Getting back into this has been a joy. There's something about the open world reminds me of the american Midwest(at least that's what it looks to me) which makes exploring and traveling around all feel so cozy.
Maybe it's the large number of deliberate visual references to the American midwest. This game is absolutely a metaphor for Japanese college broskis going on a cross-US road trip in a big ol' 'merican car.

I need a mod that gives everyone's Magitek Exosuits a bit of individual flair, because I refuse to wear anything else but since everybody looks the same things can get confusing at times.

Steyliff is much easier with the ring one-shotting the flans. Regular tonberries are still hard as ever.. well... maybe not as hard as annoying because of how much health they have. Links helped out there for sure.

Just got insanely lucky with chocobo raising. It had a cap of level 80, but it only got exhausted twice during the whole thing. I trained with 57% exhaustion several times without getting injured. In the end he had 250+ Stamina and Jump and the 70mph speed needed for the final map unlock. That's higher stats than a lot of level 99s I've seen in videos. Unfortunately I still haven't caught any chocobos able to level to 99 and I messed up the first black chocobo.

I really wish there was a better questlog... Like categories so that all the weapon upgrade ones are split into their own corner and also something indicating when a quest is complete and that you just need to turn it in (instead of having to read the description).

Yeah, my 3rd chocobo got 360, 360 and 115. Had about 50 more chocobos after that and none of them got close. Luckily you don't need a full team of 99s to beat the arena battles if you use your skills right.

Yeah. Just got a level 99 blue chocobo with around 380, 270, 85. With him and my level 80 and two mediocre level 70s I was able to beat the Chocomaster battle pretty easily. I'm gonna try to get some more level 80s at least before I tackle the Chocochampion battle.

With this though, I'm back at 100% trophies. Just need to beat the level 99 Ifrit and Bahamut battles to have done everything.

Finished the Menace Under Crestholm dungeon. All that's left is Costlemark round 2. I don't know if I have the patience...

Any suggested equipment/gear loadouts for that nightmare of a dungeon, folks? Apparently I can't use items at all?

Just beat the Ifrit rematch on my first try. The guy I got teamed up with died about two minutes in and I did the rest of the fight with two AIs. They were surprisingly hardy though. They survived most of the fight and were able to get me out of danger lots of times. I ended up winning without even using my food to revive. Now I just got Bahamut left.

Food is a big help. Lasagna will give you big stat boosts and immunity to most elements, so it's real good. It's especially good for the final and mid bosses of the dungeon who rely on massive AOE elemental damage. Sushi is also real good. It'll give you 100% crits and hugely boosted stats which makes the fights much faster. The ring is also very useful. You can use it to easily wipe out half of the floors without even fighting.

You could also make use of the Magitek Exosuit on top of food and just breeze through it. I still had about 25% power left after my last run.

Uh, you forgot the most important thing: healing spells^^ Only had to use them once though. Don't know what people found so hard - I breezed through it easily. There are more than enough save points every few floors.

Yeah dude. Those Dolce's that are immune to all physical attacks and used to take like, 80% of an MP bar to kill with the ring now die instantly. I didn't even use the ring on anything else my first time through lol.

can't wait to experience the improved ring.....been going through in full again since the royal launch and am currently at chapter 6 before the split.....all the new changes come end game excite me a lot.

The new ring changes sound fucking awesome and I can't wait to wreck face come chapter 13 with it.

Vanilla version of that dungeon was not easy, so much has been fixed and added since then its a completely different experience. I only remember it being challenging but fun.......

Is there a list of new content/cutscenes/dialogues they've added to the game since 2016?

I'm currently in chapter 13 now, and sometimes I wonder if a scene/dialogue I'm watching is a new addition or not.

I actually kinda liked the original chapter 13 though. It'd be a slog to have to replay like that, but it was good the first time I thought. With the new ring it trivializes it. Like, the hiding spots become pointless cause you can just use death on all the troopers to kill them in a few seconds before they even get to attack you.

Yeah. The original chapter 13 played up a certain feel. The Ring was already stupid OP. Pre-patch ring was a nice way to include a really neat weapon into the game without just making it a completely optimal strategy against 90% of the enemies in the game.

I'm home.
What a joy it has been playing this now. I remember being confused and not satisfied, and very sad the first time I played this back in 2016. Seeing all the new things in the Royal Edition was fantastic.
And I feel like played the ideal way, playing episode gladio after chapter 8 and promotion, ignis and comrades after chapter 13. Everything made so much sense now. Also, I feel like you really gotta ignore all of those stupid side quests.
Last but not least, they fucking nailed chapter 14. So all in all I'm really glad Tabata didn't give up on the game like so many. This is now a game worthy of the name Final Fantasy.

To be fair, the MA-X Angelus basically isn't fun to fight without it. I tried to fight that thing legit for 20 minutes without making any appreciable progress and then just went 'fuck it' and Alterna'd it.

I have FF XV digitally on PS4. I'm considering buying a physical copy of the Royal Edition and redeeming the code and then trading in the disc. Will I be missing any DLC doing this?

