Really digging the game. Battle system is really fun and when it gets flowing it can really look good. Im at chapter 7 and I think the story is slow but, pretty good. I also watched kingsglaive so there is that.

Buuuuuuut... What the hell happened to the side quests.. Jesus christ they are... Horrible. Get this stone for me? Get a second stone for me? Third? Fourth? They seem never ending. My god... Are there any lists or guides which list the quests worth doing? If there are any..

The sidequests in this game is just killing monsters, don't expect meaningful sidequests.

This is due to alot of reasons actually, one of which I think can be seen when using Armiger Unleashed which doesn't seem to entirely have this issue. Generally though, 90% of FFXV's combat woes like this are because of the way the game attempts to be realistic.

In FFXV, Noctis' sword actually has to physically hit the enemy, which is why attacks wiff so often in this game. You can also see the animations dynamically shift in order to make sure the strike actually touches the targeted enemy. Also, large enemies have multiple hurtboxes and targeting points, which makes actually hitting enemies a complex thing when you're literally standing under their legs.

In Kingdom Hearts, Sora's hitboxes are massive, and enemies generally only have 1 hurtbox regardless of their size. You'll also notice that Sora's entire body will shift in order to position against the enemy he's fighting.
Man, my thoughts. This right here is one of the biggest problems of the battle-system. If larger monsters had just one big hitbox and target in the center basically, maybe even blocking you off from ingwalk between their legs and awkwardly get pushed around by their body parts messing up your targeting and collision detection, it would already make fighting larger-sized enemies much smoother. And similarly all Techniques should connect with targets regardless of whether or not they actually physically touch the target so you don't end up with whole attacks going to waste because of wonky pathfinding and collision detection causing your party member to get stuck somewhere a feet away from the enemy or not reaching it because the target is just a few inches too far above them.

It's these small things annoying me in FFXV that could relatively easily be fixed and would improve combat a lot already. The more I think about it now I actually would've welcomed getting a true sequel with a completely overhauled and improved version of this battle-system instead of 2 years of several smaller DLCs. Considering that two of the best battle-systems in the series were in direct sequels, namely FFX-2 and Lightning Returns, I think a FFXV-2 could've been great too.

CID for weapon upgrades
Cindy for car upgrades
Catching frogs quest chain gets you a ribbon that makes you immune to all status effects.

Hunts get you cash and better armour as you level.

The rest just do what you want a lot of them give shit rewards

Side quests are what kills the game for me (nearly). I don't mind fetch quests at all. Simple tasks that encourage you to explore the world I think are actually a good thing, but you need to use story to make them feel like you're getting a reward. FF14s are great as each quest is a mini story. FF15s are devoid of that.

Got to try a summon for the first time on PC, and as soon as all the summon-related effects went away, my framerate tanked from 55-60 to 10-15. Had to restart the game for it to fix itself. :T

There would be sessions where I went "This is a sidequest day!" and just put on podcasts while going through them. Most are tedious and not really fun

this is one of the worst final fantasy games i've ever played.
-sidequests are complete trash
-massive beautiful world but its filled with nothing and there is pretty much nothing to do with it other than run around. reminded me DA:inquisiton. i arrived in beatuful altissia, spend like an hour there and left already, what the fuck.
-main story is incoherent, abrupt nonsense full of super short cutscenes. i am at chapter 10 and it feels like story barely began, yet i am 2/3 to the end. what the hell.
-combat is super uninteresting and whacky
-everything is a chore starting from running around, day/night trash cycles, inability to hold more than 1 quest marker on a map and bajillion other missing QOL features that boggle my mind

i wanna replay X and 13 again, rather than play this to the end.

after just finishing trails of cold steel 1 and 2, this game is just super bad. looks nice, the only good thing about it

Niflheim soldiers are annoying. They kept jumping down from airships when I was exploring Leide after beating Chapter 2.

Whomever it is who's doing these endgame battle themes is just too good.

Chapter 14 now has these 2 gems right before Hellfire and then the Old Wall gauntlet

I know this wasn't Shimomura, it sounds like the same person responsible for the Daemon themes, Hellfire, and Ravus Aterna?

Well, just finished my second playthrough.

And uh, honestly? That was fantastic. Like really, really absolutely fucking fantastic.

I already liked the base game, but with some of the issues, if I had to give it a *score* it would've been in the 7.5 range. I personally LIKED it more than a 7.5, but if I had to be fair and critical...

