Like anything above 1080p for me has significant input lag despite the rest of the game running fine.

When a boss deals 3 damage to you and dies in 10 seconds, you know something's wrong.
I would kill for a mod to remove the victory screen. Most of my fights right now literally take longer to load in and load out from the world map then the actual map itself.
Insane.
Nononononono. We were just comparing the character intros. In this game, they seem to introduce characters with a 5 second voiced cutscene, much like Lunar, before going back to the in-game. Except Lunar has more voice acting and better dialogue and characters.Whoa whoa whoa. What talk be goin on in here about one of my top RPGs of all time? Ni No Kuni giving off Lunar vibes or something?
Yeah, it really makes no sense and makes you completely uninvested in the characters, particularly Roland.I feel they cut some stuff in the beginning. It feels so sudden.
Extremely apt.If you take away the visuals and presentation this is a 5/10 experience for me.
Damn shame. A huge step down from the first. Combat was bad, sure, but this replacement to super easy mode is just... I shouldn't be able to kill a boss with two special attacks. Wtf.
The quests are just cringe. I feel like I am playing a 2005 era jrpg from the bargain bin.
Because a lot of people here don't play JRPGs often, I'd reckon. Just on the hype wagon.
Sound defensive but this community and the site it originated from are notorious for having uninformed people misjudging games. They'll buy it because it's the latest hot thing but in truth it won't be for them. The game shouldn't suffer because people want to be wave riders.
This made me LOL. Good show sir.
I would not be shocked if she's still alive. Why didn't Nella jump down the cliff with us? Why didn't she run, grab, and roll rather than run, push, and stop? She clearly had a mission to get herself killed. I knew it from the moment she joined but had no icon or HP meter but it didn't need to be so obvious.
Yup, if you don't see a character die in a JRPG, it's safe to assume they are still alive. Hell, even if you do see them die, they may come back!
Just wondering how many hours you put in?Just checking in on this thread one more time before I'm out, as I'm not playing this game anymore. As I posted earlier, it's fucking terrible.
So, who do I believe? Critics (~90 metascore), or the folks here? Like 8 out of 10 people here seem to really really hate this game.
A bit over 3. Literally cannot take any more. Sorry.
This isn't Gundam. I'm guessing she's finished. She got the refrigerator treatment except less gruesome to develop the main character. She was too strong and confident to last long. She would have made Roland useless.Yup, if you don't see a character die in a JRPG, it's safe to assume they are still alive. Hell, even if you do see them die, they may come back!
That's still an opinion, just like mine is. I've been playing JRPGs for 25 years and I think I'd put it in the "good, not great" or "above average" category based on my time so far. It as things I really love about it and one thing (plot development) that I think is average.
How far are you into the game? I'll say stick with it until you reach the coastal town. If you still hate it by then, yeah, better let it go and play other game.
Story is very simple, it's like reading a children story. Things happen just because, no complex motive or deepest lore. Not a big deal for me.
Yikes....looks like I'll wait for a deep sale. Too bad, I generally like L5 games.
I wouldn't assume that, especially based on the dialogue Roland and Evan have about her deathThis isn't Gundam. I'm guessing she's finished. I think this suffers from the same thing FFXV did but to a much lesser extent. It's a game that was highly anticipated but mostly mysterious up until release and it ended up not being exactly what most expected for certain reasons. Scenarios like this tend to always make people not like the end product, but that doesn't mean it's as bad as some people say. This game has problems, but no jrpg is perfect. That's fair enough and you're right. I'm just annoyed as I was really looking forward to the game and I stumped up the full price. I also cannot fathom how the likes of Easy Allies can give this 95%.
Lol this only comes up on every page in this OT.
In summary the game is a tad on the easy side.
People loved XB2 yet that game was easy as hell. Just spam light combos over and over and you win. At least this game offers a bit more nuance to the combat.
I love both games though. Easy combat doesn't have to be a negative.

This is bullshit. I have been a JRPG fan for over 20 years, playing most of them released since then (though less and less over time to be honest as I refuse to play 1000 year old dragon games, and those seem to be the majority released these days). This game is fucking awful and among the worst JRPGs I've ever played.
This made me LOL. Good show sir.
I lost a tenner on it, so I effectively got AC Origins for £43, meh, I'll live.Yea okay, I'm trading this in. What a waste of money.
4.5 hours in and I can't force myself to play anymore. Didn't even unlocked the kingdom building but I don't care about it.
JRPGs are rarely incredibly hard or anything, I agree, but NNK2 is definitely on a whole new level. I'm on PC and used a cheat table to make enemies take half damage and deal 4x damage and now it's starting to feel like your typical JRPG.

I loved XC2, and Ni no Kuni 2 seems exactly a game with the opposite values to me.
While XC2 had poor IQ and some awful character design, NNK2 has good IQ and designs but big changes between graphical style during some sections.
While XC2 combat was deep and well thought, NNK2 is easy and simple, and it doesn't feel like a good action game, it feels limited and cluncky at times.
The OST from XC2 was a wonder, but the first 5 hours of NNK2 only have the main theme from the first game and some boring tunes.
And about the story, XC2 has anime tropes and some stupid moments, but from the beginning I was absorted in the world , characters and epic moments. NNK2 story feels simplistic and childish, with no impact and with big inconsistent moments (5 hours into the game).
I feel like NNK2 is a charming game, and the artstyle is more appealing, but the first 5 hours feel really worse than the first 5 hours of XC2.
Just read through some of this thread and I'm amazed, wasn't expecting this reaction at all on here. I'm a big JRPG fan and I'm fuckin' loving this game. Did the first one get such a mixed reception?
I loved the first one as well, the voice acting 'situation' doesn't bother me tbh, maybe the only thing I'd say is I preferred the world map in the first one.Kind of by the end of the game, but not right from the start like this,
I found XC2 far better than the first trailers or some reviews showed, I loved all the characters and enjoyed a lot the combat system and story. But I adored XC2, even more so than the darker original, so maybe it'll be the same here if I buy it.

Worrying. My copy turned up today and our tastes seem to be pretty well aligned. Going to give it a go after work.Yeah, I'm a few hours in and I'm close to getting rid. I really hate the chibi style open world and the combat is just way too easy. Add in the annoying loading screens (victory screen etc) and it's incredibly tedious to play.
I'll give it another chance later on tonight, but so far I'm not really impressed.
Xbc2?This OT is kinda bumping me out lol. I never buy games full price I hope I end up I liking it more then what seems to be the general opinion here. I've only played sub 2 hours so far, the beginning felt kinda rushed but I'm assuming they want to throw the player in the king stuff as soon as possible, the combat has definitely been way to easy but feels surprisingly good. Hope it doesn't disappoint me like XBC2.
