If only rotten tomatoes scored foreign movies as well

I know there are too many, after all bollywood and nigerian film industry alone released at least 1500 movies combined only in 2017.
If there is one thing I really like the most of the Videogame industry is that is less American centered than the movie industry.

I'm happy for the financial success of the movie. We need more movies like this, so that we can further representation of minorities in media.

However, the movie itself is average at best, and would be an above average Marvel movie. The only better Marvel movies are Guardians of the Galaxy 1, Winter Solider and Civil War.

I walked out after 10 minutes so I don't know if it is the best movie ever. The thought of all the poor little racist's being hurt at the thought means I am ok with this though.

Yeah the hyperbole is going out of control.
It's a really good movie, but it's not the best movie of all time, it's not even the best Marvel movie, though it has the best Marvel "villain".

Why did you walk out after 10 mins?

Edit: Saw your response. Be warned, the opening fight scene is dark as hell and hard to see on any screen. It was one of my complaints in my initial impressions. Thankfully there is only one other similarly overly dark scene, but yes, they definitely should have been better lit and filmed.

I liked it a lot more than all previous MCU movies

This one was like, actually interesting and creative IMO

Really glad this movie exists

The fact that - if we include Black Panther - more than a third (7/20) movies on that list were released in the last three years shows a huge recency bias in RT scoring. It's why bringing it into any discussion of movies more than a decade old is a waste of time.

Sorry folks I won't let y'all take the joy from me. Movie was amazing from start to finish. Looks like we still have that underlying bigotry from Neo Gaf.

The hell? No one is trying to take anything from you, it's just obviously not the best movie of all time and it doesn't make me a bigot to say that.

I guess it's just how RT wants to do things, but I'll never understand placing movies that have just released on 'all-time best' lists. Give it some time, damn.

They weren't always like this, but it's the time we live in now. Gotta get those clicks ASAP. Pretty good movie, but yeah, it just came out.

I thought The Winter Solider, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok were better. The Winter Solider is probably the best of them all too. While this film was good, in the end it just fell back on the same template used in most of the Marvel films, which by now is growing pretty stale.

Not America
It's one of the better movies I saw recently and perhaps one of the MCU movies because like the first Cpt. America and Iron Man, this one has an underlying message (something that has gone missing from recent MARVEL entries).

Best and highest rated are not really the same thing to me. I would imagine some reviewers are now going to rate it poorly so it drops a tiny bit and the original movies are put back in place.

I actually heard that with gaming whenever Ocarina of Time drops to two a few small outlets review it and give it a 10 just to put it back on top. I don't think OoT is the best game ever, but it certainly was revolutionary for many reasons chief among them, to me, being Z-targeting. I remember being more hyped than anything in the world for that game and because I absorbed so much about it beforehand I was totally let down. The same thing happened with Half Life 2. I don't think I was surprised by anything in either game because I saw everything on the internet beforehand.

In related news, Will Smith recognizes the greatness:

Long live to the king. WAKANDA FOREVER.

Damn, Will looks like he's ready to play Obama. That would be epic

This is the moment where the internet begins to turn on Black panther
Amazing film but when this hyperbole starts , and anything gets too much love

"The internet", at least a chunk of it, was against Black Panther long before it released. The hate has been there, the success and praise are making certain people uncomfortable, but these are the same people that were hurt that the film had excitement around it before

Weird, I'm not sure I even liked at as much as one of the less impressive comic book movies like Antman. Maybe I was overhyped. Wonder Woman was also better imo.

I guess the fresh rating means "percentage of people who didn't hate it enough to give it a thumbs down" And yeah, it's not really a hateable, devicive movie at all, a solid 6/10. If 97% of people give this thing at least a 6/10, who am I to disagree.

Poster straight up said it is average at best as a film, which is what I was responding to. That's nonsense and I don't feel the need to elaborate - they didn't.

Rotten Tomato score and rank does not equal "best of all-time".

No MCU movie is even in contention for the best movie of all-time, c'mon.

And Get Out at #5 I see. Sigh.

BP maybe "overhyped", but I'm glad it is because it needs to be a hit.

Like Wonder Woman, the film didn't have to be a masterpiece(it isn't), it just had to be good(which it was). Really the point of these films is to help pave the way for more and potentially much better films with POC/Female leads and casts.

It's still funny how people keep insisting that "the praise is out of control!!!" without realizing A) the list was generated by an algorithm and not a conscious roundtable or vote by critics, and B) the overwhelming majority of fans didn't agree with that placement anyway.

I also love the "I understand this is a watershed moment in black cinema, BUT-!" posts. Not inspiring confidence there that this film's success doesn't bother you.

Yeah, Thor was better too. Forgot to include Spiderman now that's in MCU. Black Panther is definitely in the upper echelon of Marvel movies.

because we don't think BP is not the best movie OF ALL TIME , we're bigots?
I still see blanket statements made it across from that other site..
I'm not talking about you. We have another thread/s where folks were talking side ways. Had to step back from the website. But we do have some bigoted people on this website that have an underlying problem with the movie

the very beginning of their post you quoted was "Rotten Tomato score and rank does not equal "best of all-time"." so i assume they do
But that's what RT is doing, just ranking movies based on RT scores and avg review

I'd get the whining if they made articles saying "this movie is the best because look at these figures"
This is just a sorted list

Percentages aren't a good way to measure how good a movie is considered. The BP average rating is way more indicative of what critics think of it.

The fact you have 3 films from the classic era of hollywood in the top 5, and then 2 films from the past year only goes to highlight shortcomings of the RT ranking system, and potentially reflects changes with how online critics are impacting review aggragates (would need figures)?

Obviously both are socially important and progressive films, but you don't have to be a film academic to understand these two films don't stand above their peers as exemplary film making.

Get Out lacked bite, but was none-the-less brave and compulsive viewing. It was fairly formulaic otherwise.

Black Panther is an MCU movie.

So if you don't think a Mahvel Studios movie is the greatest movie ever made, that means you're a racist?

it's almost like art is subjective and giving arbitrary reasons like "these films are from the classic era of Hollywood" for why this piece of art doesn't deserve to be ranked high is stupid

honestly, it's a stupid ranking list; nothing to get your panties twisted about because recent groundbreaking films rank higher than old films many of you probably haven't even watched

Whilst it may be subjective, it is also possible to apply academic, knowledgable analysis to cinema.
So if I say Freddy Got Fingered is the greatest piece of art from the last 100 years of movies you don't think my subjective opinion can be objectively deconstructed, challenged and ultimately proven wrong? What's that saying: If everything is beautiful, nothing is. Or whatever.

honestly, it's a stupid ranking list; nothing to get your panties twisted about because recent groundbreaking films rank higher than old films many of you probably haven't even watched

You never saw Third Man or Wizard of Oz?

It's an influential film review aggragate site that just ranked a superhero popcorn flick as #1 of all-time. It's a stupid list, alright, little more than a marketing tool for the latest blockbuster.
