Do you get offended if white people throw a Mexican themed party filled with the usual stereotyped clothing and whatnot?

Caballeros del Zodiaco o Dragon Ball Z?

That's asking between your left or right arm.

Nope. Most people here wouldn't care. Hell, most would ask if they can join the party lol

Anybody a fan of mariachi? What would you recommend as an example of the best the genre has to offer?

I love el Clasico Mariachi Loco!

My aunt lives in Monterrey, NL and tells us not to visit as it's too dangerous. Is that true?

The only marichi song is the first one, the rest are cumbias lol

The best mariachi csong writer was Jose Alfredo Jimenez, but the best singers are Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete both from the "golden age" in Mexico's cinema and a more modern one could be Vicente Fernadez.

I love it, even knowing the first song is the only mariachi one! :P Thanks for sharing.

Thanks as well! I am gonna plug all of these names into Spotify and YouTube.

Another music question: What's your favourite version of Cielito Lindo? I heard that song when I was young and it always stuck with me. I actually heard a rendition played on the radio (in Spanish, even!) at the Walmart where I work in my little town in NC, USA a couple weeks ago. Was really cool.

Food question: The chorizo available at my job is the kind that is not pre-cooked, comes in an artificial (probably plastic) casing tied with metal that you have to take off before using. What would Mexico ERA say is the best way to cook it? Whole, ground, etc? Cook as-needed, cook in bulk then refrigerate, etc?

Food question #2: There's a tienda Mexicana next to my job that I want to frequent. What would you say are essential items/brands I should buy to add an authentic Mexico twist to anything I might make at home on a budget?

Also: Horchata is GOAT

Its a cultural thing. My mom would not want me to visit Mexico after Trump was elected as she was afraid they would not let me back into the country for x or y reasons. They really like to overblow circumstances around.

It is true that in the last few weeks the amount of murders have risen dramatically. This could be related to a change in the organized crime that exists in the city. But normally, depending on where you would stay, it's quite safe.

Chorizo usually comes in pig intestine not plastic. It's edible. You can remove it if you want to make the chorizo break down easier while cooking. I usually remove it if's it's fresh chorizo since it just slides off but leave it on dried chorizo since it can be a pain to remove sometimes. If it has those metal things then it might me plastic, idk since i don't buy packaged chorizo. I highly recommend avoiding any pre packaged stuff if possible. It's usually all fat and breaks down too much imo. You can cook it how ever you like, you can ground it, break it into chunks and let it fall apart as it's cooking, cook whole like hotdogs (this is amazing on a grill during the summer by the way), etc. Cook what you need imo but understand that chorizo dries over time so maybe don't leave it for too long otherwise you might just throw it out if you don't like dried chorizo. You can buy fresh, dry, semi dry, etc. chorizo in stores if you let the meat person know.

Do girls still celebrate their quinceañera? I occasionally see a whole gaggle of teenage girls in what appears poofy wedding dresses here in California, and am shocked that this is still a thing. Does anyone else get kind of creeped out that parents basically are saying that their young daughter is a woman at 15?

I don't mean any offense, and am trying to understand the culture.

Yes they do. Tough I know some parents that have the financial resources for that kind of party sometimes ask their daughters if they want the party, or use the money it would cost for a single gift.

It does not bring any benefit to Mexico. Illegal inmigration will continue to happen because cheap labor will never be rejected in the US, and will find a way to happen no matter the restrictions.
exactly what I thought, its stupid how they think it will actually take the "problem" away.

You guys made me notice that even if I've lived in Mexico for like 25 years, I know nothing about the music, futbol, television, or pretty much anything produced by Mexicans that isn't the glorious food.

and I'm 100% okay with that, I only need our glorious food.

Oh, I forgot all about the cost. A hasty internet search says that it can cost from $5,000 to $20,000. Multiply that for each daughter. Holy shit. I don't know if El Salvadorians don't celebrate quinceañera, but none of my cousins had one.

Not only that. A new fad started a few years ago. Cincoañeras. I'm not joking (I wish I was).