However, the new Royal content additions, I think, ironed out enough to where I don't really have any great story or pacing issues. Expanding the finale the way this does makes the linear part on the train after Altissia feel less of an issue, and makes the buildup to the final battle far more epic and effective. I loved the bosses when you actually enter the building, the last one in particular looked amazing and it just, I dunno, made everything again feel bigger and more epic than the base game.

Something I love about Final Fantasy of past was the big final area and bosses leading to the final boss, and while the execution, IMO, of the expanded map wasn't perfect and I don't love the visual scheme of the final area (it's just kinda bland, ruins, blah blah), it's still a huge improvement over what it used to be, and I felt like it got the climax to the point where it should've been all along.

I still don't know how I would rank XV with the others, and I think that's alright because it's pretty much its own beast. Something I took away from this replay was how interesting the world is. I think it's really cool that it feels like an ancient, "old school" Final Fantasy WORLD, just set far in a modernized future where cities and establishments have covered a lot of it up, but it's all still there. I like how for example there'll be like, a gas station but right around the corner is some forgotten fantasy dungeon or temple, like Costlemark.

Anyway, great game to me. It's incredibly ambitious, and that's a good thing to be, even if there are stumbles along the way. The gameplay is a lot of fun, and I don't really want the series to revert back in any way. If I had to suggest a potential XVI, I would say keep a lot of what's here, even if it's a new setting or even if it goes back to being more old school fantasy based, just... do it right the first time with some more polish.

Just some quick thoughts after having completed the new content and my first replay. I loved it. Well done team. I'm glad they stuck with it and didn't give up after the vanilla release. I understand why this is annoying and a letdown for a lot of people, but man, this is really worth another look now for people who didn't love or even like it the first go. It may not completely change their minds, but it's in a far better state.

Now? It's probably an 8.5 or even a 9 if again I'm being a bit more critical, but my experience with this replay was an absolute 10 and I think it deserves to stand with the best of the series.

Decided to mess around with the Regalia Type-D before setting sail to Altissia since I didn't use it much on console. Just driving through Duscae and jumping off of cliffs is so much fun. :D

One thing I certainly felt with this game even before the new content was that I was truly sad to leave these characters behind.

When a Final Fantasy game makes me feel THAT in the end, I consider it a good installment. XIII, though I did enjoy it, did not give me that feeling.

And while I think XII is a great game too, and I really liked its characters a lot, it didn't quite make me *miss* them.

XV does such an incredible job with the writing, voice acting and development, along with the emotional detail the story brings that they feel like another group of main FF characters that I'm gonna miss.

It would be cool if someone compiled a list of all the references to older games, like a bestiary with side-by-side comparisons with the 8-bit and 16-bit monster designs for example :P

One thing I certainly felt with this game even before the new content was that I was truly sad to leave these characters behind.

That's a good way of looking at it.

I felt exactly the same way. XII and XIII made me feel nothing for their characters.

XV on the other hand... I hadn't felt such a connection to the cast since FFX.

I love XII, and I liked the characters plenty. It's just that in the end, I dunno. It kind of lacked that emotional oomph that usually makes FF casts.

They were good characters, but beyond Ashe and Basch they didn't really receive any emotional development that made me deeply care about them. They're FUN characters that were enjoyable to be with, but the story didn't do enough for them.

Whereas with XV, having a tighter knit group that were all very fond of one another from the get go, and the story beats after the Altissia events that stirred up a lot of problems and obstacles for the characters to overcome... man. That's really excellent storytelling. I know people are down on the linear part of the game, but I think it was intended to take your experience of the open world and the characters being all cool with one another with little debate into this extremely dark path where the villain does everything he can to dismantle the group.

And that's what also helps make Ardyn by far the best FF villain since Kefka. It's not even remotely close. I mean, I like Sephiroth because he's cool, and Seymour because he was pretty lowkey and neat, but Ardyn actually has a fantastic backstory, motivation, and the psychology he presents to the linear part of the game makes it so dark and depressing.

I think FFXV has the most lively cast in terms of how you interact with and see them during normal play.

It's the game that captures the feel of running around with a party of friends the best out of all the party based games I've played so far.

It's interesting to think back to the early days where a party was something you only saw in battle or during cutscenes. It eventually moved to some games having your party members follow behind you in a line. And then after that having your party members follow you but wander at times.

I like all the little details, like how they'll run with you but they often vary up how far/close they are to you. How they'll do things like moving back to Noctis during battle as a defensive gesture. How they'll run off on their own to investigate and/or point out things. All the contextual dialogue. The hundreds of different animations which definitely play a big part in making every member of the group feel alive.

