So it seems when you Family Share the game you can't download the high-res pack o.o Oh well does it have a big performance impact if any at all? I'm planning to play till Chapter 3 atleast to see if my 37fps lock holds up.

So yeah, crash again... I disabled high quality assets and VRAM usage still crept up to almost 8GB even after again dropping TRAM to Average, just took more time, total memory usage which was at 15% (2.4GB out of 16) before I loaded the game, stayed at around 45% for a while but it too started climbing, I think it was around 55% before the crash, one of the error codes can be related to faulty memory so gonna to do a scan of my RAM and VRAM tomorrow and see if that could be the issue.

Posted on the Steam forums, tweeted at the main guy who does their stuff on Steam. They don't seem to care about it sadly.

I can confirm the fps drop after summoning is real. I was playing until you trigger the first, mandatory summon for the story, after that I needed to quit the game because it became unplayable.

I am kind of torn. I recommend to have it on because there are some micro crevices and stuff on noctis where you can see the SSAO doing its work (like between his armpit on the jacket... but you are right). The AO radius is rather huge on it!

I will recommend leaving it on for now, personally to cover the corner cases... but I am now less... sure?
That's part of the issue IMHO. Using traditional SSAO with such a huge radius just causes too many artifacts, especially in motion.

By the way, here's a pretty good recent presentation on all things high-end AO.

Yeah Nvidia's work on AO has been amazing and enabling HBAO+ into older games via Inspector can make a huge difference even it means dealing with some bleeding. I'm surprised they didn't offer HBAO+ as an option for FFXV too but maybe they've improved VXAO's footprint enough so that it doesn't cost significantly more than HBAO+ does.

Once again... Crash, looking through my event logs again... There could be an issue with my virtual memory being too low so I guess I'll raise my PF size and see what happens but also again, I'm seeing VRAM utilization going over 7GB on High, I lowered TRAM to average while in game and it dropped it to something like 6800MB but as again, I was in a reasonably long fight (I'm counting any fight five minutes or more, I'm still on effing chapter 1) it still crept back up over 7GB and crashed shortly after the fight ended. Gonna disable the high quality assets setting or whatever it's called and see what happens there.

Fake Edit: I checked my Page File size and apparently I set it allocate between 200MB and 2938MB which is the recommended amount and is currently at 1098 so, hmm... I'm going to raise it to stay at the recommended size as not crazy about the idea as I am since I run it off an SSD. Looking at info in the event log though, the game was using over 17GB of memory, WTF? Using that much system memory AND 7GB of VRAM is ridiculous. Maybe my PF isn't the issue here...

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Real Edit:

Yeah... As I just mentioned and have mentioned more than once before, something doesn't seem right. I'm going to see what happens with the higher quality assets turned off.

EDIT2: Oh yeah, this probably explains why shit was being forced to close...
You are not alone, the game is really picky with its V/RAM usage. I had to put back Swap to Windows controlled or I'd suffer from crashes, and that even with a manually set 10Gb Swap. Out of my 16Gb physical RAM, I once saw the game tapping more than 3Gb in the virtual memory pool, that's pretty insane all things considered.

edit: On the bright side, it looks like a patch is on it's way.

Was about to post this since i just experienced it minutes ago, yeah FPS drops to 15 no matter what config/resolution you are on. Alt-tabbing and going to fullscreen doesn't have any effect either.

That's a bummer, the issues seems to stem from the way they set Steam to handle the high-res pack like a separate game somehow than to classify it as DLC under the DLC list. It doesn't bother me too much since as said I'll buy the game myself at some point anyway but I might wait for the first sale since I already have the PS4 Special Edition so right now I'm treating the PC version more like a tech-treat.

On another note to everyone who suffers from generic-controller icons, make sure you connect your controller and have it turned on before you launch the game then the correct icons should show.

Yeah I thought it might be a Ramuh related effect but I can confirm it happens with Titan too. I'll just assume all Astrals have this bug then.

Wow like everytime? That's a huge bummer, how nobody from the dev team noticed it is beyond me.
Just like how they didn't noticed their game had no virtual keyboard, you have to use Steam's Big Picture mode to name your avatar on multiplayer DLC's Comrade, otherwise the game doesn't record your keyboard's letter inputs.

Huh I hope they'll fix those issues asap. It's weird as it seems to be a pretty competent port from what I've seen so far.

gang, i changed some settings and stuff in steam and now i cant figure out why my xbox controller isnt working perfectly. The xbox 360 (wired) prompts dont show up anymore, and everytime i try to run with noctis by pressing the left-stick down the keyboard pops up. and some of the buttons dont work anymore.

i was attempting to 'remove the steam overlay' or something, because I was told that improves performance, or something! lol. anyhow, any tips on how to resolve this? I like the xbox prompts but if they have to go, no huge deal. main issue is getting rid of the dumb keyboard popping up and buttons not working right. Help appreciated!

P.S. - PC gaming is truly another world. Seems to be full of advantageous but im not sure I like the huge variations in things that comes as a consequence of configuration differences.Oh well, 60+fps and sharp visuals for FFXV seems to be worth it

Have a play around with the controller settings under Big Picture Mode. I sometimes find Steam is overriding my 360 controller and emulating it as a Steam controller rather than just letting Windows do it as a 360 controller.

