After spending most of the day setting up and messing with the X, here are some thoughts:

- Face ID is pretty damn slick. Don't miss Touch ID at all.
- Speakers are nice and loud. Didn't expect them to be that much louder than my 7 Plus.
- Animoji's are really fun to mess around with.

- Phone is a bit too small for my taste. Hope they offer a Plus model next year.
- Hearthstone is way too small to play on this phone. Here's hoping for some good Black Friday deals on the 10.5" iPad Pro.

My banking app that works with Touch ID will not work with Face ID. I thought that was supposed to be a thing.

So, after spending almost 24 full hrs with this thing, I have to say that I am really impressed with it. It does have some minor issues, but nothing that would detract from the overall enjoyment of the phone.

+ Screen is gorgeous. When I am using the phone, I barely even notice the notch.
+ FaceID is pretty good. Works about 90% of the time. I was trying to get it to work when I had my sunglasses on, and it was hit or miss...
+ Going between apps is very quick and there is never really any lag.
+ Camera produces some amazing photos.
- downloading an app is a chore. You have to select the app, then double click the side button, then scan your face just so that it will download. Not sure why you have to go through all of that for free apps, but its a pain
- reachability... why would they make the contact point for the swipe down gesture at the extreme bottom of the screen. Sometimes when I try to access the top row and I try to bring the screen down, I end up opening one of the apps that are in my dock.

The phone has been out for a day and most devs don't bother taking the time to update until there is mass acceptance. It will take months for apps to catch up and get updated, just like with Touch ID, just like when there is a res change, just like there is when there is a screen size change. Always happens.

it's supposed to be automatic though

and it is for almost all apps that support touchID. You just get the face ID prompt while the app says you are enabling touch ID etc.

I don't know what bank Proteus has, but Citi app did the same thing. When I first opened it they had a prompt saying that face ID would be enabled soon, and there is no option to turn face or touch id on. It seems they updated it specifically to disable Face ID

I haven't looked into the docs, but it might be that an app has to be republished with the latest SDK first in order to get that automatic switchover.

Probably a bunch of legal paperwork stuff for them to support face id.

Anyways this is how I hold my phone and its definitely not 1 handable. Or am I 'holding the phone wrong'.

Yeah, I think I can safely say the Plus size model was easier to one hand.
Its that they but control center in the top.

Ok happy to report that disabling attention mode lets FaceID work no problem with my sunglasses on.

Edit: sorry for DPing guys. Still getting used to the forum.

Ha, I almost drove myself crazy looking for it, but you have to update to the latest OS. It didn't ship with it.

But its just FaceID + Passwords once you update.

I'm surprised people are turning it off. I actually like that it will only unlock when I look at it, way more secure. I like that notifications are locked and hidden unless I look at them.

No, it really just is not a one handed phone, but neither was the plus.

I too enjoy that extra level of security, but during the day when I use the phone the most, and I have on my sunglasses, I do not want to have to keep taking them off just to unlock my phone.

Most likely doesn't have to do with Face ID or Touch ID. The Capital One app just straight up stopped working on my 7. Kept giving me "we don't recognize that information. Try again." or something. Even deleting the app AND my fingerprints never worked. Restore the backup to my X and Face ID works perfectly with it.

My guess is it's a problem with your banking app, not with the Touch ID/Face ID authentication.

PNC Bank app? Bank of America app is working fine, but PNC isn't. I don't expect them to update it for a long time after seeing how long it took them to add Touch ID.

I kinda went back and forth on this but my phone never leaves my side so I've been enjoying it much more with attention off. Good option to have though.

Yes, and it was completely hit or miss... I am rocking a pair of Ray Ban P sunglasses, so not sure if its the polarized lenses that are causing the issues, but I'd say it only unlocked 3/10 times... If I read anything on how to unlock phone with sunglasses, then I will turn that back on.

You can just tilt the phone a few degrees back and it won't read you.

According to the Apple Store employee I was chatting with today, they update their store inventory around 6AM, so you can check online around that time to see if you can order a phone for in-store pickup later that day.

I'm looking to find some sort of video that I can watch on the X that will really show off how good the screen is... is there something on youtube I can watch? I searched some 4k videos and the ones I found aren't even outputting to 4k on my phone, so I am not sure if the youtube app is not supported with the X yet...

Youtube apps won't serve 4k content if a device doesn't have a 4k display.

face id has been really inconsistent for me. Sometimes it's super fast, but a lot of times it's not and requires adjustments as well as clicking the sleep button and trying again.

YouTube used the codec VP9 for its 4K video which no Apple platform supports. So that's not even a YouTube update, either Apple has to change iOS to read the codec or Google has to use a different format

Easiest thing to do is rent a 4K HDR movie off iTunes and have a good time

What is the top right icon when you are unlocking Face ID. its hard to describe its like two Lines and one circle on the top left line and one circle on the bottom right 2nd line.?

And how do you know if something is playing in HDR content on Netflix? etc>

The .mp4 files will play on the phone but you're going to need to use a computer and iTunes to transfer the file.
iCloud drive might work as well.

Love the phone, coming from the 7 Plus. I do not like the wasted space in the additional screen real estate. Eg: Messages, the area below the keyboard is ugly and a waste of space. Feels weird with the keyboard floating.

It's ugly but it would be pretty weird using a keyboard at the very bottom with such a tall phone. Like it would be unbalanced. It pretty much puts the keyboard where it used to be but there's only a minimal bezel now instead of a big one so it looks off.

hmmm could be due to the higher resolution? Regardless its just a bummer that the software feels so behind this year. Apps optimized for iphone x are slow to boot, apps that aren't are slow to boot.

The complete opposite of last year where ios 10 basically made all phones snappier across the line lol.

I love the phone, just a tad heavy.

TouchID? Don't miss it at all so far, FaceID is faster overall since it auto logs into apps I'm using. We'll see how it performs on my desk at work. I'll probablu be using the passcode.

Battery life has been fantastic. Went to an event tonight where I was messaging and taking lots of pics and battery hardly went down.

I personally wish the lock icon on the lock screen was smaller. Looks a little too cartoonish to me.

This seems likely. Just tested a demo model (which definitely does not have Apple Pay set up) and it turns the screen off instantly. Maybe waiting a beat to see if there's a second press for payment?