I'm hoping for their next FF game that they make the party as lively or even more than the FFXV cast.

Agreed. For example, which other Final Fantasy cast would actually "fit" in a fan art like this?

I'm so happy the PC version was released so much later than the console one. Played the game at launch on PS4 and loved it, but decided to wait for them to polish it a bit. Little did I know that that little polish would go such a long long way.
I don't regret my earlier purchase. Being a passenger on the hype train is part of what I love about gaming, and let's face it, there was no way I could resist after such a long wait. Playing the PC version now that the game has got that extra year to truly realize its potential has been a real eye opener. I don't feel angry about double dipping either. The game is so good that they deserve to be paid twice, in my opinion, not to mention all the extra content in the Royal Edition. This is beyond one single game now. So many AAA titles get away with offering nowhere near as much for the same price.
It has been said time and again that if this game were called anything other than Final Fantasy, it would have been considered one of the greatest of all time, and I couldn't agree more.

What's the best way to earn exp and AP at post 50 levels?
Here try this:
I only played this originally when it first game out back in November of 2016 before all of expansion pass content. I did take advantage of some of the content that slowly rolled out at the time such as some of the time limited event such as the Moogle Chocobo Carnival. Although there is no telling if this event is likely to return for FFXV Windows Edition owners.

Anyways one of the most notable things I learned was Rare Coins and Debased Coins are extremely important for fast leveling and are to be never sold for money. 8 Rare and 24 Debased of these can be used to become Expericast Spells which give a fixed amount of exp when casted against enemies. 12 debased silver pieces, or 16 debased banknotes also work.

Rare Coins can be farmed in the Cleigne region. Find a shining blue farming location and simply save your game. If it's not a Rare Coin when you pick it up, reload the save and try again. 8 rare coins gives 96 exp rank and +2 casts, but 24 debased coins gives 96 exp boost but +6 casts, so if using debased coins, use in the highest multiple of four up to 24 you can.

Don't use more than what it takes to get to 96 exp rank. The difference between 96 and 99 is small. Using a 9th Rare coin for an additional 3% is wasteful because the coins give 12% each. Better to save the 6th.

Expericast spells give you a flat experience bonus when immediately casted on enemies. Strength of the spell has no bearing, so using a strong Firaga spell will not give you more experience than a weak Fire Spell, so basically use 1 Fire element and the required amount of coins to get a bunch of weak fire spells. Also using these against a strong enemy won't give you more exp, So using these against weak enemies is quicker and has the same result.

Earliest time to do this is Chapter 3. Create your Exp Cast spells. Visit Wiz's Chocobo Ranch and eat the Triple Decker Sandwich for 50% EXP Boost. Go find weak enemies like Sabretusks around Hammerhead with EXP Boost active. spam your EXP spells on weak enemies as fast as you can.

Expericast gives about 140 EXP per level so at Lv. 96 that's 13,440 EXP. with 50% Food that becomes 20,160 EXP and using the Inn at Galdin Quay is 100% which means 40,320 EXP per cast.

You get 5 Casts using 8 Rare Coins (3 +2 Bonus). So that is just over 200,000 experience points.

Later on in chapter 9 once you reach Altissia can go Maagho's Bar and eat 100% EXP Boost Lasagna and the Altissia Suite is 300% EXP which doing the same gives you just over 400,000 EXP.

I think doing it earlier in game at Chapter 3 with 16 Rare Coins to get roughly the same amount of exp for the time you get to Chapter 9 might be worthwhile.

200000 EXP is enough to raise your ENTIRE party from level 1 to 41.

I originally did this super late in the game, but even so the results speak for themselves - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfMVzzo5_ic

If you don't care about game balance and want to power level through everything, use this if you like. If you want to take your time with the game, ignore this.
Also for AP try using the monster whistle and the Ragnarok sword with low level enemies by spawning them successively.

Only fix I saw was this posted by Iangi: https://www.resetera.com/posts/5380708/ although I couldn't use the camera during the boss fight.

Are you referring to another method?

Well I haven't tried it but if Prompto taking a picture with a filter breaks Ansel, then I would think disabling the filters would stop it happening altogether.

You can turn them off in the Archives section of the party menu.

So are the lyrics in Apocalypsis Noctis/Aquarius/Magnatus Japanese or Latin, or what?

My headcanon has always been that the choir is chanting the names of the Lucian kings in order, and now I'm actually sort of hesitant to even ask because that's so conceptually awesome that I'd be saddened to learn it isn't the case.