That's weird, it recognized mine. Didn't have to use Steam's to type my ava's name.

Could it be related to keyboard layout? It would be weird because I was able to suppress and confirm with the keyboard, but the game would't record any character input, be it letters or numbers, numpad or not. Copy/paste didn't worked neither. Several peoples reported the same issue on Steam's forums and Reddit.

Not sure. Have you been using that special K fix? I' m also wondering, how wide spread is that summoning bug? I'm not quite there in the game yet. Is everyone experiencing a stuttering after a summon or is it more contained than that?

I'm sure they'll want to patch these as soon as possible. Square would be foolish to promise long-term mod support while at the same time ignoring serious bugs such as those.

Character inputs issue happened both with and without Kaldaien's fix.

It definitely feels like there's a memory leak. I start off with 4.5 - 5 GB VRAM used and after a bit it's maxed at 6GB (980ti) and dropping settings does nothing to reduce it.

Let's see if they'll address all the issues in the next ATR. We should then have an idea on how serious they are with this port.

Game has some weird pop-in issues when zooming in with the camera in certain areas. Also happened at the end of the date with Iris, trees in the background randomly disappeared, then reappeared again.

Objects pop-in in this game is literally crazy. Nothing worse than spending few seconds framing a shot then a ghost bush suddenly came to view. Right in front of the car.

Also for everyone with Ansel color problem, Prompto camera filters bleed into Ansel.
To fix, take shot with Prompto cam using NO FILTER, then quit, and bring up Ansel, it'll be correct again.
When Prompto AI taking shot, Ansel color will be weird again. Do the steps again. Remember you must take shot, simply choosing no filter and quit cam menu won't correct Ansel.

So I downloaded the hi res pack and the game wouldn't recognize it. Tried unchecking and checking the install checkbox and now it's trying to download it but I can see the folder already has the 60+ gigs in it. Anyway to prevent the download and make it use what's there?

I found another bug: I was fighting Melusine for a while, since I couldn't beat her during the night she despawned, respawned and started the fight again.
During the fight I summoned Ramuh, usualy shit with fps going down, but I kept on playing because I've almost defeated her...and than the game literally stopped.
Fps literally reached single digits, something like 1 or 2, I managed to save my game and stopped playing.
Dunno if it's related to the summon thing, because after 15 minutes I noticed fps went to normal again, just to stop after 5 minutes or so.

Great job, as always. And, yeah, this confirms what Kaldaien said too. I'm currently having the issue where clothing (and sometimes things like car tires and whole characters) are stuttering erratically every once in a while (from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending.) I think it may be due to a fluctuating framerate, but I hope not. I'm using a G-sync monitor I just bought, and one of the big draws was being able to run games at any FPS and have them remain smooth/free of insane drops when they can't quite hit a consistent 60fps and go into the 50s occasionally.

I'm also getting performance that isn't consistent with others. I get anywhere from mid 40s to high 70s, with some sharp drops. The settings are pretty much set to high, 1440p, with Assets on and the Nvidia additions set to off.

My rig:
GTX 1070
i5 6600k
16GB RAM
500GB Crucial MX500 SSD
165hz 1440p G-sync monitor

I've tried adjusting every setting, and the insane drops still happen (though the min is higher.) But I find the things that really affect performance that (and that I keep off) are:

Shadows on Highest
TAA Anti-aliasing
Nvidia Gameworks options
Resolution above 100%
Motion Blur

But even with these (and others) off or lowered, I'm having issues. It's really starting to hamper my experience, TBH. :'(

Don't know if this is common knowledge yet but you can actually enable to increased draw distance and ground clutter that Assets [ON] gives without the burden of 4k textures (if you're GPU can't handle them) if you turn 'HighSpecAsset' to =1 in GraphicsConfig.ini and set it to Read Only. It will still show up as OFF in game but the difference is very clear.

Decided to see what this game looks like at 1080p... and holy hell. Now I see what people are talking about this game being so blurry. Changed it back to 4K pretty quick.

Hmm, alt-tabbing seems to force some sort of continuous mouse and keyboard input sometimes. Whenever I try to use the controller afterwards I get a huge amount of hitching and the button prompts switch between controller and m+k. I've tried disabling mouse input and keyboard input in Special K, but I'm still getting that issue. Anyone else experience it?

The game doesn't like alt-tabbing when you have special K installed. Before I installed it I had no issues, but afterwards I get an issue every time I do it.

Most commonly I get a black window with the game running underneath (you can hear it if you mess around with the controller) and you can't get picture back without resetting.

With a 144Hz g-sync monitor, should I change the refresh rate to 60 for a smoother experience since my settings are all aimed at trying to hit 60fps? I've tried changing the refresh rate between 120 and 60, and don't notice much of a difference.

Remarks:

I simply cannot reach 4K60 without a higher overclock. The frame pacing simply wasn't consistent enough. The performance could be better with overclocking, but I'll be needing a new PSU before anything else. With the game running, I'm already pulling close to 700W, and my PSU is only 860W. Maybe next month. For now, I'll have to settle for 1440p.
