I know the comics don't do this but remember before Negan showed up and they didn't know who Negan really was? What happened if they killed Negan but then the REAL Negan shows up and says, "Ha you only killed one of my underlings. I'm the real Negan." Like it's his FINAL FORM. lol it would fit in with how silly this show has become

It would fit with the Negan theme but so many people would be pissed.

The commercials are just the worst on this show. I actually hate when I see an episode over an hour because I know it just means an extra 20 minutes of ad time.

I thought it was a good twist revealing that was Carl's dream future and not Rick's. Although Carl was a little too far gone if he actually believed Negan could peacefully coexist with them.

Also, how did Ezekial, Carol, and Morgan not see that kid walk up behind that Savior? lol

same as zombies coming out of nowhere

If the show dosen't end by season 9 or 10 this is the kinda shit that will start happening.

Like the second half of a 12th season would def feature robo-negan. Carol would then transfer her consciousness into a roomba. Daryl would fuck the roomba.

i must be the only one happy carrrrrroooool is dead terrible actor and his character was annoying he literally died from a level 1 zombie. but yea most drawn out death ever!

also damn they even skipped talking about it on talking dead..
the last scene with rick sitting against the tree it looked like he was shot in the stomach.. -_-

cant say i even missed the show the dialogue and pacing of the show is sooo bad.. but guess ill stick with it until this season is over it looks like its andrews last.. if that was foreshadowing the season finale im done when he dies.. i dont even care about any characters but rick, daryl and maggie...

I only wish we got to see Enid say goodbye.

And the rest of the gang have a more impactful goodbye, Daryl acted like he didnt give a shit.

Gawd that "best friends" scene between Carl and Michonne really got to me. Danai is so good. Carl's death isn't sitting well at all with me though. Feels like a huge portion of the show's hope for the future died with him. Sure, it lives on in Judith, but I always imagined Carl by her side to protect her. :(

I feel like Rick looked 10 years older in Carl's dream while everyone other than Judith looked exactly the same.

The new Siddiq guy seems nice. I liked when he told Carl he would "honor" him. From the show's track record I assume he'll do so by getting his face eaten off in the next episode.

I'm tired of Negan. I don't want Rick to grow farms with Negan. I don't appreciate the writers using Carl's death to plant this "peace and love plz get along with everybody" bullshit in Rick's head when Negan clearly needs to be deceased. Fuck Negan.

Hey

Andrew Lincoln is a good actor but

Danai Gurira stole the damn show. She got me close to tears.. phenomenal performance.

When she said "you're mine" to him, shit man that hit me so hard. Great transition from "you're my best friend too" to "you're my fuckin' own".

Dude who plays Carl did much better than he normally does. They should not have mixed the shit going on with Carol/Morgan with Carl, that fucked the tone up a lot.

Damn.. where's everybody at? Thought this thread would be crazy active considering what happened tonight.

Reflecting on this episode.. very very uneven and poorly paced, tone was all over the place. But I'll be damned if I didn't well up a few times. The callbacks to the prison..

When Carl recalled Lori telling him he'd "beat this world", then passing the hat to Judith.. telling her he won't, but she will.

Some really fantastic moments in this episode. It's so weird to see some heart in performances again. Echoes of better times.

Was decent.

I called for them to kill Carl for like 7 seasons, but now I am a little sad to see him go. I thought they did a decent job at making it emotional.

Will continue watching.

When Carl talks about gunning down a kid who was trying to surrender, did that actually happen on the show? He sold it really well, so much so that I thought "I don't remember that happening, but it must have".

It wasn't for shock value. Killing Andrea was for shock value.

Yes, in episode 16 of season 3:

A fleeing Woodbury soldier named Jody stumbles upon Carl and the others in the woods. Jody is told to drop his gun. Instead, Jody holds the gun in his hands and slowly walks towards Carl, saying to "take it." Before Jody gets too close, Carl shoots him in the head, killing him, leaving Hershel and Beth shocked.

Everything involving Carl was fantastic. Andrew, Danai and Chandler all put in top tier performances.

