rollers and dirty-dealers. Neither the ex-Stormtrooper (who's still wearing Poe Dameron's hand-me-downs) nor the grubby mechanic in her dust-and-oil-stained jumpsuit belong amid such glamour.

"The journey that she and Finn go seems pretty impossible, you can tell in this moment that she's very much aware of the dangers that they are about to face, but she's also logically in her mind problem-solving on the way," Tran says.

Leia book was awesome. I became totally engrossed by it. I read that right after Rebel Rising, which was also pretty great. Started folding corners, underlining planets and names. My books these days look like charlie and his conspiracy

it's a shame i can't do that with an audio book.

Here here.

I didn't really care about Battlefront I aside from enjoying my time with the beta because I knew I wasn't going to play it since it was MP only. All I wanted back then was SP, so I'm pretty excited about it. The campaign stuff also looks pretty interesting, too, which is a plus.
Yeah, it was disappointing there was no SP, I'm glad they listened to fans and bothered to do a campaign this time. Hoping it's worthy of being part of the canon.

Read 5 chapters of Inferno Squad on my breaks today and really like it so far compared to Phasma. I liked Phasma to a degree but thought it was about 100 pages too long.

I can appreciate a good EP3 reference

What did you think of the TV spot?

I honestly thought it was as hypy as the other two. Partially because it just completely caught me off guard with it's fucking awesomeness
Oh I love it. It's what I was hoping the international trailer would be. A few more teases but it still feels like a lot's being held back. The marketing has been on-point for all three films so far.

Getting a better look at Snoke's throne room was a highlight too. Such a unique design. I'm looking forward to poring over the concept art for it in the artbook.

Just imagine man.

That moment.

When Rey inevitably steps into that room. Fucking chills

It's interesting they're doing the Rey & Snoke confrontation in this movie rather in the last installment of the trilogy like last time. This is perhaps the biggest sign we have that things are (hopefully) going to take a different turn than in the OT. I'd definitely appreciate a surprise.

Even with all this talk about her raw strength, I don't see Rey beating Snoke on her own. Maybe Luke sacrifices himself in order to save her and then they confront each other again in the third movie?

Damn. I just realized that Snoke could die in this film. I wonder if this confrontation is happening because Kylo's going to be the main baddie. Maybe Snoke decides to kill Rey because he knows she's a threat and Kylo kills Snoke to save Rey, for some reason. But yeah I can see that paralleling too close to ESB, because then you have a "join me" scene.

Kylo becoming the top villain and still feeling weaker than Vader seems like the logical way to go for IX.

To be honest, yes, I'd very much like for Snoke to die in this film. Not only would it be unexpected, but Kylo Ren is a far more compelling character and I'd definitely prefer to have him be the main antagonist in the next movie. Snoke's death - depending on the circumstances, which will most likely involve Luke - could have a profound effect on both Kylo Ren and Rey and it would be interesting to see how it'd influence their character arcs for the third movie.

Luke Clodhopper is obviously fake but Ackbar being a puppet makes good sense

Honestly I was a little underwhelmed by the book because I was hoping for some meatier details about the post-ROTJ years. We got a little bit about Luke's adventures but I guess I should have expected there wouldnt be any big revelations considering the focus of the book. I really liked the Tide and exogorth stories since they added to the Force lore.

The Lugubrious Mote story was a waste that could have been cut though.

I'm not finished yet, but I went in with lower expectations in terms of meaningful lore just based on how the book describes itself as a collection of legends about Luke. There's a lot more meat in here than I expected.

So does From a Certain Point of View suck? I saw some negative impressions in here and that's next on my Audible list.

No I won't go as far as to say it sucked. I've read the first 8 chapters and listened to a bunch of podcasts give their impressions. I loved 2 of the 8 chapters I read, the first - about Raymus Antilles and the 8th chapter about Qui-Gonn written by Claudia Gray. From what I understand, there are several more great chapters in the book.

I can tell you that I absolutely hated the 4th chapter about Jot the Jawa and the 5th chapter about a sandperson who finds a freaking Kyber crystal on the sandcrawler. The other 4 chapters I read were just ok.

The parts I read are a little too meta on the nose with filling out details and kinda turning old old jokes and memes into semi-official stories.

I will definitely get thru the good chapters I've heard about first, and then maybe come back to this later.

The Luke book first chapter is great tho. It has the same kinda meta jokey meme type things in the story but it's being told by a conspiracy nut who basically sounds like us wondering if Senator Jar Jar Binks is the same person as Lord Vader and wondering about the differing accounts of Han Solo being the type of person who shoots first or not. It's poking fun at us and that makes me laugh way more. 2nd and 3rd chapters are some straight up really cool Force mystical hoojibbery that I've really liked.

I've only read two new EU books - Lost Stars and Thrawn. They were both good, but they could as well be a part of the old canon.
Whatever I try to read something about the 'core' characters of the series it just feels so wrong. I've tried to read Aftermath when it went out, for example. It starts with Wedge doing odd stuff, and I couldn't focus on anything because i've been reading the X-Wing books regularly for the last decade or two and seeing stuff that contradicts it is hard to swallow.

Do you guys have this feeling? How do you cope with it?

You just get over it eventually, really. No different than any other alternate universe/reboot.

Haven't experienced it yet. So far I've only read Thrawn, Tarkin, Ahsoka, A New Dawn, and Battlefront: Twilight Company.
But that doesn't sound too promising. I've read quite a lot of the old EU books (including the X-Wing series) and if the new books contradict with the old ones, I'll probably skip some of them.

There will only be more contradictions going forward as they flesh out the post-RotJ period.
