I haven't played a baseball game in ages. The last one was Konami's Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu 2013 for PS3 and my last MLB The Show was actually back in 2010. The 20% off discount code makes this year's version really tempting though, since I feel the itch to finally have a baseball game for some chill sessions again. As you can tell, I haven't really followed the last MLB The Show releases, so a lot of the things mentioned are quite new to me. The Road to the Show mode sonds intriguing, but there's also a mode where I can just play with an already established franchise through a whole season, right? Kinda hoping I can put some the Japanese star players into a single team (will probably be a pain to get them during trading though). Would be baller to have Tanaka, Darvish, Otani or Ichiro on the same team, hehe.
Looking forward to some impressions and gameplay streams once the game launches for the people who have pre-ordered it.

Ah, screw it, decided to pre-order it. I used to love baseball games, but haven't played one in like 10 years. So at the very least this should feel pretty fresh.

Smoak was great last year. Glad to see him in the top 10. I haven't been following Reyes much since he left the Jays.
Man oh man these programs are overwhelming. Worst part is that you don't really know which ones are due to turn in. The need for stat tracking missions has never been greater.
Second, man it's fucking me up to see these 85 diamonds and 79 silvers. I know they still have similar stats, it just looks really weird.

Really love the feel of the pitching so far. Animations and the general look of things is much more lifelike and natural.

FYI, it sounds like season mode was removed from 2018 if that is a game mode that interests you. There was no mention of this leading up to the release of the game.
First one I'm not buying since like 2008. Franchise has gotten really stale gameplay wise and graphics wise. I don't play DD either so there just isn't much meat on that bone anymore. Baseball's my fav but there is just too much other stuff to devote time to than The Show anymore.
There are so many missions and programs. Seems like half the time will be playing the game and the other half will be checking the 35781203571230710 programs to see if I've made any progress. It's a little much.

There should be some sort of indication of a completed step. I wonder if they can patch that in?
Couldn't disagree more, I actually came to the thread to talk about how great I thought it was. Glad they're back to using real highlights, plus I loved all the Little League stuff. Way better than last year (or was it the year before?) when it was all in-game assets and barely any / no IRL footage.
I know it's probably just because of the early launch for preorders and everyone being at work right now, but all of my online games has been smooth as hell so far and I'm loving how fast you can move between menus (programs and card inventory, which were slow as hell last year)
Also I got lucky and pulled Lou Brock but I don't know if I should sell him or hang on to him. Since I didn't mess with DD much last year, how did prices generally trend for the weekly advertised special players? Did they go up over time as new packs came, or go down since anyone who wanted a certain player would have probably bought him earlier?

Probably not, because I don't think they had any kind of alert like that last year either. At least none that I noticed.
I thought I saw a video and read some news on how they were bringing in a "3 inning game" option for the people that don't have a lot of time to dedicate to a full 9 inning game. You would play the 3rd, 6th, and 9th innings specifically. I thought this would be nice to use in Franchise Mode, the mode I play the most of. Although, I guess it was mislead articles, because I don't see that option anywhere.
I wonder if it was all just referring to the Conquest and Battle Royale modes in Diamond Dynasty. Which is a downer for me, because I thought they were always set up like that.

Yeah thats crazy. I always liked this series cause they didn't just remove modes even though probably not a lot of people use them. I myself never really used it, but i also don't play DD much either.
Disappoiting to say the least. The worst part is, they never said anything beforehand.

bleh fedex delayed my delivery by 1 day.. at least, package is still in PA... I get the feeling I won't even see it till monday, so much for early access. fedex sucks smh

Same here! FedEx did the same thing to me, it is in PA as well, and they projected it to Monday so far. I called Best Buy and they gave me a $10 credit, so I ultimately paid $38 for the MVP Edition.
The game was shipped out Wednesday morning too. Get it together FedEx!

Edit : Don't know if it's more animations or the little animations after every swing that shows where in the swing you hit the ball..etc but it makes me more aware/as well as proves the animation for ball path is on point
It is much better. The ball has more weight off the bat, and the physics are night and day better. Also the fielders feel like they have more weight to them too. The gameplay, graphics, and presentation took big steps up this year at least.
Seems like Best Buy and Sony are having issues with their codes for full game and preorder bonus. They shipped physical copies, some received today, some delayed via FedEx like above, and all codes sent out don't work. What a complete crapshoot by Sony and Best Buy.
Got my copy. I set up my Diamond Dynasty team and got a quick Conquest game in. The Cleveland Atari Jaguars are off...to an 0-1 start as they lose to the Yankees 2-3. Oh well, at least I got a trophy for giving up a home run to Aaron Judge.
Finally home from a long day at work, so I can finally put some hours into the game. First impressions are really positive. Hitting feels really good and I think it's going to be way harder to field an end game team in DD
Contacted Sony, They did have issues with Best Buy codes but should be rectified now. If you preordered from Best Buy I would recommend contacting their digital code team and you may get a kick back if you complain $10 to $20 gift card.
Do you think they'll ever implement actual minor league parks into the game? That would be the next step for me. I'm tired of "The Porch" and other generic fakes.
Yeah, but the release is in 3 days and you can't order/preorder it on Amazon. That's weird as hell. You can preorder games like Days Gone or Death Stranding, but no MLB The Show 18 in sight.