But if any episode was going to leave out cast members, this was the one to do it. Going back and forth between the Carl story and Morgan story was terrible. What made it worse was the fact that the Morgan plot had unintentionally funny moments. The little kid stabbing Gavin through the neck was terrible and dumb. The stealth involved, the perfect stab through the neck despite being much shorter, the way it was shot. Awful.

And then it's back to fantastic acting and an emotional goodbye.

Even when the show has the absolute perfect set up for a home run, they somehow manage to botch it somehow. It needed to be a regular length episode and it should have focused on the events at Alexandria alone.

But aside from that, I think this was a bad decision. I am running out of characters that I care about. And soon, we'll be losing Morgan. Potentially Maggie. And I'll no longer get to see one of my most wanted arcs from the comics now that Carl is gone.

This was a good episode. But it could have been amazing, maybe a top 5 episode in the series. The pacing was poor, the back and forth was awkward, the flash forward reveal was a complete cop out.

And I do not feel good about the future.

I just didn't feel like killing off Carl was necessary but that's just my opinion. I just feel like way to many good characters have been killed off at this point.

The Morgan subplot has taken away a lot of the emotional impact of Carl's death. Furthermore, it felt really silly at times. Carol and Morgan taking out people stealthilty was almost like a videogame level. The moralizing wether to kill Gavin or not after killing dozens of his men was laughable.
Aside from the early seasons, I haven't really enjoyed the subject of moral in this show, it tends to feel forced. And Carl making Rick promise to stop killing makes me scared that I'll enjoy the show significantly less in the future. I am not looking forward to even more people arguing wether to kill or not.

I enjoyed the episode overall but I feel like they had potential here for a 10/10 episode, but sorta screwed up with the pacing and awkward editing and ended with a weak 7/10.

I think it was necessary in order for them to achieve the outcome that they wanted for the arc -
getting Rick to spare Negan. I really don't see how else it could have been done. Like, I had always assumed that Morgan's death would act as the catalyst, but thinking about it now I doubt that would have been enough. I know Rick and Morgan are bros but would his death really have lead to such a profound shift in character for Rick? Post-All out War Rick occupies a very different space than Pre/peri-All out War Rick in the comics, and if they're wanting to do that on the show, then it was always going to have to take something big to convince us.

It would be stupid but I wouldn't be surprised. This show is known for stretching out story beats paper thin, I mean if they can stretch out a death scene to 60+ minutes super negan for a few seasons is fair game at this point.

Killing Carl was, quite honestly, the dumbest thing they've ever done. If that end scene is an indication of Rick leaving, I'm officially done.

At the absolute best, Carl was just dead weight. I can't recall the last time he ever had a meaningful story or arc. People seem to want to romanticize his existence on the show, but practically speaking he existed only as a motivator for Rick and not much else.

I will keep watching but if they end up killing off Rick then I think I'll be done with the show. I wonder if Fear the Walking Dead is worth watching. Seen season one but never felt compelled to watch more.

I just can't buy Rick going from "Doing all this shit for you" to "Ill realize your (unless I missed something, very sudden) dream" because Carl died. Ricks done some pretty fucked up shit to secure a place for his family and if it wasn't for Judith (and I guess Michonne now) I just couldn't see Rick even bothering anymore.

Fear got better in later seasons.

Are you sure? Rick looked like he was hurting/bleeding out.

He was using a cane in that vision...

It's weird because, on top of the fact that everyone hated Carl since forever, people are always complaining about plot armor. So then they kill off the character with the most plot armor of all - in a meaningful way that will impact the future of the show for years to come - and like suddenly everyone is upset? I'm convinced that people only want the opposite of whatever the show gives them.

Riggs does okay when he's given some real content to work with...and it's a shame they boot him off the show right before that content would be a possibilty. Him and Holden were done dirty, both by getting terrible writing thrown their way and how they tossed them out.

My thoughts exactly. Danai was excellent and Chandler was the best he's ever been.

When Carl recalled Lori telling him he'd "beat this world", then passing the hat to Judith.. telling her he won't, but she will.

That was great, especially since so many people mentioned that scene when we first found out Carl was bitten. It's nice to see that the writers remembered it too.
