I'm going to go out on a limp and say that Dillon and Dark Souls may have a solid shot at making the roster.

Man, I couldn't be more excited for BOTW Link. I've always felt like he was one of the more uninspired Smash characters. I really hope they finally redesign some of moves to fit his BOTW persona. No more boring bow/arrow & boomerang.

I hope we get a Zelda newcomer who ISN'T some variation of Link, Zelda, or Ganondorf.

So I assume that everyone's expecting Spring Man to be the next obvious newcomer?

Pretty much this. Spring Man, and Rex+Pyra to a lesser extent, are where our "duh" roster picks end.

The only potential problem would be if Sakurai decided the roster for the next Smash in 2016 before he knew of the existence of these characters, but I figure that's a slim chance.

Considering Greninja's inclusion was planned beforehand as placeholder, I'm sure that there was communication between the different divisions at Nintendo for their new fighting game getting representation in their flagship all-stars crossover game.

Sweet this thread is actually going to get some life thanks to the new announcement.

On cuts ideally I want none. For this series that has historically tried to provide as many bases from previous Smash games now suddenly deciding to cut characters would be wack. The only way I'll accept cuts is if they go full GaaS and provide the Smash 4 vets that got cut as free updates and use the base game development to focus on a core roster that got changed and tuned up. Otherwise if they have to consider making those characters paid DLC or worse just gone overall this game would already be a massive step down from Smash 4 which already had a near perfect roster.

On Corrin as someone who picked up the character after DLC finished I got super attached to the character. They really do have a great and well thought out moveset and they are an absolute joy to play and they were pretty good characters so unlike my previous main Shulk where I had to use so much tech to make him usable Corrin felt so much more easier in all the right ways. On top of that due to them DLC there's probably a good amount of people that never got to try them out at least Ike got 2 games for people to try out and enjoy wheras Corrin was put out at the end of Smash 4's lifecycle and while they were a solid character they also didn't have a huge representation. So yeah I think Corrin should come back if nothing else at least as my aforementioned free DLC idea if they want to trim some of the fat for the base game.

Fuck springman, should be twintelle. Also sakurai changes his mind Everytime so Ridley confirmed, his Samus returns design is pretty scalable.
I'd like Urbosa to play as most but I wouldn't mind Mipha in the game so I can KO her with Zelda over and over again.

This would be really really cool. Damn. This just jumped to the near top of my list.
I've wanted a zora character in smash so long to finally get it and have it be Mipha.. would be bitter sweet.

We don't know--they're just credited for the "Original Game" (meaning Smash 64) like they always are.

All signs point to the game being developed by the same Bandai Namco team that made 4.
Did HAL co-develop Smash 4 or was that just Bamco with Sakurai overseeing development? And Sakurai is director of HAL right? What happened to Sora Ltd.?

Smash developers have always confused me lol.

Sakurai left HAL after Melee and formed Sora, with his wife I guess? He lead the Bamco Sm4sh team.
Man, I couldn't be more excited for BOTW Link. I've always felt like he was one of the more uninspired Smash characters. I really hope they finally redesign some of moves to fit his BOTW persona. No more boring bow/arrow & boomerang.
Not a chance in hell.

We literally see his bow.
On the other hand it would be cool if they made it work like in BotW. Slowing link's movement down when using it midair combined some aiming (or at least shooting diagonally)

Let me clarify, I mean the no-frills, super basic bow & arrow that couldn't feel any more tacked on.

My biggest complaint about Link's fighting style is that much of it feels obligatory and uncreative. That's mostly a criticism directed towards his B-Button moves. The current bomb, arrow and boomerang just look and feel so unsatisfying to use IMO.

I only partially agree with you.
Bomb is a fun special. But wouldn't be against some buffs.
Bow is fine, but if you added my suggestion above + some aim while grounded it would be perfect.
Boomernang i could agree that it doesn't feel that great, but I personally have a lot fun with it's wind effect
It's actually his up special that is my least favorite of his specials, I wouldn't have problem changing it to Gale+Glider or something.

While it could use some tweaking I don't think his moveset is the main problem. But it's rather that his framedata and stats are awkward/bad, which is further exacerbated by him having a clone.

Yeah, I think they could rework some of those moves to mimic the functionality they had in BOTW. I really hope we get remote bombs. Kinda home his sword beam replaces his boomerang too. Glider could be cool if they chose to remove his hook shot.

Like one of my favorite ideas for him is still bomb arrow (that using bow while holding bomb puts the bomb on the arrow). While sword beam seems cool, I feel that it would be a much worse zoning tool than the boomerang. And nah, I want Glider and hookshot.

Both are ideal, foresure. I think BOTW Link works so well because he's is overburdened by design. Having all these weapons at his disposal is part of his charm and it you don't even have to suspend disbelief.

I think Link will have the Master Sword but he'll have the circular shield he has in the promotional art. It would be cool if they gave the Master Sword the glowing effects when an evil character is on stage.

I know this won't happen but I would love of their were a lot of character skins in this game. Link has a ton based on Breath of the Wild alone. I really just want Barbarian Link in this game.

Down b should be a remote bomb, up b in the air the paraglider, on the floor ravali's gale, neutral b should be stasis, and side b should be controlling his sword with magnesis

But seriously even with Botw Link it makes no sense replacing the bow. Because even in the context of BotW, the Bow is more Iconic than any of the runes.

Other than the stupid looking shoes, ZZS in Smash 4 looks a lot better than in brawl. And the shoes+bracelets would in my opinion look much better just by recoloring them to match her suit (Dark Blue & pink rather than Dark Grey & Yellow)

Did anyone else think ZSS's official Brawl art was kind of weird looking?