So uh... I'm level 49 and i'm on the Sword in the Waterfall quest... Am I overleveled? lol.

I think though, that while I am overleveled... I think the reason monsters 11 levels lower than me are still difficult is my gear. I don't think gear really scales off of your level/stats in this and so if your gear sucks, your level isn't going to matter all that much.

Really cool how changing characters gives you their DLC playstyle. Prompto can use his SMG and a rocket launcher which is awesome. Does take a long time to reload though.

Wat :D Why not just get the Royal Pack separately ($15) to upgrade your base game (and the Season Pass ($25) too if you don't have it yet and want it)?

Season Pass + Royal Pack is about the same as the Royal Edition at many retailers, so why not? The DLC from the voucher should be fully compatible with the digital edition of the game.

Did you try magic or a ranged weapon? This happened to me before and I was able to solve it, but I think I used a spell.
Yeah, tried everything I could think of, nothing worked. It was the first cube puzzle room, so it wasn't such a huge loss.

However, what was a huge loss was beating Costlemark in my level 1 run, going to the camp and forgetting to equip the nixperience band without saving first. :(((

I wonder if someone might be confused when buying the Royal Edition pre-owned in store and not realise that the new content comes in codes, and when they boot up the game they are confused as to why the new content isn't available.

Oh man. What the hell. Got with a really good party on my first try against level 99 Bahamut. We got him down to about 10% and all still had food, then he wiped us all, and wiped us immediately again. I thought it was in the bag. Apparently his strength rises throughout the battle. Too bad it's so hard to find a good party. You get 45 seconds for people to join and then you're stuck with AI. Quite possibly the worst matchmaking of all time.

Whew, Costlemark Tower is no joke. I fought two rooms with 3 red giants plus the snake lady (in addition to other rooms with red giants) and then was running lower than I'd like on supplies so bailed. Gained like 4 levels from all the experience though. Just bought double the supplies I had last time and am about to do it again.

But why go through the hassle of buying something physically and then resell it again if you could just buy the DLC separately digitally? And nah, both SP and RP together are 10 bucks less than the RE, which is probably what you would get for the RE without the vouchers if you traded it in.

I'm in chapter 7 or 8 and not really having much fun with this game. I'm finding the story pretty interesting but the small bits of story I get are broken up into a 5-minute car drive, a 5-minute walk or a long load screen. The initial load is very long for me like 2-3 minutes and the thought of having to sit through that every time I want to play has honestly stopped me clicking the icon on my desktop. So many side quests to do too but fast travelling everywhere going on a run and sitting on more load screens to complete them isn't much fun either.

Not having much fun with the combat either just hold a button down, die sometimes, use a potion and proceed to hold the button down. It seems pretty braindead. I'll probably power through it because I like Final Fantasy games otherwise I would have dropped it already.

Try pressing instead of holding the button to attack, and time your evade in-between enemies' attack. The depth is there, just see if you want to dig through the system.

Are you playing the version which allows you to change characters in combat? Like Promto makes game into 3rd person shooter

I've gotten to the point where I think I'm good enough to beat Bahamut as long as there's someone around to get me out of danger asap. It's so hard to find anyone though. I had 3 people on my first attempt where we practically won. Then it's just been 2 person parties since and we can barely get him half dead.

Whoever Ender is, we've tried like 6 times now together lol.

Oh... Wow. Yeah I kind of did like almost every side quest I could do and then slept at the 2x Hotel and gained 230K exp and went from 35 to 49.

I want to do all of these hunts and side quests but I think I might just go do the main story for a while. I imagine I can go back after the ending and do anything else I feel like?

Bunch of PC Ansel shots from around the forum. They're all resized down to 1080p and chucked on imgur - (Sorry, I'm aware of the quality hit on both of these; just wanted an ez link to showcase some PC IQ that's also mobile-friendly. I'm so bad and lazy I forgot to even make note of who took each screenshot so feel free to send me hate mail (they're mostly from this and the general PC screenshot thread))

Also is Cid's quest stuff based on Main story progression? Cause I've done so many quests and it still says he's making me wait.

No. It's based on, bizarrely enough, hunt completion. Do two or three hunts and then camp and he'll call you to tell you he's finished with his work. Also, none of his upgrade quests will progress while Iris is a guest in the party, for whatever reason.

Yes. If camping doesn't work, try resting at a hotel. And make sure you turn the hunts in. And as before, if you have a guest in the party (or are down a member for plot reasons), Cid won't call you.

Just beat level 99 Bahamut. Discovered that the fight is rather easy if you use Untouchable. It makes his BS hitbox moves all easy to dodge, and it makes countering those divebombs to put him into vulnerable state easier too.

The two Dagger key items you get unlock Tenebrae from Ifrit and Gralea from Bahamut as birthplace choices. Apparently they give significant boosts to your magic and attack power respectively. As far as I know, there's no way to change your birthplace without starting a new game though lol.

I'm with you bro I made it to level 70 on that Quest. I finally moved on is I couldn't find anything else to get experience from anymore that was still getting optional Quest done.
